  • What other BBC series from the 70s are on YT and are worth checking out? I've seen Dad's Army (!), Secret Army, I Claudius ... could someone pls jog my memory and make a couple of suggestions?

  • ooooh Captain Poldark soo sexy.I own this series but never tire of watching it,cheers for uploading. The relationship between Poldark and Demelza is true love, beautiful series.

  • Thank you for this. Poldark was avidly watched on PBS by my grandfather. I was too young to watch or appreciate it. Thank you so much for giving me the opportunity to see why this series fascinated him so. It made me relive many happy memories of my dear Scottish grandparents. This was such a great program.

  • Thank you so very much for uploading.

  • The stench in the bedroom is from gangrene. Dwight explains to the other doctor that the odour is well known among the war-wounded.

  • Thank you for taking me back to a good time in my life.

  • Thank you so much for taking the huge effort in uploading this whole series! It really got me hooked!

  • Thank you so much AAA+++ loved this when I was a child in England and now I am middle aged living in the US and cannot get enough English programs, to take me back in time if only for a couple of hours a day:)

  • I enjoyed seeing Elizabeth and George's interactions as the series went on. Sad ending for them!:(

  • it was ross gave her this retarded idea... ugh i hate ross

  • @hempenasphalt I haven't doublechecked but the way I remember it is that Ross suggested that she Elizabeth lie about the date of conception, so the child would seem to be premature .... not that she physically induce a premature birth.

  • @CornersFive

Perhaps, but George would probably have been no less doubtful of Elizabeth's word at this time as when Valentine was born, so Elizabeth was determined to prove her loyalty even at the cost of her life. This story is why I find Ross (who raped Elizabeth) and Agatha (who forgot Elizabeth's kindness to her in her poisoned tongue rage at George) to be as loathsome as the official villain.

  • @baraxor: He didn't rape her, at all! Watch that scene again.

They were both very keen to get together... and as they were lying side by side, afterwards, their faces were expressing boredom, doubt, fear and regret - not happiness.

  • poor elizabeth! :(

  • What a sad end .. Warleggan had to have died not Elizabeth (N

  • Thank you Alice, I really enjoy both Series 1 & 2. I hadn't seen it since i was a teen. What a treat!

  • Again, many thanks. I always loved this series, and am so glad to have seen it again. I Googled him, and Robin Ellis is aging gracefully!

  • I still think this is the best series ever shown on Masterpiece Theater!!!

  • Thanks, Alice for uploading this series. Well done!

  • @Veritas56 it's no problem :) thanks for the comments

  • Thank you very much for sharring this beautiful series!

  • Series 1 is available in the US on dvd at acorn online dot com and series 2 at bbc america dot com Robin Ellis announces it on you tube "Robin Ellis Piece to Camera Acorn."

  • Mum bought the DVDs a few months ago and we've watched them three or four times. Fantastic show. We never tire of it. I especially like the mutual hatred between Ross and George.

  • Watched this series thirty years ago as a high school student bedridden with mononucleosis....knew it was great then. Thanks to you, I can now say it is a classic work of art. Much obliged.

  • We watched all the episodes 30 something years ago. I so enjoyed to see all the episodes on youtube. The quality of the pictures are amazingly good, we only had black and white TV then.

It is my favorite series, superb acting and scenery.

    Thank you very much xalicehayesx.

  • The series is available in two DVD box sets (series 1 & 2) as part of the PLAYBACK collection. Many of the old 70's and 80's TV shows are on there now, although many of them haven't aged well. Period dramas however age better than most other shows.

Poldark was a great series only surpassed by 'I, CLAUDIUS', (in my opinion) which is also available on YouTube to view in 12 episodes.

Many thanks for posting, even though the odd episode did have bits missing here and there.

  • yes, thank you for uploading this remarkable series!

  • Elizabeth died of gangrene, but occasioned by what, I've no memory.

  • @bookkeeper57

To hasten the coming of her baby (to make it appear that premature births was normal for her), Elizabeth took a potion that probably contained ergot (yes, the same fungus that LSD was first extracted from). The effect of ergotamine constricts blood vessels, forcing the onset of labor...but as was often the case the vessels closed off completely, leading to uterine gangrene.

