Great stuff from a total master of the guitar. I like how he just plays and chuckles to himself and makes witty comments, his playing is genius and he is a joy to listen to.
I like when he goes "that's the Benson theory of guitar, I guess," and then he cracks up: ha, ha, ha. It's like he's laughing at the fact he's just such a bad ass. I think if I played like that I'd be laughing all the time too. He is a monster guitar player.
George must be some Zen master kinda teacher, cause he surely doesn't elucidate anything in the Western sense of teaching. Definitely not instructive in that sense, but I am not sure if this is intended to be inspiring or just plain intimidating?
@LongTallYamlaJay The sense I get not just from this video but stuff I saw Bill Evans talk about is that you have to figure out a lot of stuff for yourself. My problem is that I learned classical guitar and there everything is scripted for you. On the other hand pop and rock doesn't delve too much into heavy harmony. So jazz really falls somewhere in the middle. It's really heavy shit to thoroughly understand. It takes a lot of playing to understand the language of jazz..
he is genius, the singing just blew me a way....Im in tears just way too cool! Dear Lord what does it takes to get to this level. Charlie Parker used to practise for 11 hrs ..on a guitar- is that humanly possible without hurting ur fingers?
mh..itd be interesting (even if quite ABSURD to say teh least) seein Benson playin all of his stuff he's showin in this video , on a MICROTONAL FRETTED GUITAR! itd be pretty enthralling seein how he would manage this!
His fingers seem so free and precise on the frets, it's unbelievable. I don't think you can teach that, can it be learnt with practice or is it something inbred?
The only hope I have for injesting this is to watch it before I go to bed and hope that my subconscious, God, and some damned holy luck will put one fraction of it into my skillset. Jesus. This is a gift in motion, in the flesh.
Thank you George I just felt like I spent a whole evening with you in your home. Thank you for that.

This guy would be the best guitar teacher. I probably wouldn't even have to open my guitar case, just listen to him play and sing.
