  • INSANE

  • I play the upright bass in an orchestra and I didn't know it could make those kind of sounds.

P.S. Too all of you people saying you want one, a bass like that costs $1,000 or more.

  • @MoviesReadyToEnjoy $1000 for a chinese-made, barely playable, terribly sounding bass...

  • I want one.

  • Yay!! I'm a bass player!! X3 I love the bass.

  • Constipation face

  • 73 dis-i-like's

  • I play the bass. It is such a great instrument.u can play classical, jazz, blues, country, and sometimes rock. U can't do that with other stringed instruments.

  • @perfect4this how about guitar?

  • looks like hes about to burst into the best cry ever..

  • 1,130,050 views. 1,257,089 by me

  • ok who wants to buy my stand up bass... I give up.

  • @kryptocake Certain musicians are like that. They inspire you to want to play, and then they break your will because you know you'll never get to that level.

  • ted dawne from mumford and sons is better than this guy

  • i could play that... yeah right

  • mind=blown

  • @TengeraMusic He's clearly playing in America.

  • @ClassicRockMan95 It's in Newport... Wales.

  • @alexowain america is the worlds stomach... i assumed he was playing in america...

  • very good crowd

  • what is that? concert for lazy phat listeners? Why they all sitting on their asses?

  • При всем уважении к технике и владению инструментом - сыграно то скучно и совершенно не интересно было слушать.

  • Unexpected. He's not too old. And he sounds white.

  • @jewpiles lol you're right

  • thats hard to fucking do

  • Never listened to bass music, but this just sounds amazing.

  • Every living bassist and many that R gone but got a chance to hear Stanley before they departed this earth would say that Stanley would be in their top 5 maybe even top 3

He can take you on a journey from his woofer rattling slow bow Low E, to his blazing guitar-like runs on his Piccolo bass. AND only Woot+a few others can match him slap for slap.

I'm not crazy about some of his more commercial stuff but nothing compares to early Stan and RTF. ESPECIALLY LIVE!!!

  • Wow, that's AMAZING! I wish I could play like that! Sweet!!! :)))) I think I just imploded. O.o

  • festival 2011 playa del carmen...he is here

  • @Orangemongoose1 it could be called clarkism

  • I've been plating bass since I was 11 and i'll be 14 next month and i don't think i'll ever reach that level! He's good!

  • 0:13 poopy face lol

  • that´s more of a drumset to him^^

  • Look at the guy at 1:45...how can we be racist? We love the same things! Haha

  • INCREDIBLE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • the part of 1:50 was pretty good ... but otherwise ..

  • I can understand his point, as i am too a bass player, but i probably will never reach this good of skill. Absalutly amazing

  • God

  • @limitbreak619 Yes sir!

  • how the hell can he play so fast?!?! If you've never actually played the bass the E string is almost as wide as a pinky.

  • I don't like the part after 3:07

  • Jazz in my pants.

  • LOL his face at :51

  • beast from the start

  • This is out of this world

  • The first piece sounds like a tabla with notes. COOL!

  • is it me, or does he sound like Nicholas Cage?

  • @TehVideoManMakeVids black nicholas cage

  • Do you people realize how hard it is to play like that without making a horrible thump sound and no pitch? The fact that he can even get tone with that technique is incredible, you should all open your mind a little more.

This is an old video, being played through Youtube after however many copies. The sound is going to be shitty, period. If you were there live, or even better, if you were playing it with the music going through your chest, you would hear every little note. Incredible Bass.

  • yes... but will it blend?

  • pretty cool I guess, clarke is obviously a legend, but on the upright this sounds kind of shitty for the most part. mostly just the slapping and fast picking. SOME slap on an upright sounds good, but this sounds kind of shitty. too much slapping, and the fast picking sounds jumbled. if he learned the bow, thatd be amazing, a bass player who can both finger pick and play with a bow, he should learn it! theres a reason why people dont play the instrument like this ...

  • Arguably the best bass player of all time.

  • @florestiner12312 arguably not.

  • Hi Everybody! We are Re-Evaluation Time Band, 4 guys who just want to play energetic and groovy Jazz music, no matter what!We would like to invite you all to check and subscribe to our channel, where is possible to watch videos from our recent tour in italy featuring Steve Hunt on Keyboards (ex Allan Holdsworth´s band), Roberto Badoglio on bass, Bjoessi Klutsch on guitar and Pablo De Biasi on drums. We want to connect with all the fusion lovers and players around the world!Have a good day!R.E.T.B

  • amazing

  • Yes, all well and good but can he use the bow?

  • @electricslipper Most skilfully indeed

  • CHECK CHICO GOMES OUT,PEOPLE...

    revolutionary...on youtube,he is old himself

invented THE TRIPLE DOMINIUM for bass

  • i killed my self after i heard this O.o

  • This Bass CAN talk!

