@zatan130 Oh cool. I checked the definition of pastiche and I don't think they borrowed the style of the Beach Boys as much as they were influenced by it. It may have even been an homage. However, you definitely know more about this than me, so I will diferr to your Beatles wisdon.
In my Modern History class, we are doing the USSR and every time I read/hear the word USSR my mind automatically goes "I'm back in the USSR! You don't know how lucky you are, boy."
What McCartney said about this song in 1984:"I wrote that as a kind of Beach Boys parody. And "Back in the USA" was a Chuck Berry song, so it kinda took off from there. I just liked the idea of Georgia girls and talking about places like the Ukraine as if they were California, you know?...."
Ringo actually didn't play drums to this.... Paul played one track of drums, then george and john played tracks to it then they layered them all together!!
The single biggest mistake of today's youth is thinking that The Beatles shouldn't be played loud. They Really Should, and this song is a great testimony to that.

@DremordDrale 20 years ago actually. But I was referring to some of the comments below my comment, which are talking about slavery, which ended in the U.S. over a hundred years ago. But I can see where you got confused
@CashMoneyDollar Once again, people were talking about slavery, which ended in America over 100 years ago, at the time I posted that comment. I was referring to that, not the USSR
@guitarist2195 lol! 100 years ago? you mean less than 21 years ago? being interested in world events and politics is not something to look down upon kid. its a shame intelect is not as rewarded as ignorance these days
@dirty1smelly1turban I was talking about slavery in the U.S., which ended over 100 years ago. At the time of my comment, there were people discussing slavery in the comments, so I commented about that, not the USSR. I should have been more specific though...
@Stevedore2010 Fucked up economy? You gotta be kidding me! the only reason that the Union had to abolish slavery is because the South had better economy than the North, not for stopping slavery! The North hated the slaves even more than the South, and that kids, is what we call hipocresy, and the fact that UK colonies used slaves (until 1807) IS NOT EXCUSE TO HAVE THEM! Mexico abolished slavery in 1814 (6 years before independence) and US. is Imperialist, therefore, your argument is invalid.
@LeCannoneux "the South had better economy than the North, not for stopping slavery! The North hated the slaves even more than the South, and that kids"
wat
The Southern economy was worse than its Northern equivalent in 1860, at about 30% of the national economy. By 1862, when the Emancipation Proclamation came around, it was complete shit. In 1870, it was hovering near 19%. That second part I'm not even going to dignify with an answer. Lost Cause Dumbass.
@Stevedore2010 You didn't kick UK'S ass! Your Spanish, Dutch and French renforcements did! Without those, the red coats would just simply destroy you as easily as writind "destroy". You didn't creat the U.S. the Irish, Chinese, Russian, Italian and German inmigrants did, so as Mexicans (well, latinoamericans in general) and Black slaves... And technically when the Independence come, you were from british mother and british father, technically british.. so just stop sayin bullshit man D:
@Stevedore2010 Britain abolished slavery in 1807. The British Empire did not crumble then. 19th century saw its height. Get your facts rights. The bottom line is this: Europeans created America. Whether it was fucked up or not is another issue. Without Europeans, there would be no USA. You wouldn't be where you are now if Europeans hadn't discovered and colonized America. Your saying that America is superior to Europe is a bit like a child saying it's superior to its mother.
@slabart12 I'm sorry, but you'll have to excuse my fellow American citizen here, he really doesn't know any better. The educational system here in the US is terrible, and basically from kindergarten through high school we are basically taught that we are superior to everyone else. While this is probably untrue, we are not told any different.
@Stevedore2010 I'm not even British but the fact is that Britain created USA. Without Britain, there wouldn't be USA. Europe is superior to USA because of its great history and achievements. You won't change that even if you get a million nuclear weapons. 'People like you are hateful and envious'. That's ridiculous. I have nothing against America. USA played positive role in both world wars. I just had to respond to your comment about 'America being superior to Europe'.
