  • Come on guys LISTEN! the Jap has more gain more bottom end and more harmonics!

  • Dead Leaves and the Dirty Ground

  • They sound the freakin same, I watching this video through a pair of Pioneer HDJ-1000's and the only real difference is in the second riff but I notice the tone knob on the JP is ever so slightly turned up more than on the TW for the second riff. It would be funny if they were both TW's and this was made as a joke to bring out all the JP version fanboys who would swear the "JP" sounded way better....

  • you need a camera with a better mic

  • Man, you're dreaming, of course there's a difference but if you take two taiwanes pedals, there will be a difference too.

  • Tips for people recording clips of effects pedals:

    1) use a recording device that won't clip / distort - and set levels / gain / trim properly for a clean recording

    2) don't play your guitar two feet away from the recording device, so we hear more pick / string click than actual effect

    3) avoid recording clip in natural reverberant / echo-ey room

  • hahahha thanks I needed a good laugh, .....

  • sounded like a solid state amp.....

  • thumbs up if u heared pretty much no diffrence :L

  • couldnt notice the difference, they both sounded the same. I dont mind the taiwan shit. Great Pedal, Great Price.

  • DS1 is good until 12 hours tone

  • やっぱりDSはいい音するな~

  • Same

  • La distorción está muy alta, no se puede apreciar muy bien el sonido del Boss Japan por lo tanto no puedo criticar al Taiwanes.

The distorcion is so high that I could't apreciate the Japane's Boss sound very well, so in fact I couldn't apreciate the Taiwan's Boss sound neither

However, the Japane's Boss it's better I think

  • How are we supposed to notice differences if the microphone can't even pick them up

  • Depends.. which one has better rice?

  • Eu Gostei Mais do Taiwan,Achei o Som Mais Limpo,Não Falando Mal do Japan,Mais o Taiwan Para mim Ganhou essa disputa.

  • both sound like shit, dude.

  • japan definatly has more balls when cranked

  • japanese sounds a little bit better, taiwan sounds a little toyish

  • I though initially that the left was the Japanese pedal, and sai "Oh, its actually better!!!" But then he said "This is the Japan" and I went like "Oh damn I knew it..."

  • Great demo Lynch rules...the Japanese version is a tad brighter but I prefer the Taiwan version. Noticeable difference at lower settings. It sounded fuller not as harsh but both are good. When you cranked them both 3: 00 on tone and gain they sounded the same.

  • how about not making sound comparison when you're unable to record sounds?

  • Awefull buzz, why do not test just the sustain increase, I think OD pedals are used for sustain with the buzz as the inevitable evil.

It is like breaking a wrist watch with a hummer. Does not matter what hammer was used and does not matter what the watch was - rolex or timex, the results are about the same.

  • I knew it was gonna suck as soon as I heard the clean signal.

  • @pmcfee1968 Some sort of quality to the audio would have been preferable considering the purpose of the video, yes.

  • @pmcfee1968 WOW you knew tha !!!!!!!!!t. You are very incredible, wow I dont know what to say. We are in the presence of greatness here, people.

  • @Roroc Dumb people like you should avoid sarcasm. Dumb and sarcastic is no way to go through life, son.

  • the japan pedal ....lauder

  • what is the first song?

  • @AliceMudgarden94

"Dead leaves and the dirty ground" by The White Stripes

  • @IdeNaObiad i love the stripes but i forget the name of the song. Nice video!!

  • Comment removed

  • I like the japan one better.

  • cant hear a difference

  • Dead Leaves and the Dirty Ground

  • Very very very very very very very little difference.

  • japan sounds warmer and more full but thats nothing a good amp and a little tweaking cant fix nice demo dude

  • i like the ds-1 better...

  • the taiwan one isnt as loud thats about it

  • now on 2011 they made it in Taiwan?

  • Sound the same to me almost, difference is not enough to warrant a preference IMO

  • Pretty pointless comparison when the audio is at such a low bitrate.

  • The Japanese one kind of "grinds". The Taiwanese one is just kind of... there.

  • in this video, the japan version sounds a tad bigger and brighter. whether it's better or not is up to individual preference.

  • ur guitar sound like shit in this vid

  • No perceivable difference, as far as I can tell but...I'd almost prefer the sound of the Taiwanese model; save myself $80 in the process...

  • The Whites stripes rules !!!!

  • JAPAN knows

  • Tone-wise to my ear, the quality of sound is the same notwithstanding a few decibles. At a third of the cost, not bad for the newer version IMHO.

  • Thanx for the test

  • your amp sounds buzzy umm.... bad. maybe it's the camera mike.

  • It's Not Love by Dokken.....

  • what is the song of the riff at the end?

  • Japanese, louder...... Taiwanese, nearly as loud but falls short a couple dB's.

Japanese, Beefier but noisier...... Taiwanese, a little brighter but more controlled.

Personally I enjoy the Taiwanese better. Sure it's not as loud but turn it up at some other part of your signal chain. Also, I like the fact that it's more controlled because it reduces the noise I heard from the Japanese (whether that's down to the pedal or the guys amp settings, still had less noise).

  • the Jap version all the way, seems like it has much more volume and gain......good job!

  • But i still prefer the japanese one.

  • Very very very little difference

  • with tiny tweeks the taiwan can sound exactly like the japan. since the taiwan version is cheaper i'd go for that.

  • I see a clear difference between the pedals: the price :)

Thanks for your demo buddy! However, if I can offer some friendly advice, you seem to have a lot of fretbuzz when fretting your chords. I heard it when you played clean. It also can be heard with the distorition on and causes some strange sounds in the high register and kind of kills your tone. Try and get a luthier to check that out, he might be able to set it up so you keep a low action with less buzz. Cheers!

  • Nice, but you need to level match. If I do this with my computer volume, these pedals sound the same.

  • dead leaves on the dirty ground :D

  • Jap is a bit louder and more present than Tai, specially in the first comparison. I could use anyone of them though. : )

  • The older Japan model uses a TA7136AP chip and the newer Taiwan model uses a NJM2904L opamp. I think some musicians favor the older Japan models.

  • @stevewatson

Steve Vai used to swear by the old Japanese one, I think.

  • Nice demo. What OP-Amps are they using?

  • YES SIMILAR ...

  • Very similar.