  • i play upright bass but i could never ever play like him

  • FOR GOD SAKE

  • Best drum solo ever.

  • I think I'm going to start a Religion based around Stanley Clarke's amazing bass ability

  • @Orangemongoose1 clarkism

  • @Orangemongoose1 let me doths with you !!!!!

  • @Orangemongoose1 The Church of Clarke.

  • O melhor para mim!

  • Stan the Man!

  • Lets see victor wooten do this!!!!!!!!!

  • jazz in my pants :|

  • ...WATTTT?!

  • Its not an freaky facial action.

Close your eyes, think about your feels abd start playing. That all of it. Naturaly you need some skills but this is how good music is made.

  • i like his facial expression.

  • 1:43 :D :D :D

  • why is there a goliath bass breaks rod in the suggestions? wtf?

  • LOL his face at 0:53

  • WOOOOOOW i had no idea that was possible in the realm of upright bassdom that is truly amazing... that face is the face of someone truly into his music

  • @jonathanguitar27 I still say he's the best A lot of great ones like Helborg Wooten Miller King + the late great Jaco but Stanley is..well Stanley I started listening back in early 70s. He changed my outlook and concept of bass. I try to throw in some Stanley licks when I solo Somebody always says hey man I liked the SC you threw in. I got to jam with Stan in early 80s and it was one of the hilites in my musical career. May I suggest RTF Romantic Warrior if you've not heard before. Amazing stuff

  • @4to88strings yeah romantic warrior is one of my favorite albums the title track is EPIC!!!!!

  • @jonathanguitar27 My fave from Romantic Warrior is Dual of Jester and Tyrant for shear intensity+one solo after another. The idiots who put comments on here like "well he's okay but can he use a bow?" are well...idiots. Someone recomended this vid to them and that's as far as they got. They've obviously never listened to ANYTHING from RTF or solo Stan or they would know, hell yes he can use a bow. They probably think Flea is the best. Nothing against Flea, he's great be he ain't no Stanley

  • @4to88strings I like Flea every bit as much as Stanley, however, you can't compare the two as Flea plays electric bass.

  • @ryedain I'm with you on that. Flea is a great musician. I like much of his stuff.

He is one of a kind in his genre with Trujillo, Claypool etc But I wasn't comparing, I was speaking of the uniformed people making comments of "He's good but can he use a bow." They obviously don't know Stanley beyond one video. I just used Flea as an example of their limited knowledge. I've played for 30+ years, and have influences from Stan, Jaco+Mingus to Entwistle, Lee, King+Flea. Hey, that rhymes! Kind of.

  • @4to88strings Nice. I've been playing about 6 month. You have good taste in bassists. :D Also I totally agree with ppl making stupid comments ie: "yes but, can he use a bow".

  • @ryedain Keep it up the world needs more bassists. Explore. Jazz bassists will expand your mind more but there are many good rock swing funk and even country/blues guys that can show you a thing or 2. Jonas Helborg Jeff Berlin Vic Wooten Mark King Marcus Miller Charlie Mingus Ron Carter for jazz + Geddy Lee Steve Harris Chris Squire Jack Bruce Greg Lake Roger Waters even Paul McCartney are great rock bassists. U can hear me on FcBk, MySpc, or Ourstage under Diego's Diner. Blues/rock

  • @ryedain Oh, and there's one other guy (probably many, many more) but check out "The Dreggs".

I believe his name is Andy West. He's not the original bassist for this band but he seriously smokes.

Anyone who can keep up with Steve Morse has to be great. I've played rock, jazz, fusion, country, motown etc.

I'm a little older now and have slowed a little due to arthritis, but I can still lay it down.

  • @4to88strings I love flea but stanley is imho the best bassist around. From school days to his rtf stuff it's all good. and the people who say crap like that are narrow minded and probably only care about one discipline of the bass...

  • @jonathanguitar27 not comparing them at all just sayin stan is my favorite

  • @jonathanguitar27 Many are greater beyond what you and I and everyone else see and hear but their genre doesnt allow it Jazz guys lay it all out so you know what they have But guys like Roger Waters+Paul Mac dont overplay and have taught me sometimes less is more Hit a note+hold it P Floyd is best example of that Gilmour and Waters can both do so much with just one note. Lee Sklar is best known for Jackson Browne+James Taylor but his work on Billy Cobham's jazz LP Spectrum is awesome.

  • *only been playing bass for three months*

    Holy shat.

  • :o

  • Such a beast...

  • Happy Birthday Stanley!

  • which band is next?

  • he sounds like nicholas cage

  • it's unbelievable! Omg amazing

  • I would say he is like the Yngwie Malmsteen of Bass at 1:52 through 2:09, but that makes me sound like a douchebag.

