It's clearly not the nikkor 500vr but the 200-400 f4. The 500vr is a fairly bigger lens :-) But the D3s in combo with the 200-400 makes a killer combination. Personaly, I would never buy this zoomlens but go the 300 2.8 and use it in combination with the 1.4tc.
300 2.8 is the best telelens money can buy and primes still offer better IQ over zooms. I got the 300vr and 500vr myself and truely adore them ... Has set me back alot of euros :-) but hey you only live once !!!
Do you think that F4 would be low enough to shoot these kinds of events? Being it's overcast and pretty dark at times, or in my experience anyway. I haven't shot strictly at F4 and may be buying a new lens so yeah. What do you, or anyone else here on YT think? Would greatly appreciate any advice. I don't wanna have to spend an extra $1000 on a 2.8 IS if I don't have to.
@0555182221, it is AF-S NIKKOR 500mm f/4G ED VR, the last model. For skiing is good because it's not so heavy like 400 2.8 and it's long enought on FF camera.
I have the AF-S Nikkor 500 mm f/4 D ED-IF. It's fantastic lens with my D3s+Teleconverter x1.4 , except the weight. I would have like yours because I like it with VR.
oh man look at the amount of snow at the end of the lens hood! that is confidence about the weather proofing of the lens if ever i ahve seen it! fantastic shots great colour sharpenss and the video looks sweet
