I have always admired Hitchens' intellect and formidable powers of debate. However on Bosnia I contend he is wrong. Bosnia is/was/is mixed. Only under the Ottomans could you say this was a 'muslim' state, not even that really. @Timothyk11 I do not know him personally. I'm a fan of his works and once met him at a book signing. Yet, after years of reading and listening to interviews I would say he's often misjudged as being arrogant/pompous, partially because of his rich accent. I don't agree with him on every point, for example he can be too harsh on the individual believer in a faith. (Although I am myself an atheist and think religion is mostly negative.)
I would be interested to know why you think he's "pompous"?

The best country to live in (under these circumstances) would be the Netherlands: It still has the remnants (and policies) of a liberal, sane and tolerant society, yet it (almost) has become a muslim state, due to excessive muslim immigration. The country is terribly nice to muslims (giving subsidies, accepting all the religious nonsense, they have many rights and barely any of the obligations, etc.).

You speak out of sheer ignorance when you single out one religion as opposed to another which has historically shown followers to be excessively violent. Look at the Inquisition, the Reformation and the persecution of Jews by Christians on the ground that the Jews killed Jesus - an absurd suggestion.

Only the Crusades and the Roman Inquisition (headed by the Pope at the time)--- (which gave them Lawyers by the way... something the Secular court system did not do at at least another 300 years) Can be directly tired to church leadership, and thus be a fair criticism. And i dare you to find something unreleasable for that time in history in the historical text of those events, given the threat.

@SaoMir1 christianity actually EVOLVED, and keeps evolving and progressing, very slowly, towards something similar to a civilized society. haven't had crusades for centuries, terrorism in ireland has been stopped. islam only aims towards an islam-dominated world, with nothing left to hate. that's what it means when it calls himself a "religion of peace".

@phezla @SaoMir1 Humanity, in general, has a lot to answer for. Religion exists on it's own for being more irrational that most other branches of tribalism. For this, it deserves no platform in politics. Believe whatever you want if you wish to remain ignorant of essential facts. @vjohn82 my particular brand of mumbo jumbo is that religion per se is ridiculous and laughable, childish, an insult tu human dignity and its intellectual abilities. I think that the need of an imaginary friend and all that goes with it gives a glimpse into how messed up, selfish, arrogant, sick and self-centered human beings are. so... i'm not condoning or justifying christianity, but still think that there is "stupidity" (christianity) and "evil" (islam).

There are Western occupation forces in almost every Country in the Middle-East/Central Asia.. in Bahrain, Qatar, Turkmenistan, Uzkebistan, Afghanistan, permanent Military bases in Iraq, CIA in Iran and Yemen..) - we're occupying their lands (As always) - not the other way around, 'we' the West have kept the Middle-East from enjoying any serious Economic progress (Which usually leads to Social progress) for many Decades now.
We'll find a new Mubarak to keep in power, and a new Saddam.