@Stevedore2010 Oh, really? I thought you had a civil war about slavery. How can you attack Europe for slavery if you were practising it yourselves? Britain abolished slavery in 1807 and USA in 1863 so don't try to take moral high ground on that. European civilization is far superior to any other- da Vinci, Copernicus, Galileo, Beethoven, Newton, Pasteur. Need I say more? European languages are spoken all over the world. You cannot even compare Europe to USA because it's just ridiculous.
@Stevedore2010 If the Europeans had not landed 'in a bunch of places', your country would not exist. There would be nobody to rebel against 'monarchical assholes' as you kindy referred to us Europeans. Had it not been for British, Spanish and French colonialism, USA would not exist! Americans are basically Europeans who colonized North America unless we are talking about Native Americans. Europe is superior to USA, always has been, always will be. Get over it!
@Stevedore2010 Are you serious? Europeans discovered the world and created America, which is just an offshot of European civilization. Europe has a history of thousands of years going back to ancient Greece and Rome. You speak a European language- English. America cannot be compared to countries such as Britain or France. Europe is superior to America.
HAHA I love all these political/historical fights going on. Guys the song is great, why can't we listen to it without fighting? I'm from America go ahead and say what you need to say about me. I don't care.
Last time I checked: America suck at their foreign policies (well, domestic ones too, but that's not our problem), and most Europeans who listen to this song actually consider it a breath of fresh air as opposed to most mainstream politics in the US.
i used to listen to this song when i was a kid, i'm still fifteen, but i mean when i was 10, and i loved it! i would listen to it everywhere and at any time of the day, it has such an awesome rythm and it's so joyfull.
man i wish music actually evolved and surprised me ever more... instead in this time it was subjected to a giant regression, just like anything in this decade.
Love this song. I am a proud American, but this is the funniest freaking song ever!!! Can't keep from smiling when I listen to it!!! You tell 'em Paul!!! :)
Why would you be a proud American? From a political standpoint: Your people is the most gullible, arrogant and easily manipulated people out there. I mean, sure, I love the surface of your country and all, but you salute the flag and sing about freedom whilst a monolithic corporate conglomeration is running your lives like you were common puppets! For your own sake: Isn't it time to stop being proud and start to fix things? You know, like Gorbachev did...
@TheFacelessActivist Nah bullshit, im sure you just say that because you are jealous that America has more freedom than your country. Besides, if you are from Europe, you should be more grateful to the US, come on, we saved you from the nazis, the communists and we are working to keep you safe from the Muslims, just have a little respect OK.
Wow... That's amazing, you honestly think that's true? Don't you realize that the instabilities in the middle east was brought on by the US in 1953 when they abolished democracy in Iran, installing a dictator in order to prevent them from nationalizing the oil, which then lead to the nuclear incident which allegedly justifies their presence there now?
And, my homeland has both gay marriage and universal healthcare, and our census data is way better than yours.
@TheFacelessActivist that time we actually saved Iran from communism, the terrorists took over later. I dunno were you get your information, must be from communist propaganda. I dont think is a good thing that your country's goverment has the power to force everyone to accept gay marriage or that you aren't able to chose any healthcare you want. That isn't good that just means you have less freedom.
Iran was never under any threat of communism, so it's odd to try and save them from it, given how they were an independent democracy aligned with the UK at the time being... Churchill always sounded like a Russian name to me.
Also: Freedom is about being able to do what you want. If you don't accept gay marriage: Don't marry a gay person! What you guys have is uniformity, and we didn't like it when the Nazis did it either.
@TheFacelessActivist i love my country because I was born and raised here, and I have pride in this land. No, not everything's perfect, some people will be in power that not everyone agrees with but that's just how things work. I don't think it's your place to call my fellow Americans gullible, arrogant, and easily manipulated, especially since all I did was say how much i love this song. I didn't say "That's stupid, the USSR sucks!" or anything like that. Why start an unnecessary argument?
Actually, you started it with your nationalist rhetoric and prejudices, I simply asked how one can be as self-destructive as to be proud of something so trivial as a country. But yeah, I can see how geopolitical tyranny is justified by an irrational attachment to imaginary lines drawn in the sand, and the patch of textile representing them.
