  • Those floored by Gavin's progressive style should check out Lars Ulrich from a band called Metallica. Ulrich is the superior drummer.

  • @bergerfry STOP FEEDING THE TROLL YOU FAG.

  • @DTxOctavariumx Why the name calling? Couldn't think of anything intelligent to say?

  • No Doubt !!! Top of the food chain !!!

  • Simply amazing!

  • 1:26 Again. And again. And again. For so long I can't remenber. Yet my brain still don't get it.

  • I love his kit setup. It's a lot like mine, except if I had the option I would put some octobans on the left side, other than that this the perfect kit setup IMO. I know some good drummers use small kits but I don't know why, they're severly limiting themselves, you can play drums musically if you have more than 2 notes to play with so I don't know why any drummer would want just 2 toms, it's just completely lame, but a hell of a lot easier to set up at a show that's for sure.

  • @thnk4urself Different strokes for different folks. Limiting yourself can be a good thing sometimes - it can force you to be more creative with what you have.

  • @kirkhetfieldtrujillo it forces you to do more with less, that's true but I don't think it makes you more creative, I think it makes you focus more on the simple things, which can be good but I think creativity is a matter of perception. it's different but I guess what's better is up to the drummer & depends on the music/goal. what I'm saying is that having just a little bit more is better. It's more pleasant to listen to in my opinion, it's more musical, & for me it's much more fun to play.

  • this performance is a little bit overloaded with fills but just because everyone is watching Harrison, not Porcupine Tree

  • This guy is just insane. Been studying him lots recently for a new technique ideas. I love how he has a double bass pedal but doesn't cover up crap drum fills with the sound of double bass going...any drummer that hides behind a double pedal should just get off the stage!

  • best drummer in the world ;) by me

  • the snare drums sound is worth gold...... Aaah<3

  • Love his smooth way to fill!

  • love how he saves the double kick and doesn't over use it like most do. Really proves how legit his nature talent is. I've never heard this guy play before but he is legendary.

  • personally i like the fill at 4:03

  • 1 snare, 1 bass, 5 toms, perfect drum set

  • CLEAN!

  • I guess you can consider yourself a great drummer when someone like Simon Phillips introduces you

  • yes i agree the tune is great and the drumming is all of the above. I will be following this guys drumming.

  • When he die, hes not just gonna die , he is going to give God some drum lessons

  • The song is also realy realy nice! Gavin has some good taste. Awesome drums, cymbals, playing, sound, band!

  • @drummerjen That's because its his band, Porcupine Tree, and actually as good as this song is, they have much better stuff.

  • @jejdigo I know it's from Porcupine Tree ^^ I just orderd there cd In Absentia :D

  • amaizing

  • The sound of muzak indeed. This floundering fop is the antithesis of deft and sonorous musicality.

  • He's at work

  • thats proper drumming. not exaggerating but not just playing along. the drums can define the song. the drums give life the to the song. gavin is a GOD

  • Love this song hahaha, Gavin >>>> ALL!

  • 100-1 like ratio, quite good, not nearly as good as the muzak tho XD

  • he's not godlike..!!

    he is god!!

  • The groove kills...

  • Whats the songs name? :o

  • @ZapiI4life Look in the Title: "Sound of Muzak" by Porcupine Tree

  • HOLY FUCK THAT WAS SIMON PHILLIPS!

  • @Metaldownloads What??? I love Porcupine Tree!! But I can see how a lot of people wouldn't. They're not really main-stream.

  • @Metaldownloads u are shit

  • What kind of snaredrum is this? Aluminium?

  • @MaunProductions not too sure about this one, but you can always just search into youtube "gavin harrison tuning" and some vids there give you close ups of his snares.

  • I always wanted to see both guys together.

  • what song is this????????

  • @Mmmkay41 Sound of Muzak by Porcupine Tree.

  • @Mmmkay41 look at the title of the video -.-

  • shitheads don't like this : \ perfect song perfect drummer what else ??

  • 12 don't like why????It's sooo goood...

  • i was there... fuckin' awesome

  • @mariotelaro Sir, you may officially call me, "Jealous!"

  • Such an AWESOME AWESOME drummer. Such taste, feel, dynamics, and cool cool beats. Laid back and oh so relaxed. All I aspire to be as a drummer. One of the greats.

  • @steelstud7 agree, but why do them drums have to sound like cardboard-boxes ??

  • @SuperHighGloss Your right there. They dont have a lot of ring to them. He seems to go for very little sustain in his sound.

  • and they shall call him GAVIN

  • pulentoso!!!

  • !!!WTF DRUM FILL @ 1:46 WTF!!!

  • The china cymbal hit at 1:50 was such a nice touch.

  • I just love you Gavin :)

  • you know your sick when you end a fill with an epic hair flick!

  • I saw Gavin perform along side Pat Mastlotto with King Crimson.

  • GOOD DRUMMER

  • Really good...awesome drummer with a great music ;)

  • PERFECT

  • I really respect Gavin Harrison's ability to not overplay a song by adding a million fills. He played this song perfectly.

