  • Makes me remember VICTOR BORGE ajajaj

  • I like this version...

  • Phenomenal playing!

    Reincarnation of Victor Borge.

  • "innate lack of musicality" - what a fucking blowhard thing to spout off.

  • He loves his work, and is good at it.But he acts like a cunt.

  • hes not even pressing all the keys

    ROFLLLLLLLLLLL!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I think he is one of the best pianists in the world! God bless china! No one has the fingers like he does!!! No one! His performance is always so passionate I just wanna get up and dance! Absolutely amazing, no doubt! From his face impression you can tell he put so much soul in his playing for the love of music! Bravo!!! Lang land rocks! As always and always will be period! I just wish that those idiots should realized how ridiculous their comments sound like, obviously they're jealous!

  • 3:40. Just watch it there. He looks like he's doing something that I won't mention

  • So many wrong notes, what a disgrace for a so called "superstar"...

  • This man is a Piano Professor... His mental processes are exceptional as they're in intrinsically complex.

  • Why on earth and for the love of all that's holy does he make such UGLY faces?! His technique is clearly not at issue. It's those DAMN ugly ass faces!

  • WONDERFUL LANG LANG ! FRIENDSHIP RAYMOND

  • He finished the piano off good.

  • This fucking dumbass has no understanding of western music. The tempo and emphasis on certain phrases sound random and strange, there is simply no flow. People say his strength lies in virtuosity. Oh yeah? Listen to the difficult passage from 2:49. He obviously isn't able to play the notes cleanly like Kissin, and completely fucks up, trying to sweep it under a rug by doing a glissando. Pathetic.

  • Thank You Walt Disney =)

  • Okay, I'm not a piano enthusiast or have not much knowledge about what makes a good pianist but I even can tell that this shit is messy and just fast paced. Why do people hype this guy? "Oh, look. I can play the piano really fast but not put any harmony in my shit. At least my unfunny facial expressions comprehend for this fuck..."

    The worlds doom.

  • Kissin is better.

  • ...he was actually hitting shitloads of the wrong keys, not that this fucking matters...his audience all old stone faces...nice esthetic contrast to LL, he was no fucking old stone face, sure as hell, right?...

  • All the Viennese charm of charging bulls. God this crap makes me angry when there are so many fine musicians who can barely get a date to play.

  • Like it or not, he is the biggest box office draw as far as pianists go. Those who attack Lang Lang cannot aspire to even 10% of his talent.

  • @bhaihay1 the talent he puts to waste? i love him for being stupid. i hope he remains that way.

  • How cheap! What a buffoon...

  • What a horrible interpretation of strauss's music. Watch Kissin's interpretation instead and forget Lang Lang. He is an idiot.

  • Gentle: the ability to destroy...and the decision not to.

So let me be gentle...and just say that this is quite a technician and mechanic, but ridiculous.

  • @guyontheblackchair lol... well said... too bad lang lang himself has no qualms about destroying great music with his shallow ridiculousness...

  • I had the great pleasure of meeting him back when he was 19 years old. He played the Liszt Pagannini Etudes like a god. Too bad he has never recorded them.

  • OMG, Lang Lang can play anything, he is a great virtuoso, but I really really don't like his way of playing. It seems like he is joking with the composer and with the audience... and he is so convinced that he is the best pianist of all time that i can barely look at his face...

  • @abajour I cannot agree with you more! He can play anything but nothing well, and egotism like his is a sure mark of an inferior intelligence which, unfortunately, no amount of trickery can ever cover up.

  • Only for YouTubers and Internutters who no nothing about piano playing or music.

  • oh god...toooooooo spoiled....sucks

  • too fast and alot of mistakes.

    cheat at 3:08

  • majority of these comments are spam

  • Oh this is so awful, especially at the end if you can last till then.

  • better expression...but kissin is more note-precise

  • maybe they didn't like it, because of EVNgeny

  • it doesnt sound good the way he plays it.

  • Oh god, this is awful. Lang Lang doesn't understand Strauss Jr or the Viennesse Waltz at all. His tempo is all over the place, Kissin plays it better (although there is a video of Buchbinder playing it which captures the Viennese charm perfectly).

Ah well, all technique and show and no musicality as usual.

  • And with this piece he earned a black belt in piano from the Hu Flung Dung Conservatory. Those of you who think this performance is good have obviously not heard the performance by Alfred Grunfeld himself, or by other pianists of a sliughtly later period such a Szreter or Rehberg, not to mention more idiomatic modern recordings by Thibaudet or Scherbakov. THIS IS REALLY AWFUL.

  • Nice, but since there is Kissin's version on youtube, with a better sound, better realisation, and imho a better interpretation, the interest is limited.