I do admire the way you yanks prioritize things...
@TheFacelessActivist what??? what are you even talking about? are you replying to the right person? literally all i said was:
"Love this song. I am a proud American, but this is the funniest freaking song ever!!! Can't keep from smiling when I listen to it!!! You tell 'em Paul!!! :)"
How on EARTH is that prejudiced in any way? Look, I don't know your beef with America, but I haven't done anything except admire a song. Calm down.
@TheFacelessActivist Don't be silly. Geographical borders are basic and necessary parts of human survival, and are closely related to collective group identity - which is an even more necessary and natural part of human life and progress. "Nationalist rhetoric and prejudices"... Yeah, Jesus Christ... Here's one for ya: Marxist and cosmopolitan rhetoric and prejudice.
@TheFacelessActivist Lol, just trying to argue in accordance with how reality actually works, not how I'd like it to work. Labels... probably the best thing the Left ever had.
You're right, it is pragmatic to define the worth of a human being based on his geographical location which is defined by imaginary lines drawn up and preserved since the ages of conquest. It's not stupid or borderline insane at all... As a matter of fact: Let's bring back bloodletting and inquisitions too, people are too squeamish these days.
Or: We could stop thinking that rich people are right just because they monopolize media outlets.
@TheFacelessActivist When did I ever claim that we should define the "worth" of a human being based on his geographical location? I didn't. However, we should define the "value" of a human being based on group identity, which is defined primarily by race, and culture and in some cases religion. Who ever claimed that rich people are right just because they monopolize the media outlets? Not me. Maybe the lemmings, but not me.
Actually, you do by serving as a conduit to their propaganda. See, to indulge in your little übermench-philosophy, a primary requirement must be met: You must be pathetic, and in denial of it. I don't know if it's remedial intelligence, lacking physical aspects... But you must have some reason to find your existence to be lesser, and seek compensatory means to justify it. Such as racism, for instance. Look at Hitler, for instance. King of compensation.
@TheFacelessActivist I'm not serving as a conduit to anyone's propaganda, and if you seriously believe that "rich people" (the homogeneous collective of rich people!) is propagandizing for my beliefs, you're dead wrong. As I said, labels and ad hominem has always been the modus operandi of the Left. "Pathetic", "lesser existence", "racist". I simply don't care what you call it, the only thing that matters is that what I say is objective truth, and you lack logical arguments.
You right wing nationalists use "foreigner", or "white", or "black", "Jew", or even in some cases "female". There's a difference between an ad hominem and common terminology. You think people of different races should be entitled to different kinds of privileges, ergo: You're a racist. Racism is an irrational concept brought on by social elitists, and thus rendered mute.
At least I have some dignity instead of just dulling out menial ad populums...
@TheFacelessActivist I think you've misinterpreted the social elitist/establishment agenda, it's all about egalitarianism. Anyway. I define people as black, white, Jew, foreigner and female because those are all biological/genetic groups, is that so hard? I think people of different races should live geographically and socially separated, because that is natural, good, healthy and essential for biological human survival.
Nature is arbitrary and circular, not relative, which means that despite all your studies and efforts: You're incapable of understanding the universal principals of existentialism. Just because we're able to create cells less prone to culture microbes and emulate external tissue from manufactured fiber: All of a sudden you seem to think we're superior. Get over yourself. Nature isn't ours to represent, and their sapience is as valid as yours.
@TheFacelessActivist Your pseudo intellectuality is stunning. Please explain to me the "universal principle of existentialism" (lol), really, I'd like to hear it. The biological goal of every living organism is survival and from that follows reproduction, an organism cannot survive unless it reproduces within its own group. Your philosophical insanity cannot renounce objective reality. Objective, collective superiority does exist, whether you like it or not.
Pfft, beats your quasi-intellectuality. Objectivity is subjective to the extents of our perception, which means that a human being is incapable of expressing objective notions, and what I meant by the universal principle of existentialism is that we all respond to natural stimuli, only difference is how we perceive it, ergo: You're not able to be objective. How was that not obvious? You doubt my intellect when I'm the one who has to spell everything out...
