Everything about this is stunning. The use of a cool palette, with the black background, and blue faded lighting that is vivid and fuzzy. With the use of what I think is one of the best pieces of music of all time, and not to mention one of the best ballerinas!!!! Plus the white silouette, almost like a ghost or memory that represents the past and this history of such an terrible event. Everything about this is daunting and beautiful, definitely one of my all time favourites to view!
I dance from my 3th birthday that was my present first ballet shoes and costume. and now I'm 13 years old and i always wanted to become a ballet dancer but her in Serbia if you are too high they wont take you... I want to become a surgeon now but ballet is my passion and now I'm going to auditon and I was inspired by this performance and this music. if i was born in Russia or in America i would becom a dancer but i live in Serbia and i can't but i hope them hires my. I LOVE YOU ZAHAROVA!!!
I felt that she was trying to pull off a Sylvie Guillem "Wet Woman" kind of a thing but it came across to me as weak; her feet/ legs are impressive and she is beautiful, but this type of dancing does not suit her.. And the music is from Schindler's List, a movie about the Holocaust. The dance might not be related and can be interpreted in a number of ways..
@clarissapascual I completely agree. I always feel like an ass whenever talking about her with other people. Most dont understand how I can find a dancer with arguably the best extension & technique of her generation completely uninteresting to watch. Amazing technique aside, to me she comes off cold and completely devoid of any emotional connection with the pieces she dances. I think there are dancers who are far less technically gifted, but more beautiful to watch b/c the emotion is there

omg! i love this! this dance is so weird but beautiful and the same time! and she so mysterious and gorgeous! its really impressive how they combine ballet and moves from modern dances.
Am I wrong if I say that she's probably the best dancer of all times? I've never seen such technical perfection, expresiveness and soul all together in the same dancer. Simply breathtaking...
can someone offer me a DOCUMENTED explanation for this piece and the whole context of it. plz...i do not want any personal interpretations (i cud do that myself..lol)
Isn't this the theme song to Shindler's list? (I think I spelled that wrong... >_>;) but if I'm not mistaken, that movie was written to tell the atrocities that the jews suffered during WWII.
I was entranced the whole time...the whole thing was absolutely amazing...!
if with pointe her hiper-extended legs where just wow her feet alone with nothing are just amazing!!!! wow and the execution was amazing. is true the story behind this choreography is the suffer of jewish people during world ward II??? i have read some comments about it or this choreographry is just abstract???
I...think this is so diferent, its very beautifull too, but, can anyone explain me what does it means?? i mean, what is the message in this? its amazing...and at 6:19...WOW
What is revelation about? Or is it just abstract? Sorry, I haven't had as much exposure to contemporary and abstract and single pieces... So beautiful though.
@2milashka1992 In viewing this, it seems to me about her sense of imprisonment and her relationship with her captivity. example: Looking through the bars of the chair and imagining a bird flying free (in the movement she did with her hands thru the bars). Blaming her captor and then it coming back to stab her. I liked&even loved much of the choreography but found that some moments of expressed narrative seemed too literal & obvious to me. not in integrity w subtlety possible of the rest.
She is highly technical, rhythmical, strong dancer but this choreography doesn't really showcase her complete abilities...Choreography is scattered, broken movement doesn't flow. She need to work with Mat Ek and Isabel Ochoa and Graham Company choreographers to test her abilities!!
I saw her dancing this piece live in february. I couldn watch because of my tears. It was breathtaking. Zakharova doesnt express her emotion through her face but through her movements. One should see her dancing live to understand.. I used to think that she is just a dancer with a flawless technique and nice legs but I changed my mind once I saw her onstage. Amazing artist. XD
Well you can barely see her face (it's really dark) so that's kind of hard to say, and when you do see it...well, I thought there was so much emotion in the choreography alone that when she added her facial expressions, it just gave me chills. Well I liked it anyways, I think it's incredible and I'm not even going to start criticizing what emotions she did/did not depics, because I wish I were HALF as goo as her! Lol. One day.
^Sorry I don't have room to finish what I was saying. I wanted to ask: why does everyone say Zakharova shows no emotion/always have that same smile on her face (no smile here, though)? I don't think it's fair to say that from looking at a video because seeing it live takes it to a whole new level. I heard that people who saw her perform on stage said it was amazing and much better than seeing a video of it.
Even in the videos I see of her, I can't help but make an involentary gasp/sigh of jealousy/amazement/awe. But what do I know...? On a different note: Hey Ms. N do you have an account and did you see this?? It's Noa. I hope you saw this!!!!! :)
I suppose I should have known I would be "lectured" for putting up my own opinion. About the darkness: Sure, it's dark. That doesn't mean I can't see. The choreography itself is emotional, but that doesn't make it anything; when I watched the video, all I noticed were those extensions. That's why I said I didn't think she was emotional. Her extensions were great, but they were almost too noticeable. I'm not saying that she shouldn't do them; it's her choice. I'm just not a big fan of them.
It's true that seeing something live is better than a video. I don't have the time or money to go see her, nor do I live near Moscow.
Many people say that Zakharova is emotionless because that's what she does sometimes. People can say that she has no emotion, but that doesn't mean always. That was what I meant with my previous comment; there was little emotion in this. In her Giselle, though, With Bolle, it was emotional. She has that side to her, but I think she needs to bring it out more.
Neither do I, unfortunately. I can't speak about other pieces, but for this one, i think that sometimes a completely blank face can containe so much sadness and emotion and that's just how i see it here. She looks almost dead or really suffering. I wish I could see someone else perform this with what you would call more emotion so that I could understand how that would be.
I didn't mean to lecture you, I respect your opinion and I was just saying that I would never have even thought about a lack of emotion were it not for all the talk about it. So if the extensions weren't so emphasized, they would be more equal/proportional to the emotion shown and it would be better to see? I honestly am just trying to understand all this ot make my own performance better and because I really never though that about her before. Thanks.
I understand what you mean. I do mean that the piece would be...better without such extravagant extensions. I just don't really like them. It takes away from the emotion, which she does have. ;)
Yes, I see what you mean, now. The thing is...It's so hard in the first place to get to a pointe when one is comfortable with their own dancing, that I can't even imagine how hard it would be to figure out where to cut the line between "this is not enough" "this is perfoect" and "this is too much." It just seems wierd to tell someone not to use their full ability.
Although I guess it would also have to do with the choreography. I personally think that the high extensions just go with the choreography and it looks like it should be like that...for something like the sleeping beaauty maybe it would not be appropriate. So maybe she does really just need to work on emoting more to 'match' her extensions.
Oh well...I still can't get over hwo beautiful this piece looked overall and how it touched me, with Schindler's List music an dall. My grandpa survived the holocaust so I dunno, this is a very meaningful piece and I still find it so emotional even just the choreography.
You mean, you don't see any emotion on her face or you didn't feel anything? Please watch the video another couple of times this time make sure you use a headset... you will understand the true emotion of it all.
I'm going to say, first of all, that is is what pisses me off. I have my own opinions, and you can't change that. Okay, she had emotion on her face, I'll give her that. It didn't affect me because it looked fake. Maybe I've watched too many videos of Lopatkina, because she gives me some feeling.
But Zakharova isn't the right person, to me. It's all personal opinion.
Everything about this is stunning. The use of a cool palette, with the black background, and blue faded lighting that is vivid and fuzzy.
