Flew over from B/fast, left my bag in the back seat of a taxi night before, wearing 2 day old clothes on the night of the gig, got the bag back and got a mate in to see PW live!
A tough, street-smart, smart-alecky, & also sincere, compassionate, fragile, fractured & tuneful. PWs sad eyes betrayed an empathy for the suffering of others, his fans know that when he sings, he's singing for them as well as himself. sympathizing with all the so-called-losers, outcasts, social misfits - the downtrodden - of the world, but he hangs with movie starts too, because he's so fuck!n' cool that movie stars want to hang out with him. He's beautifully, perfectly imperfect, & our hero.
I was lucky enough to hang out with him on his tour bus for about an hour after his '04 Charleston, SC show. Sat directly across the table from him, drinking a Heineken Michael Bland gave me, smoking Paul's Winstons, and talking about everything from ADD to Tommy Stinson, to his work on the "Open Season" soundtrack. He gave my wife the shirt and tie he wore for the show. It was crazy. The guy's been my rock & roll hero since the 80's.
Oh, yeah. I'm also the guy whose Converse All-Star gets signed at the end of his "Come Feel Me Tremble" DVD. The marker is faded a little now, because I still wear the sneakers. ( :
I was there - I definately consider myself to be a lucky bastard, especially when I was asked to hold his songbook up for him, as he forgot the lyrics to My Dad...!
Memories of a great night. Me and my brother were on stage slightly to left of camera with huge grins on both our faces. Hope we don't have to wait another 8 years before PW comes back to England
Brilliant indeed. My son's song, I was there too, left of (the dial?) the screen, The Scala in King's Cross in North London, equal best gig of my 35 years of life and 18 years among those of gig going
Never get tired of this video, thanks for posting.

I never heard that Paul hangs out with movie stars - they might want to hang with him but he doesn't hang with them. He's a father and husband..

Paul, drunk as usual. But I'd walk 20 miles to see the Replacements play again!

Amazing performance - saw him NYC on this tour. One of the best US songs of the past 20 years. Easy.