  • i love that 20' crash of doooom!!!! it sounds wicked!!!

  • Man, Harrison is god-like, but then, you start to pay attention to the lyrics.. and holy shit, it's just as good.

  • My favorite fill takes place at 4:55 you think he missed it but at the very end it resolves beautifully

  • @Noruego

I love that fill too. If you want to hear something similar(ly awesome) check out the song "The Art of Dying" by Gojira. Mario Duplantier utilizes that same technique multiple times.

BTW, I love this guy's style, but I've never really listened to Porcupine Tree even though they seem right up my alley. Anyone care to recommend me songs/albums to start on?

  • @DrummingUpGames thanks I'll check that song out! I strongly recommend you listen to "Signify" and "Fear of a Blank Planet" they're amazing albums to begin with...

  • @DrummingUpGames Fear of a Blank Planet, In Absentia, Deadwing. They're the three albums that I started with and they cover a lot of the different styles Porcupine Tree do. I haven't found a song I don't like yet.

  • @Jacobiskoby37 definitely, what these guys said. Also try out Centox, an interesting band.

  • babys fucking bum..

  • if i could have one pro drummers kit out of all of them it would be gavin's!

  • Everyone is missing the best fill here. 1:26 is groups of 5 against sextuplets starting on the 6th beat of the first bar of 7/8. That's an absolutely genius way to open a verse.

  • @paulegavin not sure about the thing with 5 against 6, but it's not on the 6th beat in 7/8 but on 3+ in a 7/4 and resolves in the 1 of the next bar/measure ;)

  • @xSBxBBBdx, I think he basically stated what you said except he thought of the 7/4 as two 7/8.

  • @xSBxBBBdx (RLRRL) <--- group of five. Starts on the 6th eighth note of the groove's cycle whether you see it as 7/4 (how it feels with overiding) or 7/8 (as it is, according to Gavin in other videos). On the 6th eighth note he plays sextuplets, but that group-of-5 sticking over the sextuplets.

  • i met him and shook his hand and signed my phone haha :) hes so nice!

  • He must really abuse his high hat...a LOT. lol

  • his snare looks soo small, but sounds sweet and big... HOW?? he's a wizard, thats my only explanation

  • @izzyxallegro Microphones :P

  • @LavAzza1982 by big i dont mean loud, i mean fat and deep in tone. You can probs do that in the PA mix but i wouldnt expect a great drummer like Gavin to resort to that form of cheating

  • amazing, greetings from Polish

  • the fill at 2:04,god like !!

  • @tanaynesws Look the Cobra Clutch work just a while before-after it. You really need great coordination to do that!

  • one of the most creative drummers around, everything has technique and creativity!

  • Will you be my dad????

  • Whats that zildjian crash on his left side ? fucking brilliant

  • @imenra 18'' Oriental Crash Of Doom. It's discontinued. I think there's only the 20'' available right now.

  • That fill at 4:04 is so sick!

  • @3rudymora ;)

  • @3rudymora 4:04 WICKED SICK!!!!!!!!!

  • 1:20 - 1:21 may the happiest fill I've ever heard.

  • seriously, if this guy has even one flaw, in his talent or personality, it definitely doesnt show. amazing dude,

  • musigasm

  • One of my favorite albums of all time and spotless drumming by Gavin. Just a spectacle to watch damnit I need to see him live.

  • Ye, but i bet he can't put a fruit pastille in his mouth without chewing it....

  • if my erection persists I may have to seek medical attention. amazing drums.....beautiful song

  • ohhhh my fuckiiiing god!!!!!! AMAZING!!!! \m/

  • Fucking amazing

  • 4 different rhythsm .... AMAZING

  • I a young, inexperienced drummer with a budget drum kit that sounds like arse. I am immensely inspired by Gavins style, talent and creativity, and while I may not even get close to reaching the top of Gavins socks, I would give my right arm to play for five minutes behind his kit. This kit. This perfectly tuned, transcedental-sounding kit.. God I wish I knew how to tune my drums like this..

  • SIMON PHILIPS - GAVIN HARRISON KING CRIMSON!

  • AMAZING

  • Dumpert!!

  • Perfect Taste ,but I hope that someone can upload the HQ version because good music deserves high quality!!

  • ''MUSIC OF REBELLION MAKES YOU WANT TO RAGE''

''BUT IT'S MADE BY MILLIONAIRES WHO ARE NEARLY TWICE YOUR AGE... and getting rich filthy rich off of your teenage angst...'''

  • Cheese is good.

  • A pocket as deep as the Marianna's Trench....

  • I just finished playing drums, and I was like: Yeah I nailed it... I'm the beast!

Then I watched this... Fuck this shit I won't play drums again.

  • @DanielGonzalezC same feeling here...

  • would be a lot better if the video was in sync all there other vids are.

  • @zackatronstix The F are you talking about? This shit is tight, like a witch cleft. Or so Wilson would say :D. Maybe you're lagging or something.

  • Who knew that Leonardo DeCaprio was hittin the skins between making movies?