  • I just want to say how gratefully thankful I am thar someone like u has taken all this time to upload this memorable show, I grew up all my life with people saying to me ooh ur name is demelza like of poldark. Even though my mother told me about the show and of my Cornish heritage I never understood until now what a unbelievably awesome show! So thankyou very much!

  • I am curious about what was in the potion that Dr.Anselm gave to poor Elizabeth that would cause such a terrible death.

  • Thank you so much for taking the time to share this wonderful series with us, this must of taken a long time to download and I for one Appreciate all your hard work, it has taken me back to a place and time I would have loved to be a part of. Many thanks.

  • the books continue the story where the series have left off ... so do not despair... more Poldark awaits

  • What an enjoyable series. I had no idea it would have been so difficult to find so MANY MANY thanks to you for taking the care to download it for our enjoyment. I don't remember anything capturing my attention like this in more than a decade. What a surprise ending indeed!!

  • Thank you very much for sharing. I had not seen Poldark 2 since it first aired. Many thanks for your time & effort. It is a masterpiece.

  • thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you very very much

  • Poor Valentine!

  • Thank you soooo much for posting all of the Poldark episodes - this was such a surprisingly good find! I watched Poldark in the mid-80's on PBS and have read all of the books - some of them more than once!, right up through to "Bella." Was wonderful to find a way to see the series again! (They all look so young now, whereas for some reason that didn't strike me when I first watched it 25 yrs. ago. <g>)

  • my goodness i can't believe it ended like that! sigh... one of the best series i've ever seen. thanx so much!!!!

  • A 1000 thank you's for taking the time and effort to download this entire series for us. I enjoyed every minute while drolling over Robin Ellis at the same time. What a great program. Wish there were more episodes. THANK YOU!

  • @xalicehayesx...thank you so much for uploading this series! I was hooked from the first episode. I did not see this series when it first aired in the U.S. In fact, I did not know about it until the 35th anniversary special of "Masterpiece Theatre" that aired a few years ago. It was voted one of the top favorites. Robin Ellis was interviewed for the show...he looks like an English Literature professor now. LOL.

Again...thanks so much! I loved it!

  • Such a beautiful serial,the very best,capital I say,capital.

  • thanks for uploading it, as everyone says, it is one of the best cast shows i ever saw and i saw it on it's original release on TV but didn't appreciate casting because i was young and everyone in it was so real. But what a master work to re-watch. Thanks again

  • I love this series...it is one of my all time faves.

  • wonderful!!!!!!!! I loved that i could watch to whole series in one day. I loved it when it first came out and I still love it . A timeless classic.

  • I am always amazed when something like this comes along and one person spends hours downloading it, revamping it and uploading it to share it with others. I've never seen this before and if not for you I would have never seen it and never is a long time. Thanks again for all the work that went into the series and thanks for sharing it. I loved it and from the rest of the remarks I think everyone else loved it too. You're the greatest!

  • @streetwhereulive You're welcome :) yeah seeing all the comments reminds me why i uploaded it in the first place! i know its quite hard to get hold of so i thought i'd put it up here for those who haven't seen it in a long time and cant get it anywhere, i'mglad it makes everyone happy! funny what an tv show can do :)

  • @xalicehayesx One question please. Why did George say he hoped Elizabeth would rot in hell? Can you speculate? Was it because she died and left him or was it something else?

  • George wasn't saying he hoped Elizabeth would rot in hell. He said, "Agatha Poldark, may you rot in hell!" It was Aunt Agatha who first planted the seed in his mind that Valentine wasn't his son and it pretty much haunted his marriage to Elizabeth from that point on.

  • @samgracesmom Thank you for the answer. I didn't hear it correctly. The other morning I hard my computer sending me an alert tone. In my mind I thought that my nine year old had done something to the computer but thankfully didn't say anything. After beating my brains out trying to find what was wrong with the computer I realized the sound was coming from behind me. It was the low battery tone on my cell phone. Some of us just need a little help. Thanks again for yours.

  • How could George think that Valentine wasn't his? The kid was a dead ringer for him, down to the jet black hair! Ross' hair was dark brown, and he had blue eyes. Val had black hair and brown eyes. Besides, he had the same scowl as George.

