My understanding is that in 1979, the FIA would make a small rule change to allow rally cars to have 4WD, starting in 1980. So what you're seeing here is the last of the the "traditional" 2WD era, the "pre-quattro" days. Rallying was about to get REALLY crazy.

im not a pro driver but why haven't these guys figured out that less throttle will actually get them going quicker than floating the valves on ice?. im sure theirs a reason but it doesn't make sence. mk1 escorts rule! quad carbs sound tite.

2wd guys in those days were trying to get the car sideways, becouse they weren't sure of the road up ahead. pacenotes were a new thing in rallying and some rallies didn't allow it.
