I really like this Ka Bar. I can't find it anywhere. I like this size 8" blade. Places I looked they had 12" blade. Can anyone tell me where to look. Thanks
Could have saved a LOT of effort with that tree if you used the correct part of the blade for chopping. You were striking to far up toward the handle. That is a great looking and performing knife though. Looking on line for one right now because here in germany they are scarce and expensive.
@1969jmac Not exactly, he used the correct technique for chopping down a tree like this. Go on my channel and look for my video with me chopping down a tree with my ka-bar
@GeneralFryeman Yes but unless you want to go to jail for murder I'd try to use it for camping usage or just put it on top of the fire place as an antique. Have a nice day.
i just ordered the full sized serrated black ka bar knife with the leather sheath, already have a ka bar cutlass machete which i love, punches way above its weight, holds its edge for ages, comfy grip and good balance, from what i've seen of the ka bar brand so far they are an excellent choice
The cutco company in Olean, New York makes the Ka Bar. An outstanding valued knife. They are one of the few who cryogenicly freeze the steel to make the atomical structure of the steel harder. They were recently seen on the History Channel.
once upon a time, i sharpened my kabar to where it would shave hair off ur arm, just to test how sharp it could get. Then i wanted to see its edge retention. I ended up batoning 3 or 4 good size logs into kinneling size peices. at the end of the day, it still knocked hair off my arm
@Zaharkl their is actually a huge difference. nylon is like a woven threaded sheath, while kydex is more of a hard plastic. kydex is always better since its safer. you want a sheath that wont rip if you fall and the knife goes into it. it could cause serious harm
@kman20022 This is not a fighting knife just cause ka-bar is a company who makes fighting knives dosent mean that all knives they make are for that purpose. And for your information ka-bar also makes kitchen knives are you going to go to war with a kitchen knife and say that it is a fighting knife? I don't think you will!
I gotta a K-bar Kukri machete and liked it so much I threw it behind the back seat of my Toyota Pickup in case I gotta survive a while. That thing gave me the confidence i could fell a younger tree with it. Chopaholic. I thought it a great buy for the money.
i personally think the kabar is the most known and most used knife i love it one my buddys gave me one for my birth day at first i didnt pay attention to it but as soon as i tested it in the woods its a 10/10
I love all your videos. I love all your selection and items you have. Its been very helpful. But I do not know why you need a knife to chop down the tree when you have a saw ? (Gerber saw)
Four rotating chops around the circumference of the trunk with a hatchet would have allowed you to push that tree over with much less energy expended. Splitting wood with a hatchet is also more efficient than batoning.
@pkdiddy as you can see, this is a ka-bar demonstration..not a hatchet demonstration. so gtfo.....hatchets are made for more ballistic use. ka-bars are combative knives, which also have a good edge for things like batoning
I just looked this knife up on Ka-bar's website and they actually consider it a machete. That is if what you're using in this video is what the Ka-bar website calls the cutlass machete
I want to hear it direct from one of these jungle knives enthusiasts: What exactly is the supposed advantage of a knife like the one in this video over a similarly sized hatchet? You could not comfortably dress game or do detailed whittling with a knife like this, so it basically fills the same niche as a hatchet, except that a hatchet of the same weight would be a far more efficient chopper, inherently sturdier, better balanced for belt carry, and more ergonomic for hewing type jobs.
It is still going strong! I can recommend it now more than ever because it has continued to perform with no problem. The only wear is the black epoxy coating has worn off much of the bade. That is to be expected from a work blade though. Thanks for your interest.
I haveth same knife and it batons wood great, it retains the sharpness well and sharpens nice and easy too, the only thing I have a problem with is the crappy sheath they supply with it, do they make a better sheath? if so where do I find it.
Also as a back up knife I use the SOG seal pup elite with kydex sheath. great vid
are you kidding me? a folding saw weighs almost nothing compared to that big heavy knife. My choice tools would be a Froat Mora, a Gerber (or better brand) folding saw, and my Leatherman Wave multi-tool. The smaller knife would be better suited for more meticulous tasks than a larger knife. I mean I aint Rambo for crying out loud.LOL But hey its just all in personal preferance right?
Once again great vid. I was looking at them today. Most machetes are too heavy and if you look at them the handles are just cheap rivets...DANGEROUS! I wanted something to cut brush and firewood. You made my mind up! Who usually films for you? The wife? Does she have to put up with that vaccum packer too? LOL
LOL, actually this Ka Bar video is the only video on my channel that I didn't make alone! I usually vacuum while she is away too lol. If you go with the Ka Bar, you won't regret it.
I am also a USMC Ka Bar fan, if you like that knife, this one will also feel very comfortable and familiar in your hand. It's a great knife for the money.
Nice and effective knife; it doesn't seem like much of an effort to cut a dead tree of that size down. Ka-Bar is obviously a great manufacturer, I have only read and heard good things about their knives.
