What about the background color behind the text? One thing I don't like about the Kindle DX is that the background was (disappointingly) this sort of drab, almost greenish grey. It makes reading kind of unpleasant and just plain hard to read in low light. When compared to a normal book, the Kindle's background is very noticeably darker and more drab. Does the Nook have a brighter background than the Kindle DX?
I know what you meant when you said "The nook has a 1 month battery life vs the nook's reported 10 day battery life" but you might want to add an annotation anyways.
@AVENGEDxGANGSATA Kindles don't show up on the Barnes and Noble website. Kindle is for Amazon. The Nook is for Barnes and Noble. To answer your question on what e-reader it is, the Kindle is the Kindle Keyboard DX.
hahaha he meant the kindle has a battery life of up to a month!! I LOVE my kindle soooo much!! even if it isnt touch screen or colored.....it's amazing!!
I had a kindle, and I didn't really like it. I gave it to NY mom and she loves it. I just messed around with one of my friends nook, and I like it a lot better. Prolly getting one soon.

I like how you're not biased, and how you are saying how each one is the same yet very different. We have a Kindle, and we haven't had trouble finding titles. Plus, I'd need a longer batter life at school, and I could care less about the space. I would never a whole lot of books on the Kindle at a time. I do like the Nook's LCD display and touch screen, but that means it will drain faster. This would be good for finding titles, but bad for battery life. I like the customization too.
Im getting a nook in school. I'm going to a brand new high school, this is the first year it is open. They wanted us to test how responsible we are with them we het them for the last three and a half months of school. We are the first and only school in lausd to try it and if we are good with them they might just put it in all the schools.
you made a mistake in your video at 2:20. You say "Finally the nook has a longer battery life of up to a month vs. the nook's reported 10 day battery life."
As a Ebook Publisher. The KINDLE is WAYYYY Better!!! Nook gives special software to big publishers and gives preference to were they are placed in searches. Children books are impossible to do set up on Nook. And Do we really need to see "Curious George " in the top of the search? Big Publishers get preference over new authors. Thats why they suck. Can some one please tell Barnes and Nobel There is a reason you and Borders went out off business. old farts ..Smh
with kindle!! its thinner, can last longer and specified in reading more. we've mp3 and craps to listen music, play games etc. ereader is fr readin books and kindle is the best choice!! of course its colourless, but we're not kids that we need coloured books!!! :D
@mOsTrAnDoMcHiCk90 Books, especially new books are expensive. They are a lot cheaper to buy on your Nook or Kindle, plus there is a selection of free books to get.The public library is helpful, but they don't always have what you're looking for and there's the chance it could be checked out. The Nook and Kindle hold a crapload of books, not to mention magazines and newspapers so you can read what you want, plus you can listen to music. It's like holding your personal library in your hand.
endless reasons why I have the Nook.Library,Epub,Battery,I had it a year without a single Glitch, and now had to grab the nook touch to add to my Nook Family.I just prefer the nook, and dislike having to be stuck with ONE store.Jmho..to each its own. However,Nice review, but tell us which YOU prefer.LOL..Kindle seems nifty but the reasons I stated is why I stay with Nook.
Thank you!!! helped A TON!!! just a question, hope you can answer, Would I be able to use the nook if I buy the color nook wifi and 3G thing.. in mexico and europe? Would be traveling a lot there and I want to read and buy books whenever I am. thanks
@pbhh9125 i have a nook, and i live in europe. i have never had any problems downloading books or anything here. it works perfectly(: the only thing, is the wall charger fits american electrical systems, so i charge mine using my laptop. hope this helps! (:
Thanks for the review. Thorough. I also appreciate that because of the differences that may appeal to preference and don't necessarily impact usability, you didn't tell anyone which one to buy. Just the facts... good review.
@CederDUDE22 Some things require your own decision. If you want someone to tell you what you like better instead of giving you the facts, you must be a Fox News watcher. Sorry, couldn't resist. In all seriousness, if battery life is more important to you, get the kindle. If putting a picture of your puppy on the front page or attaching a pretty colored case is more important to you, get the nook. The prices are too similar to compare
Just a piece of advice. Some may argue that the kindles lighter weight is great but as for me when I hold the nook, I like the extra weight simply because it actually feels like you are holding a book! The kindle just did not feel right in my hands. Although I think either choice a person could not go wrong with.
Really?? I watched your entire review to only hear you say "its a toss up for me"!??
Please don't do reviews if you cannot even help your viewers decide, if we wanted to hear that we'd be happy with either one, we would NOT be watching review videos about these e-readers.
@Utuubie He did help us decide by comparing the two. He gave thorough, well-delivered information on both devices. Nothing is taken away from the review simply because his preferred device is not named. I, personally, found the review to be exactly what I was looking for: a comprehensive review of the both eBooks.
My wife and I both have Nooks and love them. The big thing is the ePub format, which most libraries offer books in... The Kindle can't read ePub files and you're not going to be able to convert a DRM enabled ePub file into the Kindle's proprietary .mobi format either. The Kindle does have a longer battery life, mainly because of the Nook's color touch-screen, but you have to send it in when it comes time to replace it. We can just swing by B&N, get a new battery for $30, and pop it in.
If you want more than just an eBook reader but less than an iPad, check the Nook Color (NC). It has been updated to the Android 2.2 operating system, which now allows it to install "apps" from the Nook Color application library that B&N is starting to grow. The NC has a real web browser, collects your email and notifies you when new messages arrive, plays mp4 and flv (Flash) videos, and still is a great eBook reader. It has plenty of memory for books, pictures, video, etc, and a microSD slot.
The kindle is extremely durable! I have dropped it twice both times from about 5 feet in the air onto concrete and it still looks brand new after I got it 4 months ago!
Thanks for the reviews, Kipkay, I really appreciate it! All this info will help me make my decision, although I still think I might end up flipping a coin! ; ) Thanks again!
Amazon releases cheaper ad-supported Kindle. For details, go to Facebook and search "ereader" to access the ereader community page for the latest news and offers.
The nook sucks it crashes all the time after I bought it but my kindle is working great it is so much easier to use and it's a lot cheaper I love the kindle!!!!
I own a nook myself. one of the key points missed here (not a big deal, just pointing it out) is that the nook supports the EPUB format, where the Kindle doesn't without converting to another format such as MOBI.
honestly, customization on a device like this means jack shit to me. it's not like its my iphone, its a fucking book reader. the screen isnt even colored, for god's sake.
the only point the nook gets with me is the clock and battery displaying all the time. but they'll probably fix that on some near update on kindle.
the stupid unnecessary lcd-touch thing on nook explains the lower battery life.
i hate people that get paid to do reviews.. they never want to upset big companies.. so they always say its a "toss up" or something like that unless there are blatant downfalls... they never give their true personal opinions. all they are telling you is the damn bullet points that the product gives you.... i hate stupid reviews
So which one is better to purchase?

i hate people that get paid to do reviews.. they never want to upset big companies.. so they always say its a "toss up" or something like that unless there are blatant downfalls... they never give their true personal opinions. all they are telling you is the damn bullet points that the product gives you.... i hate stupid reviews

@gutrenchladd valid point
but they really wanna leave it to the people to decide
with economy 1 less person will never have an impact but 100 people will have an impact
and this is the reviewing of economy
but they have to stop doing toss ups
