Im a real big horror fan and i HATE Remakes like the nightmare on elm street Halloween and friday the 13th, But i gotta say i loved the TEXAS CHAINSAW remakes Sheriff Hoyt alone made the film worth seeing!

Aw come on, I really liked the remake. I like older horror movies because of their eerie feel. The original definitely has that. Cut to 2003, obviously the remake isn't going to be as scary. But as far as horror remakes go this was actually pretty good. It had suspense, good acting, and an upped dosage of gore which I think works perfectly since this is a movie about a maniac with a CHAINSAW who makes masks out of faces of his victims. Another good horror remake is Mother's Day (2010), try it.

I think the original is far more interesting and scary than the remake. Sure, the remake's actor's are pretty good. But The sheriff and the hitchhiker were WAAAAY better in the original.

i liked both of them. the original has that creepy gritty isolation feeling to it. and the remake gives you a little better sense of the grittiness and psychopathic nature of leatherfaces family. especially his uncle, which is a really crazy guy . R. Lee Ermy did a good job, cuz i mean he was a real drill seargent in the Vietnam war so hes got that imtimidation feel to him

looking at the original its kind of like the blair witch project of its time, the way they shot the movie was like looking at footage of real events and none of the actors were stars so its kind of like if someone were to remake blair witch with money and stars it may not seem as scary so its understandable why ppl didnt like the remake but i have to say platnum dunes really did manage to make there version intense, creative, well acted & atmospheric, i think both films have there strong points.

What really made the original so good: The gritty, almost realistic feel of it. The actors no one has ever seen or heard of? They merely made it worlds better, because you didn't find yourself staring at a celeb you know. Less gore, leaving more to the imagination. Gore doesn't make scary. The remake has NO atmosphere, no real creativity, and just a piss poor group of actors to boot.

The remake is much better IMO. The original looked very low budget and I could not take Leatherface seriously. Just the way he looked, especially the mask ,was borderline ridiculous. Definitely not scary. In the remake it's creepy as hell just when you see the mask,much less when he kills someone. I do have respect for the original for introducing a interesting story and character but as a film in general I'm not a big fan of it.

Honestly I prefer the remake.The forest chase scene in the original got kinda annoying with the CONSTANT loud chainsaw and the woman screaming.And I liked the characters more in the remake.Thats just me, and I think TCM is one of the better slasher remakes out there, certainty better than F13.

How can you even compare classic horror with a third rate, straight to video slasher film that looked like it was filmed on someones credit card in the 80's? Sure, the original was low budget as well, but all the better for it mad it more creepy and disturbing. Wendy O. Williams would have walked out on the remake. Do they have a remastered version of the original?

The remake was terrible, had no subtlety at all, mainly because it was trying to be loud and in your face and had that irritating fast-editing cuts that Michael Bay has become famous for, he didn't even direct the damn thing as well.

The original is the best because most of the violence is implied, I love the documentary-style way they shot it and there's a real atmosphere to it.

My advice, stay away from any remakes done by Platinum Dunes (Bay's production company), they're a complete joke.
