first there was the BEEEEEEEEEEEP......BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP....BEEEEEEEEEEEP...BEEEEEEEEEP and then THE ANNOYING EMERGENCY ALERT SYSTEM (REMINDS ME OF ELEMENTARY SCHOOL FIRE DRILLS!!!)
I like the graphic on top. If more stations used something like that - unobtrusive, yet descriptive - it would be a great improvement from the tiny maps.
What happened at 1:12? Is that the tornado touching down? (the cable went out for a second as it touched down in Huntsville, Alabama according to some other videos)
In light of the events of April 3, 1974 which are still fresh in so many peoples' minds, I would imagine the people of Louisville take tornado safety very seriously. Eerie to hear him mention Brandenburg... that town of course was virtually wiped out in the '74 storm. Did anything come of this touchdown here?
Man the RADAR was FAR inferior to what we have right now. The signal gets washed out pretty quickly on the Doppler RADAR they are using, hence the weaker returns on the storm producing a possible tornado up in Jefferson County, IN.
i remember in the 90s KATV Channel 7 (ABC station of Little Rock, Arkansas) did a simalur beeping noise to bring storm warnings only they used a ticker tape during the regular broadcast and there would be a map of Arkansas on the bottom screen of all the counties that had warnings.
When they interuptted regular programming there will be a title screen that said: 'Channel 7 News Weather Advisory' followed by a male announcer with a deep voice saying 'This is a channel 7 news weather advisory.'
I remember calling in the report from Galena where I was at the time at the fire station there. We had several funnels swirling around in the sky. Pretty wild that day.
Describe the funnel sightings- was it one after another, or was there several swirling around in the same wall cloud??

This was on the day I was born. That's pretty interesting that a tornado outbreak happened that same day.
