  • Same song as MNF

  • i reckon mac ran nearer to 8.9 than 10.9....amazing.

  • 1980s adidas on parade here

  • "Oh! Its a damn bloody shame that!! (Keith Fielding)

It may seem funny now but at the time it was a huge blow.

  • Sportsmen were real men back then. Not like the over-paid prissy nancies now with their low-carb, macro-biotic diets and what-not. I can just imagine David Hemery polishing off steak and chips for lunch, running a marathon before getting home on Saturday afternoon to repair something in a shed.

  • Theme!

  • great bit of music written by Johnny Pearson

  • straight after the "friday big shop" id be layed in front of the telly waiting in anticipation for this music. Big tin of shandy bass and a packet of hula hoops, life was much simpler back then.

  • How on earth did Malcolm MacDonald manage to compete, his knee had gone by then?

  • won by the great Keith Fielding

  • @welshnick300365 Pride of Marple!

  • This is all being repeated on ESPN classic at the moment.

  • Amazing tune

  • Just heard that ABC is bringing this show back. Never heard of it till now and looked this video up. Terrell Owens will be on the new version with some hot Model.

  • Fantastics look and look again never boring, anyone have more video brian jack pls let me see am got dvd from brian jack open and watch it too many time them no good now didn't work!!

  • Excellent posting.

It's a pity you couldn't have it back on TV today. Can you imagine Fergie allowing Ronaldo to fall off his bike a la Keegan?

I was expecting this vid to be accompanied by loads of comments from yanks saying "Dude, that's the NFL theme music" and I was ready to have a pop at 'em. But it's not. so I can't. Boo. Never mind and thanks again for an excellent post.

  • Best theme of all times

  • Zawtowers, this is absolute gold. Fantastic.

I remember the chin up event and there was an Irish guy who set records at it. There was a Canadian, with a moustache, who held the old record, who counted the chin ups. I'd love to see a clip. Chin ups are very much back in fashion and I'd like to see just how good they used to be.

    Thanks for reviving the memories!

  • the Canadian chin up specialist was Brian Bub

  • I think you meant Brian Budd, but yes he was World Champion for three consecutive years between 1978 and 1980.

  • thats the chap

  • ZAWTOWERS!!!!! You have your own website. How am I supposed to compete with that! What I will say though is that I share your love of a good sports theme. My dad always watched the sports programmes and listening to the themes from Sportsnight and Athletics from Crystal Palace and showjumping and darts etc takes me straight back to my childhood. Respect sir. You know more than me. I also hope you love TVCream as much as I do. lol

  • You've got some good videos there Mr Zaw. Just had a look, but I can't honestly remember Keith Fielding. lol. My memory.....

  • Love this theme tune. Takes me right back. King Kev was great at those squatty up and down elbow things on the parallel bars (pissing myself laughing at him crying cos he scratched his leg falling off a bike) although NO-ONE was as good as Brian Jacks. What a man!. lol

  • Actually in the Challenge of the Champions he was soundly beaten by Keith Fielding (1st) and Lynn Davies (2nd)

  • Well I stand corrected Mr Zaw. But I have to say I can't remember any Keith Fielding.

  • See my video of the 1981 finals...

  • anyone know where I can get these events on DVD - not the best of that I know you can buy ?

  • They're not available on DVD - keep your eye on ESPN Classic though as they often get repeated there.

  • He went to my school KEFW in Birmingham.

  • well keith fielding may be your PE teacher but hes my step dad

  • What wonderful memories. BBC, please release the theme music on CD, I'm sure it would make the top 10!

  • You can actually buy the theme tune to this and others on a compilation CD called "The Great Sporting Experience" which also has the theme tunes to Grandstand, Ski Sunday, Test Match Cricket, Snooker etc. Well worth it.

  • Hi there,

I got the CD you mentioned and it is absolutely brilliant. All the songs bring back wonderful memories but the Superstars theme is the best. Thanks alot. Much appreciated.

  • Thanks very much :)

  • Thank you. Something to help me explain to Americans where that 'Monday Night Football' theme really belongs.

  • They said MacDonald ran 10.9 on this video. Lots of sources quote him as having ran 10.4 (which would have gained him a place on the 4*100 relay team for the '76 Games). Anyone know what the time was? and was it electronic?

  • Superb - got any more?

  • Check my channel - there is more Superstars stuff there. I'll see what I can do to put more up.

  • keith fielding is my pe teacher ;)

  • 'Mr Fielding' - as we knew him then, was my brother's teacher at Marple Hall over 20 years ago! Used to love this programme - Channel five are resurrecting it - it may not be as good but at least they kept the theme tune

  • YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEES ! Fantastic Stuff - thanks for posting this - terrific memories from my youth. Top sports people from a vastly different Era - I wonder how much appearence money would be required now ??!!! Of course the unforgetable Superstars Theme Tune
