@poleodementa We agree, but all the cats we rescue are from bad captive situations and cannot be released into the wild, so we provide them with the best life possible while in captivity.
@GottaloveNicole Cheetahs aren't commonly kept as "pets" like tigers/lions etc... so we are never notified of cheetahs that need rescuing. If there was a cheetah that needed rescuing there are a lot of people who would pay for the cat (backyard breeders who sell and exploit cats) so we never hear about the cats in the first place :(
I'd never go to a circus or to a zoo (except field trips in grade school) but I could see going to this place and not feeling like I abandoned my moral values.
Where in Tampa is the sanctuary? I've been to Tampa, and I don't live too far away, but I've never seen or heard any specific location or address, because I'd love to visit one day :) I'm also an artist, and I'm working on my portfolio this year in AP art, and I'd love if I could get some photos for my concentration. I love animals and want my concentration to be focused on them somehow, and I need references that aren't copyrighted by others. Also, do you charge to get in? And how much if so?
We are located across the road from Citrus Park Mall - 12802 Easy Street, Tampa FL 33625. If you let me know what sort of photos you are looking for I could send you a few of mine no problem, hope you can make it for a visit someday :)
Wow, I'd love to come visit. Too bad I'm stuck in PA. Ah, I could live at a place like that... Such magnificent creatures... They all look amazingly healthy here, and I'm glad you guys are so great to help these beautiful beasts.
I went to a similar Preservation Station in Myrtle Beach, T.I.G.E.R.S.... they have tours that allow you to interact with some of the animals there. What a treat!
Baby tigers (my personal fave), a baby lynx, several apes, a binturong (bearcat), wolves... we also got a good look at a liger and some leopards, some grown lynxes, and watched tigers chase a lure at full tilt. :)
You've just gotta ask why they're breeding these cats just to spend their lives living in captivity, then interacting with Lynx, wolves and apes could be extremely dangerous if they decided to attack you. This is why we do not breed or have any contact with our animals :) What do you think about ligers?
The difference is that this is a preservation station, not a rescue. The handlers spend a great deal of time with the animals, and they are accustomed to human presence. As for the ligers, most unique animals... truly massive, though thankfully relatively sedate.
I'm not sure what the role of a preservation station is? But places that offer contact with large dangerous carnivores and make them perform, don't get my support.
@BigCatRescue I personally think there is a fine line between a good and a bad reason to have contact with cats. I believe that training an animal to perform is wrong, and is much like raising a child in servitude. I DO believe that playing with an animal is good for the animal's "social life" and it's ok if other people watch (naturally, when the animal is EXPECTED to play for the bystanders, then it becomes a performance; bad) But mammals do need a social life, ideally with other members of th
@JuliusGratekul Having contact with big cats, is extremely dangerous and promotes the idea that these cats make good "pets" which goes against our mission. We can still interact with them, talking to them etc... we they like but actual physical contact is a bad idea, the animals are always the ones that suffer, so many unwanted "pets" are abandoned by their owners each, year, the lucky few end up in sanctuaries whilst the rest ??????......
Beautiful faces all!! I saw an article in a British newspaper about savannah cats and I commented on how bad it is to cross breed wild and domestic cats, and then asked all posters to check out Big Cat Rescue. The world needs to know about what you do for abandoned big cats, and how bad it is to cross-breed or keep them as pets.
for animals that were not born in your sanctuary but have experienced mistreatment by previous owners I find them to be reallywell mannered and pleased.
Thanks, we're doing our best, we often get comments from many visiting animal care staff that we have the happiest and most content cats they've ever seen! :)
Yes, that was Nyla, she was a product of the entertainment industry, backyard breeders sometimes inbreed there cats which makes them more docile/dependant.
omg i love the big cats so much, i want to see them! i wish there was a program where you take voluntary workers and yeach them how to care for the animals. i would sign up
Omigawsh! Great vid once again :D I was wandering why u guys dont put them back in the wild...I mean...isnt there any other way then keeping them in cages like that?
Thanks, unfortunately this is the best we can do for them, there's no way these cats can be released back into the wild, they associate people with food and many came from backyard breeders/pet trade so their genetics aren't 100%. What we need to do is preserve habitat so the existing wild cats can survive, if we can't do this we are in trouble!
I saw him on the episode where people say they saw a couple large black cats in the Northeast, Palisades area. He was just on there talking about what kind of cats it could have been. Interesting.
They can roar, they don't stand there and roar like a lion would to mark their territory, but they can roar like a tiger can if they don't like something!
My daughter always gets excited when you guys post a new video :)
I finally got to catch Lion feeding frenzy with Scott on it. Omg that would been so scary to be in the box with them trying to chew on it. You are brave!

would love to come down and see the care these guys get they look great.
have worked on an f1 savannah and it was weird how the behaviors would switch from wild to domestic animal in a second
luckily he was 10 lbs
you're brave. a 10 lb dsh can do some damage...
but these animals are magnificent
wated a lynx at one point figured i could provide the care, but they live 30 years and bond with one person, would eat my regular cats...
even so a visit is on my list