The size looks pretty good, like a good balance between performance / cutting power and compactness / weight. At least that's how it appears to me.
Well said! I completely agree with your assessment. These are the qualities that make this knife a great choice for field use. Thanks for watching and for commenting.
Yes, it always does on these types of knives if you use it in this way. Fortunately, it doesn't effect the functionality of the blade though. Thanks for commenting!
Wow man you made that look easy as pie. That knife is really cool. I'm pretty new to this stuff but I'm building my own kit and I could use a knife like that one. If you don't mind could you tell me where to get one and about how much it would cost. Killer video, 5 stars.
The knife I used in this video is a real bargain from cheaper than dirt. It cost $40.00 with the sheath! I think it is a great knife for the money, if you get it you will not be disappointed. Also, they have several other models of the Ka Bar bowie knife in the same price range. You may want to look at those as well. If you do order, let me know what you choose... Take Care.
I like the idea of the knife being a multi purpose tool I think they do a good job on splitting wood since you have more control than axe But I think I will stick with the saw for cutting down and sizing just imo great video again
dude, personaly im a fan of the axe when it comes to choping dead standing wood, but i have the cold steel k-bar and like it alot...also i was wondering what u would sugest as a backup nife... thanks
Thanks for watching and commenting. Actually, I am a fan of the axe too. But, I use an axe at home where I don't have to carry it. I know different people have different approaches when it comes to packing for the field, but for me, I like carrying this type of knife because it can do such a wide array of work chores. I feel like I (me personally), am more flexible w/ a survival knife than an axe. If the axe is better for you, by all means you should use it. as for the backup knife.....
This is a tough question for me, b/c it all depends on what the backup is for. For me, I often carry a USMC Ka Bar which is slightly lighter than the camp knife but can in a pinch do the same duties. I also carry a Glock knife in the field sometimes as well. (see my vid on this if you're interested) I also carry a folding knife in my kit at all times for smaller chores also. I hope this helps. By the way, what Axe do you use? I like the FISKERS brand axes when splitting firewood! Thanks!
i like Fiskers also. I am also a fan of the gerber camp axe and the cold steel rifleman hawk blade. the only thing about the gerber is that it is on the expensive side. the cold steel is cheaper and to me it has the same cutting power.
Thanks for sharing! I have looked at the Gerber before and it reminded me of the Fiskers but like you said, more expensive. I'll have to look into the Cold steel, I don't know if I have seen that one before. Thanks for the info. Take Care!
Is that just a regular Ka-bar or not? If not, what is the exact name of that knife? I have a USMC Ka-bar...excellent knife. I'm also looking for gloves to wear in the woods. Would you recommend yours? If so, what are they called and where would I get them?
It is the Camp Knife Model. It has a 8" Bolo Blade. It is made to the same specifications as the USMC knife but has a bit more length and girth for chopping. I also have the USMC Ka Bar which I also love but for different work. The gloves that I wore in this video were Wells Lamont leather palm work gloves w/ polyester/spandex backing. They are Olive Drab in color. I would recommend these as good quality work gloves. RN#32198 check Lowes. Good Luck, Take Care.
Yes. It's design is the same as the USMC Ka Bar except for the blade itself. The handle, pommel and grip (Kraton G rubber rings) are just like many of the newer USMC style Ka Bar knives. Thanks for watching
Thanks for your kind comment! This camp knife is available through cheaper Than Dirt for $39.97! I think it's a great deal. I believe it is a closeout special so if your interested, don't wait. If I understand correctly, Ka Bar has a newer version of this knife hence the closeout. Also, you can see my video "New gear from CTD" for more on info on this knife. Thanks for your interest!
Ka-Bar is top of the line to me! Im kinda biased on this... my Father carried a Ka-Bar on our camping trips and I carried one while in the USMC, and still carry one when I go into the woods. Solid workhorse I have to agree! Great video.
as usual a very nice useful video. thx for sharing man. I hope that u will make a field test for the Glock knife and make a comparison between the Glock knife and Ka Bar maybe with other knifes too and tell us what is the conclusion that u find as you are an experienced man in this field thx in advance.
Thanks for your your kind comments and for the suggestion. As soon as I have the opportunity, I will get back in the field to film more. Thanks for watching.
Looks like it will definately do the job. My K-bar Heavy bowie knife from CTD should be here Wednesday. I have seen nutnfancy using it batoning wood in camp and it does a great job too.
FYI...that is the KA-BAR Machete.

Ka-Bar is top of the line to me! Im kinda biased on this... my Father carried a Ka-Bar on our camping trips and I carried one while in the USMC, and still carry one when I go into the woods. Solid workhorse I have to agree! Great video.

Thanks NCHiker! The Ka Bar is nostalgic! I also keep the USMC issue knife. Time tested and proven!

Looks like it will definately do the job. My K-bar Heavy bowie knife from CTD should be here Wednesday. I have seen nutnfancy using it batoning wood in camp and it does a great job too.
