With the presence of water, wont the calcium carbonate dissolve resulting in the presence of carbonic acid which would speed up the corrosion process?
i dont want this shat. repairing concrete ma azz next this we know those bacteria will develope into killing machine wiping the entire human race. we already have are hands full with skynet already namsayin? we don need this shat namean?
its a bacteria called Basillus pasteruii and when the concrete crack the bacterial its follow the air through the concrete and its crystallize. BUT no for big cracks as that ..
Is the bacteria filling the crack strengthening the concrete? I would imagine living bacteria is not as strong as dried concrete, so I don't see how bacteria filling the crack is "fixing" anything. Is there a website with more information?
@analogWeapon Hi! It is not the bacteria filling the crack... it is a side product of its activity there after contact with O2. Look at Delft website.
Okay so it doesn't help the environment, The expense of introducing the food into the concrete probably matches the cost of maintenance and what happens after the bacteria runs out of food?
things like this i would love to see in normal day life, its great but I people dont like or push for change. I think this alot about brilliant new technology and inventions

No, the money saved on repairing concrete will be spent building more. That's the way it's always been. Was the Haber Process suppressed because it meant less land was needed for the same amount of food? Of course not! We use the same amount of land for more food, and we'll use the extra concrete to build higher buildings.
Isn't this slavery? :O

He said it fills it with calcium carbonate, not the actual bacteria.
yazuak 1 year ago 10
@yazuak The concrete is pumped with bacteria that produces calcium carbonate if exposed to air and water.

Could this be combined with geo-polymer concrete? If it is repaired with calcium carbonate would it be better to start with a limestone base?
