What about the background color behind the text? One thing I don't like about the Kindle DX is that the background was (disappointingly) this sort of drab, almost greenish grey. It makes reading kind of unpleasant and just plain hard to read in low light. When compared to a normal book, the Kindle's background is very noticeably darker and more drab. Does the Nook have a brighter background than the Kindle DX?

@AVENGEDxGANGSATA Kindles don't show up on the Barnes and Noble website. Kindle is for Amazon. The Nook is for Barnes and Noble. To answer your question on what e-reader it is, the Kindle is the Kindle Keyboard DX.

I like how you're not biased, and how you are saying how each one is the same yet very different. We have a Kindle, and we haven't had trouble finding titles. Plus, I'd need a longer batter life at school, and I could care less about the space. I would never a whole lot of books on the Kindle at a time. I do like the Nook's LCD display and touch screen, but that means it will drain faster. This would be good for finding titles, but bad for battery life. I like the customization too.

As a Ebook Publisher. The KINDLE is WAYYYY Better!!! Nook gives special software to big publishers and gives preference to were they are placed in searches. Children books are impossible to do set up on Nook. And Do we really need to see "Curious George " in the top of the search? Big Publishers get preference over new authors. Thats why they suck. They are a lot cheaper to buy on your Nook or Kindle, plus there is a selection of free books to get.The public library is helpful, but they don't always have what you're looking for and there's the chance it could be checked out. The Nook and Kindle hold a crapload of books, not to mention magazines and newspapers so you can read what you want, plus you can listen to music. It's like holding your personal library in your hand.

In all seriousness, if battery life is more important to you, get the kindle. If putting a picture of your puppy on the front page or attaching a pretty colored case is more important to you, get the nook. The prices are too similar to compare

Just a piece of advice. Some may argue that the kindles lighter weight is great but as for me when I hold the nook, I like the extra weight simply because it actually feels like you are holding a book! The kindle just did not feel right in my hands. Although I think either choice a person could not go wrong with.

My wife and I both have Nooks and love them. The big thing is the ePub format, which most libraries offer books in... The Kindle can't read ePub files and you're not going to be able to convert a DRM enabled ePub file into the Kindle's proprietary .mobi format either. The Kindle does have a longer battery life, mainly because of the Nook's color touch-screen, but you have to send it in when it comes time to replace it. We can just swing by B&N, get a new battery for $30, and pop it in.

If you want more than just an eBook reader but less than an iPad, check the Nook Color (NC). It has been updated to the Android 2.2 operating system, which now allows it to install "apps" from the Nook Color application library that B&N is starting to grow. The NC has a real web browser, collects your email and notifies you when new messages arrive, plays mp4 and flv (Flash) videos, and still is a great eBook reader. It has plenty of memory for books, pictures, video, etc, and a microSD slot.
