@dlgelter; Oh my god we are patient aren`t we. This kind of response can turn you off any kind of music but in my case you are just another ignorant. I hope my english does not annoy
you too much, you see I` norwegian and i`ve had a brainhemorrige?Did that turn out right?
okay so even if jim reeves was better (it's a matter of taste) does that make this bullshit? unbelievable how hostile some people are. i happen to adore ry and not just because he's a dynamite performer, but also as an ethnomusicologist (as was john hartford) whether he calls himself that or not. one or a thousand people's preferring a different version of this song doesn't change that.
Wow, here's a nice find; thanks for posting; My mom ( who resides in Heaven circa March 1987), and her favorite Jim Reeves song , a true classic, collides with one of the music industry's and my own personal hidden treasure's. Great performance, I think there are actually some young people out there to who are starting to appreciate talented """"musicians""""; I know, it's all a matter of taste; Try Ry Cooder "Borderline" cd or album whatever you can get; Great Stuff!!
@jmodmon2 Yes! Borderline is such a great album! I also stumbled upon this version after loving Ry for years, never knowing he'd covered this Jim song, also a tune that my mom introduced to me. :) I bet your mother was lovely. :)
@scania143h550 It's just a different way of doing the song. Ry and the boys just put a little Tex-Mex salsa on it. I LOVE it and I also LOVE the Jim Reeves version. Variety is the spice of life.
This song was a comfort to a very sad 19 yr old Dutch kid after he had to break up with his sweetheart. back in 1977, because her haughty solicitor father did NOT approve of a son of simple farmer and sent her to a public school far away in Switserland.
We were just watching the dvd of the SNL show last night! Dick Cavett was the guest host from November 13,1976. Great music always on Saturday NIght Live! ;-)
Ry Cooder includes the iconic Flaco Jimenez on many of the tracks on the album. Chicken Skin Music is one of my favorites, bought it on vinyl originally. Have followed Ry since, it's been a groove, like the post, thanks.