  • i think i just had an eargasm...then an eyegasm, than i just exploded

  • @PickEmAndFlickEm I think he did as well :L

  • I've just bought a double bass. This is the coolest thing ever. Stanley Clarke is my new favorite bassist.

  • what is that drumer doing to that bass!!

  • @lior13xlr Did you seriously just call Stanley Clarke a drummer? how dare you

  • @TrollMaster2112 Obvious troll is obvious.

    xx

  • Solo bass concert in the rain, beer tent, tough one.

  • 67 people dont know what real music is

  • weee im number 67 !!!

  • @tntparanoia why

  • I'm sure a little bit of him dies every time he sees the fact that his audience is composed of obese women who can't support their own weight with their limbs.

  • 66 people missed the like button

  • fuuuuck, that was insane :D

  • 66 stupids -.-

  • THAT WAS SICK!!!!

  • THAT WAS SICK!!!!

  • Lo que dice este bajista es muy importante, abarca la actitud que debe tener el instrumentista en todo momento

  • why do they call upright basses also double basses?

  • @fruhotchiliman Yeah.

  • @SnowOnABrightDay

    my question was WHY :D

  • @fruhotchiliman Herp derp I read good! Honestly, I think there's some reason to why but I have no clue. The instrument has like half a dozen different names as it is. @_@ Google might know!

  • @fruhotchiliman Upright is adjective. It means 'standing', 'erected' or 'vertical' :)

  • @Siska0Robert yes I know, but why "double"?

  • @fruhotchiliman Oh, I got it wrong :)

It is said, that first basses was used to 'double the bass' line (of organ for example). But I don't know for sure that's the right reason...

  • @fruhotchiliman The "double" comes from the bass' range being mostly in the contrabass register, lower than the bass clef (where a cello's register is). Thus, the double bass' notes are literally "doubly" bass.

  • the best...

  • oooh shit.

  • wow. i feel so bad for not practicing now.

  • Good god, it's a black Nicholas Cage. Listen to the way he talks. He even looks like him!

  • /watch?v=g3fa_EIIgPE&feature=relmfu

  • i feel like a chump but i hope with some serious practice i can almost be barely as good as mr clarke here...

  • I'm starting to learn the double bass and I gotta say if I become even half as good as him then I'll be happy! Also, don't you just love the guy with the umbrella from 1:43-1:50! :D

  • BEAST!!! Hahaha, but his face looks like he's gonna barf... But anyway, AWESOME!!

  • the dude at 1:45 lol

  • amazing

  • AMAZING !!! I LOVE IT !!!

  • Tabs...anybody?

  • @JohnJR2009 Tabs? ooooh, I first thought you meant tabs for the double bass but you probs meant tabs for playing the same on guitar?

  • @FSvsIL2 no i ment tabs for this bass solo.....need ta learn that shit hahaha

  • @JohnJR2009 lol hahaha

  • In the words of Will Smith in Hancock .... "That's just not fair to anybody !!!"

  • slappa da bass

  • I think I just jazzed myself...

  • Great..

  • I play electric bass guitar, but I'm interested in either a upright bass or a cello. I don't know which one would be best. Is upright bass alot like normal bass guitar?

  • @TheJanpetra

not much, but its amazing as the electric one

  • @TheJanpetra Well, the biggest and hardest difference to adapt to would be that the upright bass doesn't have any frets, so you'll have to memorize each sound, which is probably the hardest thing, after which you have to get enough hand and finger agility, but I'd still recommend you to start the upright bass. I play it myself and I'm not planning on quitting anytime soon, although it can be hard.

  • Great, but his face is kinda distracting though ;)

  • All of that time you took, sir, makes me very happy! I am an ametuer bassist and you show me beauty in my instument, that i'd never dreamed of. Thank You to the poster! thank you MkKrai!

  • His fingers must be immune to pain, because after a few mins that would fkn hurt to wack his fingers like that.

  • @TheAtheistAussie My friend who is an excellent guitar player actually has lost a lot of sensation in his finger tips, so I imagine Stanley Clarkes fingers have zero sensation lol

  • I'm such a retard for not going to that, I only live 30 minutes from there.

  • 1:46 F* YEAH!

  • Awesome!!

  • Comment removed

  • But will it blend?

  • where was this? bassstock?

  • @theoriginalMaxman2 I would go to that. Who wouldn't?

  • he's one with the joo-joo!

  • Any dumbass that every criticizes Clarke for playing a short scale Gibson needs to take a look at this video.

  • 64 people missed the LIKE button

  • DID HE JUST SLAP THE BASS.

  • wish I could do that :D

  • Anybody want to buy a bass for cheap? Mine's for sale now.
