LEAVE THE KID ALONE - HES GOOD I don't care if he's playing by ear, sight-reading or faking it .... he's practising... I can't believe what people will argue about... no wonder the state the world is in... its sounds good is all I know.. and I wish I would have been this good as a kid
If you have played it through several times before, it is not sight reading anymore. Except maybe when that was several years ago and you lost memory of the notes, fingerings etc.
If playing with a score always is sightreading, like you say, I've never done anything else in my life. I've played harpsichord for over 15 years now and I NEVER play anything by heart. But I do know the score, I know the music, the melody, the harmony, the fingerings. It is not sight reading.
Apologies to all regarding the past "sight reading" mistake in the description. My father used to handle my account; he used to consider "sight reading" as playing the piece with the sheet music after having gone through a long period of time not having practiced the piece, i.e., not being familiar with the piece anymore. It is now 4 years later, but having stumbled across this video again, I thought it best to clear up my mistake. Sorry for the confusion...!!
Shaky not sure have I commented here before but no need to look at your feet and I think many people mean sight reading here because you don't know the piece well enough to truly perform it!
I just thought I'd let you know: some of the critical comments seem to focus on the phrase "sight reading." The definition of sight reading is "...the reading and performing of a piece of written music, specifically when the performer has not seen it before." Since you have memorized portions of the piece, it's clearly not your first time seeing the music, and that's where the confusion might come from. It might be helpful to edit your description.
Bravo young man - BRAVO!! Don't let the naysayers get to you. To hell with them! I was a child prodigy at the age of two - on the piano; the BEST instrument to begin your journey to the organ. Keep it up, you're on your way.
As an organist who's been "organing' for 50 years, I must say i'm suitably impressed by your performance. Keep up the good work. it will be great to see you perform in about 20 years!
This boy is so fantastic! I can't up to his standard!!!!!!!! As an organist for a year in Wesley church and have not attended any organ classes, I will get scared if he is playing it in my church.
When I was a boy, I played barroque music at my piano! Actually I prefer my Harpsichord, that is better suited for this kind of music. THERE´S IS NO CRIME in playing this music at Eletronic Organs, Pianos, or Synthesizers! I only suggest, that you have to learn barroque phrasing and articulation! Since you are a boy too, I think your playing is a TRIBUTE and HONOUR to the memory of the German Master, G.F.Haendel. Go ahead, and study barroque performance! Congratulations!
Don't worry about what some of these people think. I am sure most of them are talented organists, but I can bet dollars to doughnuts that very few of them showed your talent or skill at such an early age. You must have been under 10 at the time of this taping. I'd have given almost anything to have the ability you had at the same stage of my life. I played for church by age 12, but I was not playing the literature that you were. Please don't think about anything else but a future in music!
what he means is that he was sightreading after not having played the piece for a long while. no need to be rude about it. sightread or not, still excellent.
@HeinzNetwork To be honest lets not get picky about whether it was sight reading or not. The fact is that it was played pretty well and excptional for such a young age
You must admit though, pianorgano, that to most people's understanding, "sight reading" means usually the first or second time of playing and reading the score... It isn't usual for people "sight reading" a piece certainly for the first time, to be able to play passages without looking at the score?!
Certainly you were practising and perhaps at an early stage of learning the piece?!
I should love to hear the piece played by you again now though?
Keep practicing! Nice spirit in the music. It is curious, however, that you spend a lot of time not looking at the music. Not an ordinary way to sight-read...
i played this exact same song on the flute, the whole sonata was called sonata no. 4 in F major. this was the "gigue" movement of it in my version... just for clarification, is it orgonally for organ?
Well if you have ever played a real organ, the keys are a bit harder to push down. He makes it look like it's nothing, with the slightest push of a finger. Genius my friend. I will remember your name.
beautifull!

Sight reading is not playing while looking at the music, it is playing something for the first time.

For those rude enough to just criticise, I would be more than interested to receive details of your postings to compare your ability.

this is obviously not sight reading - its how your posture
is that gives it away - making excuses won't work....
nevertheless, quite a good effort - footwork needs a little
work nevertheless quite good - keep it up

Why are you playing pedal? there is no pedal in an Handel Organ concerto.
johnrmiii 3 years ago
Handel Organ Concertos are also not played by organ alone. He's using the pedals for the parts normally not played by organ. This is a transcription.