And also, Mr. "I study genetics": If you were as smart as your arrogance suggests, you'd know that the human psyche is incapable of deducting objective truth due to our existential basis, and perception thereof, which means that your paradoxic claim of knowing objectivity has an internal logical inconsistency brought on by your own neurobiology.
@TheFacelessActivist I hope english isn't your first language, because your grammar is pretty poor. Also, we as people don't have the ability to "fix" things. The whole world wants the U.S. to fix everything, and when we try to solve other country's problems, we get criticized. And what is wrong about being prideful of your country? The U.S. is the most powerful country in U.S. most likely helped you out at one pint or another.
What you guys did to us was to at several times extort and harass our citizens to gain their scientific knowledge, despite how you were in no ethical way entitled to it. The CIA is also suspected for murdering our prime minister since he criticized the Vietnam war.
And, due to your incompetent diplomats: There was also a 50 year gap in history where you had a geopolitical tactic that involved exterminating my people as a whole. Now, don't you have warcrimes to commit?
@TheFacelessActivist Because I have relatives in Sweden, and visit often I know you are talking about Olaf Palme, and I have heard conspiracies about either the CIA or KGB killing him. My answer is : No offense but the U.S. never has and never will care about Sweden. It is a very nice country, with no problems, but has the population of my neighborhood in NY. Trust me, Sweden never comes across U.S. official's minds, I know you wish your country was more involved with the world, but it isn't.

Your saying that America is superior to Europe is a bit like a child saying it's superior to its mother.
slabart12 1 month ago
@slabart12 I'm sorry, but you'll have to excuse my fellow American citizen here, he really doesn't know any better. The educational system here in the US is terrible, and basically from kindergarten through high school we are basically taught that we are superior to everyone else. While this is probably untrue, we are not told any different.
SilverBullet1984BFH 1 month ago
@Stevedore2010 I'm not even British but the fact is that Britain created USA. Without Britain, there wouldn't be USA. Europe is superior to USA because of its great history and achievements. You won't change that even if you get a million nuclear weapons. 'People like you are hateful and envious'. That's ridiculous. I have nothing against America. USA played positive role in both world wars. I just had to respond to your comment about 'America being superior to Europe'.
slabart12 1 month ago
@Stevedore2010 Oh, really? I thought you had a civil war about slavery. How can you attack Europe for slavery if you were practising it yourselves? Britain abolished slavery in 1807 and USA in 1863 so don't try to take moral high ground on that. European civilization is far superior to any other- da Vinci, Copernicus, Galileo, Beethoven, Newton, Pasteur. Need I say more? European languages are spoken all over the world. You cannot even compare Europe to USA because it's just ridiculous.
slabart12 1 month ago
@slabart12 Sorry, Europe. We can't hear you from space.
c4r50n1 1 month ago 4
@Stevedore2010 If the Europeans had not landed 'in a bunch of places', your country would not exist. There would be nobody to rebel against 'monarchical assholes' as you kindy referred to us Europeans. Had it not been for British, Spanish and French colonialism, USA would not exist! Americans are basically Europeans who colonized North America unless we are talking about Native Americans. Europe is superior to USA, always has been, always will be. Get over it!
slabart12 1 month ago
@Stevedore2010 Are you serious? Europeans discovered the world and created America, which is just an offshot of European civilization. Europe has a history of thousands of years going back to ancient Greece and Rome. You speak a European language- English. America cannot be compared to countries such as Britain or France. Europe is superior to America.

Last time I checked: America suck at their foreign policies (well, domestic ones too, but that's not our problem), and most Europeans who listen to this song actually consider it a breath of fresh air as opposed to most mainstream politics in the US.