If that isn't proof, I don't know what is.

  • @InweTaralom And yet Valentine was not George's son. That's why Elizabeth was so desperate for another premature child. Just before she married George Ross came to see her and practically raped her - Valentine was the result. Jud Paynter figured that out after Prudie accidentally let something slip and in the books it is continuously hinted at as well.

  • Too bad Ralph Bates died so damned young. He'd have been 70 years old this year. We miss and love ya Ralphie boy!

  • Thank you very very much for your generosity, taking the time and trouble to share this and giving such pleasure to us.

  • Many thanks for uploading the series. Must have been lots of work.

Saw it when I was a teenager, the German version. Even after more than 30 years I remembered it in most parts. Enjoyed it a lot! Its great!

Its so much fun to see the whole story here on youtube! Thank you again, my regards & best wishes to you!

  • Alice,

I've so enjoyed my private little Poldark party each night, sipping each part like fine Claret, feeling connected to everyone else who watched as avidly as me. And by the series' very inaccessibility, it's been just that much more a pleasure to watch. A giant thanks to you for having done this. I say film more Poldark with the only 2 who can play Ross and Demelza: Robin and Angharad!

  • Dear Alice,

I am your servant. Thank you so much for posting Poldark season 1 and 2. It was so wonderful to see this again. I can't thank you enough.

  • Thank you for taking the time to post all of the episodes. I know it was a huge undertaking. This series was one of my favorites and always will be. Kids and husband keep groaning - "oh no are you watching that again". You will always have my gratitude!!

  • I would like to add my thanks as well. I forgot how in the last two eps it all winds down really fast.... and then she's dead! The end! So, in the end, does George now know that Eliz sacrificed herself and sort of in the process confirms that Valentine is not his? Poor Valentine. At least he has Jeffry Charles.

  • Geoffrey Charles isn't his either..his father was Francis Poldark.

  • All I can say is thank you! I wish we fans could do something special for you since you have brought back this special series for us! Perhaps a party? LOL

  • @riolove58 I'll bring the wine. Cheers!

  • It was fantastic of you to post this series. I saw it, or probably only parts of it, just once, back in the 70's, on PBS - and never forgot Robin Ellis' name despite never seeing him any anything else! I went to the local library and read all the books available at the time - just loved the story. I'll be looking for the rest of the book series now ...

NOTE to BBC: Film more with original cast! I too do not think they're too old even if it is thirty-something years later.

  • Thank you for posting. I've enjoyed it immensely.

  • To find out what happens next read the rest of Winston Graham's series beginning with The Stranger From The Sea. Great books. The story picks up about 15 years later and deals mostly with Ross and Demelza's children Jeremy and Clowance though Ross and George continue to lock horns. Great stories.

  • That was great - thank you so much! It is nice to know that they are here to be re-visited in the future.

  • Cannot believe itis all over! I felt so sorry for Ross as he had found it so hard to get over Hugh. Elizabeth was different, Ross had loved her before he knew Demelza. What on earth possessed her to go off with Hugh when she had Ros!!!!!!!!

Thank you so much for giving us so many hours of enjoyment.

  • Because Ross was not always such a pleasant husband?

I can imagine that Demelza got sick at times of Ross' silent swooning over his former flame - because his love for Elizabeth never truly died, even though he and Demelza had a strong love.

My absolute favourites are Drake and Morwenna - at last she was able to marry the man she had loved all along.

  • Rats...it's over! I cried! Nice that Drake and Morwenna got married. Poor Elizabeth- she really was such a good mother to both her sons. She was very hands on with bother her boys and gave her life for the last child. Too bad - I have time to think about the marriage of George & Elizabeth - he really did love her but could not show it. I feel as sorry for him as little Valentine.

  • And I wanted to add, this series is not available in North American, VHS long out of print and never issued on DVD, so many extra thanks again.

Now, can someone convince the BBC to film the last 5 books of the series with the original cast and no I don't think they're too old even if it is thirty years later.

  • haha agreed :-)

  • @Kirbykat711 you can buy them on amazone on VHS i just bought them. Strager from the sea also

  • Thank you for a spectacular post.
