I grew up going to the drive in enjoying all these such as the clock and all the food ads and the heavy speakers which hang on your window or door and usually the sound was very scratchy thru these but who cared.
This is a good one the one I remember seeing more than any other. most drive ins would always show the first one over again, but if you have a drivein now adays they dont.
I think this particular one was mentioned in the Broadway Show Grease. In the song ALONE AT A DRIVE IN MOVIE Danny sings "and when the intermission elf moves the clock's hands, while he's eating everything sold at the stand." Unfortunately, the song was changed in the movie.
The Hungry Dwarft was play @ the Circus drive-in theatre on the White Horse Pike, near Hammanton, NJ, in the early sixties. The screen is still there. ..lots of trees!
I'm looking for a clock that had a claymation chef rolling out like a ball. They played that one @ the Atlantic drive-in (south Jersey) around 1969-70, when I started working there
What we need for our drive-in which is still operating in Australia. We would love to love to obtain a 35mm copy of these old intermission promos, if only for the patrons entertainment value.
Yes I remember the countdown clock too and Im glad you posted this one for I remember the final "and now on with the show" which the other ads dont have. thanks for posting .
This was originally a 10 minute "countdown", and was first seen in theaters during the early '50s. Note how many times our on-screen elf wolfs down the same snacks in the complete version. He also makes like Jackie Gleason {"And away we go!"} at the one-minute mark before grabbing the ice cream cone. This was originally shown in black & white, 'torgman'. Great production music!

An hour later, we get an intermission short of him on the john, straining for ten minutes to grunt out all that garbage he ate.

I miss the old drive-ins very much but, you see, they
had to go the way of the dinosaur to make room for the
cool new technologies like DVD disks, Ipods and...
YouTube...where the internet goes to get better!!

So, the elf wolfs down Raisinettes, two candy bars, a soda and an ice cream in a space of five minutes? I'd hate to be his digestive tract!
BTW, was this always on green film?

WAIT! That elf didn't dispose of that wrapper in the proper receptacle!

I don't know what's more disturbing. The animation of an elf munching, or the animator who had to draw this.

I think he enjoyed the end of that 4-minute-to-go candy bar a *little* too much! 8)
THANKS for sharing this!