maroon5lovers15 3 months ago 31
@maroon5lovers15
TheFacelessActivist 2 months ago 3
@TheFacelessActivist Nah bullshit, im sure you just say that because you are jealous that America has more freedom than your country. Besides, if you are from Europe, you should be more grateful to the US, come on, we saved you from the nazis, the communists and we are working to keep you safe from the Muslims, just have a little respect OK.
cakemaster303 2 months ago
@cakemaster303
TheFacelessActivist 2 months ago
@TheFacelessActivist that time we actually saved Iran from communism, the terrorists took over later. I dunno were you get your information, must be from communist propaganda. I dont think is a good thing that your country's goverment has the power to force everyone to accept gay marriage or that you aren't able to chose any healthcare you want. That isn't good that just means you have less freedom.
cakemaster303 2 months ago
@cakemaster303
TheFacelessActivist 2 months ago
@TheFacelessActivist i love my country because I was born and raised here, and I have pride in this land. No, not everything's perfect, some people will be in power that not everyone agrees with but that's just how things work. I don't think it's your place to call my fellow Americans gullible, arrogant, and easily manipulated, especially since all I did was say how much i love this song. I didn't say "That's stupid, the USSR sucks!" or anything like that. Why start an unnecessary argument?
maroon5lovers15 2 months ago
@maroon5lovers15

How on EARTH is that prejudiced in any way? Look, I don't know your beef with America, but I haven't done anything except admire a song. Calm down.
maroon5lovers15 2 months ago
@TheFacelessActivist Don't be silly. Geographical borders are basic and necessary parts of human survival, and are closely related to collective group identity - which is an even more necessary and natural part of human life and progress. "Nationalist rhetoric and prejudices"... Yeah, Jesus Christ... Here's one for ya: Marxist and cosmopolitan rhetoric and prejudice.
TrueScandinavia 2 months ago
@TrueScandinavia
Yeah, a racist who thinks borders are important. Big surprise there. Shouldn't you be off on a rally somewhere, trying to dissect the hominidae?
@cakemaster303
Big deal.
TheFacelessActivist 2 months ago
@TheFacelessActivist Lol, just trying to argue in accordance with how reality actually works, not how I'd like it to work. Labels... probably the best thing the Left ever had.
TrueScandinavia 2 months ago
@TrueScandinavia
TheFacelessActivist 2 months ago
@TheFacelessActivist When did I ever claim that we should define the "worth" of a human being based on his geographical location? I didn't. However, we should define the "value" of a human being based on group identity, which is defined primarily by race, and culture and in some cases religion. Who ever claimed that rich people are right just because they monopolize the media outlets? Not me. Maybe the lemmings, but not me.
TrueScandinavia 2 months ago
@TrueScandinavia
TheFacelessActivist 2 months ago
@TheFacelessActivist I'm not serving as a conduit to anyone's propaganda, and if you seriously believe that "rich people" (the homogeneous collective of rich people!) is propagandizing for my beliefs, you're dead wrong. As I said, labels and ad hominem has always been the modus operandi of the Left. "Pathetic", "lesser existence", "racist". I simply don't care what you call it, the only thing that matters is that what I say is objective truth, and you lack logical arguments.
TrueScandinavia 2 months ago
@TrueScandinavia
TheFacelessActivist 2 months ago
@TheFacelessActivist I think you've misinterpreted the social elitist/establishment agenda, it's all about egalitarianism. Anyway. I define people as black, white, Jew, foreigner and female because those are all biological/genetic groups, is that so hard? I think people of different races should live geographically and socially separated, because that is natural, good, healthy and essential for biological human survival.
TrueScandinavia 2 months ago
@TrueScandinavia
TheFacelessActivist 2 months ago
@TheFacelessActivist Your pseudo intellectuality is stunning. Please explain to me the "universal principle of existentialism" (lol), really, I'd like to hear it. The biological goal of every living organism is survival and from that follows reproduction, an organism cannot survive unless it reproduces within its own group. Your philosophical insanity cannot renounce objective reality. Objective, collective superiority does exist, whether you like it or not.
TrueScandinavia 2 months ago
@TrueScandinavia

@TheFacelessActivist I hope english isn't your first language, because your grammar is pretty poor. Also, we as people don't have the ability to "fix" things. The U.S. is the most powerful country in U.S. most likely helped you out at one pint or another.