  • Watching this video, I first suspected that Gavin Harrison is actually a robot from the future with a perfectly-wound metronome for a heart. But no robot has such a deep pocket. You could get lost in Harrison's pocket. It's like Narnia in there.

  • That girl you just called fat? She's O/Ding on diet pills. That girl you just called ugly? She spends hours putting on makeup just so people may like her. That boy you just tripped? He gets abused enough at home. Remember the man with the ugly scars? He fought for our country. Remember that woman with the distorced face? She was in a gas explosion. People dont have to hurt. Like or post this to another video if you are against bullying. 99% percent of you wont. I did

  • @Thrasher51590 Why would you post that here? If you're gonna post your stupid chain-letter, at least to it on a video where it has some sort of relevance. That chain letter has no effect other than making you feel better about yourself, by creating the illusion that you made a difference.

  • @Thrasher51590 Shut up.

  • I could listen to this forever.

  • 3:10 favourite part of the video haha

  • what is the time signiture for this song?

  • @RJiminez51 7/4

  • @RJiminez51 Rather than Holskey777's suggestion of 7/4, I would say it's a compound signature - the verse loops in 6 and then 8 beats, the chorus is 4/4.

  • @MrNickToone 6/8 + 8/8 = 14/8 = 7/4. It's all the same.

  • @dblinkhorn32 Although the main riff could be thought of as being in 7/4, it has an eight note feel to it, so applying the 14/8 idea is a more realistic option.

Bravo Garrison.

  • thats how you tune up a drum set, perfect sound.

  • @senseijct2 actually tu much reverb on the snare but the rest is :Q_______

  • @xXObscureNightmareXx

What does that have to do with the tuning? O.o'

  • @senseijct2 it really is flawless....its the the perfect example of what drums should sound like

  • @senseijct2 yeah, but it's a $5000 kit O_o

  • @ransisua i guess 5000 wouldn be enough at all...

  • addicted song

  • this set is 8x7, 10x8, 12x9, 14x14, 16x16 12x5 snare 22x18 bass drum.

  • who would dislike this musician?for f#ck's shake...

  • Gavin has tremendous poise

  • Gavin harisson is just too much! absolutely amazing drummer!

  • I could make love to his snare...

  • Davss5- if you look up neil's solos he has a Buddy Rich tribute. It's Perty :)

  • Why 6 dislike?

  • Can anyone please tell me how to do the fill at 1:18 ? It sounds very cool : )

  • @JalleSD That's just quads (rh-lh-rf-lf) moving up the toms, with a triplet thing on the snare at the end. Try slowing it down, it's pretty simple once you work it out :)

  • @Carthasy thank you for the help ;) I really appreciate it

  • @Carthasy They're indeed quads, but its sounds and look more like rh, lh, rh, kick, rh, lh, rh, kick, snare x3. I might be wrong but it sound so much like this. love this fill :o

  • @TFIFH He is not a small man, but he does use smaller percussion kits than other drummers. Prog drummers are VERY picky about their sound, Gavin more than anyone else. He is the best dynamic drummer in the world in my opinion. Big drums are clumsy and drown you in deep tones, small drums give you more control over the sound coming out.

  • Is Gavin Harrison the size of a bear or are those drums just tiny?

  • @TFIFH 8, 10, 12, 14, 16, 22, 12

  • @NerfLad His snare is 14"

And his floor toms are 15 and 16 :-)

  • @fabriciusbjerre - His snare in this video is a 12x5. Toms are 8x7, 12x8, 14x9, 15x13 and 16x14. 22x18 bass. Just thought you'd like to know. Peace bro.

  • @8eatm0nster I just read about his set on his internet site :-)

    But I guess you're right :-)

  • such a beautiful sounding drumkit. this is just playing out of heart, this is awesome !

  • Neil Peart's favorite album is a porcupine tree album, in absentia i think :)

  • When I see this man, I can't help but smile. Such an amazing drummer.

  • @Mrduderpants Same man, it always amaze me how Porcupine Tree/Gavin Harrison live performances are as good if not better than studio. They somehow own the instrument while visually transmiting their passion.

Those times signatures make me feel: Fuck, that groove is so good and catchy and hard and.....i need to play RIGHT NOW.

If one day i can achieve to make people react like that to my music, ill die a happy man

  • @uruzumi I hear you man. There is just so much energy put into their music and performance. I saw them on their most recent tour. Very charming and wonderful show.

  • Some people say neil peart is the best then they see gavin and say OMG (o my gavin!)

  • @felixcf1 I think both of them are the best. Gavin has better technique tbh.

  • @felixcf1 While I feel that Neil (like other drummers) has made valuable contributions to drumming, I have not yet seen/heard Neil go beyond the rock/prog rock genre (i.e., Rush)...can you point me to any other genre Neil has played (e.g., jazz, etc.)?...Thanks...

  • I never get tired of Gavin's playing.

  • Amazing drumming. Gavin, and Neil are my heroes.

    Peace.

  • where can if find the drum sheets??? please help!

  • chuck norris can play this on triangle

  • @DorLugasiMusic hahahaha. original =)

  • 1.27 this is really a brilliant break!..... Good Job mister Gavin