  • is yuja wang better than lang lang?

  • @utubuser10 dnt think so..but we cnt compare them..yuja plays Criffra's version of pieces mos of the tym..

  • 3:39 orgasm LMAO

  • bouff girls would melt around me if I played like that :p

  • now this is real talent.. oh god

  • kissin is orthodox . langlang is of his own feature.

  • he's got NOTHIN' on evgeny..

and I haven't even started the video yet

  • beautiful

  • facial emotion is hilarious :)) ! I like it =))

  • This is fucking hilarious.

  • rofl he is the greatest emotion faker ive ever seen :)

  • :D:D what a clown! Please watch Evgeny, he's so much better!

  • why did you forwarded this vid? it's obvious from the outset... you make it sound like crap.

  • uauauauuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu bravoooooooooooooooooooooooo

  • sorry, prefer Kissin... obviously, i can't play this xD, i clap my hands at him...

  • 2:47 Lang Lang shreds "La Campanella"

  • @parule And it sounds terrible

  • 201 people are deef.

  • @cockroachcrusher 201 people just don't like it...

  • @gpablo14degmail And 1 is tone deef.

  • @cockroachcrusher no no... just me... xD

  • does he every play anything SLOW ... and not banged out .. ?????????

  • He is maybe pianist but he belongs to circus.

  • Obviously a very technically advanced player, but he doesn't get the style quite right. You have to relish and savor Viennese Waltzes, not burn through them at 1 million mph. Kissin does it just right.

  • i think abit too fast listen to kissin's playing

  • you can't help feel sorry for lang lang. it looks like his parents forced him to practice.

  • @utubuser10 Whether his parents forced him to play the piano--- look at it now! He is NOW the most sort after pianist for both Orchestra and solo concerts throughout the world. The man is swimming in money...go figure!

  • This is the way Strauss would intend it to be performed by Virtuosos who could deliver it beyond the limited visions of those who like music delivered by those who understand the metronome much better. Strauss would be proud of Lang Lang. Not one single quaver out of place. Who can do that at this level of technical ability?

  • @Maputort Strauss didn't write this; Gruenfeld did. Strauss wrote an overture for full orchestra; Gruenfeld used the themes from it to make a virtuosic piano piece.

  • @mrpankau thanks for that update, it is interesting indeed to know these facts - and it gives a real perspective on them when I re-listen to them. How difficult it must have been for some of these composers to (say) "copyright" compositions or prevent sideline autographing (if there would be such a term) of their original scores.

  • Fabulous playing, but a real mess at 4:40!

  • Wang wang = stupid clown making faces to cover his shit playing.

  • fu****

  • B U C H B I N D E R !

  • i know strauss's compositions there are some waltzes here

but in 2:48 i dont know the composition

is that strauss arranged by grunfeld

    ?

  • i prefer kissin...but this is still exciting playing

  • If you compare him to Kissin then I have nothing to add. :-) They are both empty and fake with very fast fingers and even faster PR. Chinese Opera and Western Classical Music don't mix well, but are sure popular these days! I love Chinese Opera by the way, but not interpreting classical music while balancing plates on the stage. By the way, the playing was crude and heavy while fast and loud.

  • @EdmontDantes2 as if grunfeld really meant this romp to cater to your elitist tendencies.

  • @utubuser10 Thank you for recognizing elite taste and wisdom.

  • @EdmontDantes2 my pleasure.

  • @wclmyy: kissin was 26 when he performed this. Lang Lang was 23. Let's not forget that kissin performed the rachmaninoff third piano concerto(arguably the most difficult concerto written for piano) when he was only 21 with the Boston symphony inder seiji Ozawa. He was asked to do this as a celebration of rach's concerto. His virtuosity is not to be questioned.

  • whats the name of the piece on 2:48

  • @Sashomei The whole piece is "Soiree de VIenne" by Alfred Grunfeld. It is based on waltz themes from Johann Strauss Jr's "Fledermaus".

  • i dont think kissin is better then that... kissin is just too serious... lang lang is showman kissin is serious even in major pieces...

  • in my very very very personal opinion that i would like to share, i feel that his approach to music is very trivial, superficial and audience-centred, which - again IMO - should not be the case in professional music.

  • I loved his book it was gorgeous!

  • he is a clown playing for people who dont understand music

  • EXCELENTE INCREIBLE BARVARO Y GENIAL

  • kissin is so much better!!! but lang lang is intresting too. i cant say that its not exciting

  • Haha he had a piano orgasm at 3:39

  • @imaking191

    whaha wtf! xd

  • @imaking191 xD hahahahahahahaha!!!

  • @imaking191 so did i

  • @imaking191 me too !

  • @imaking191 lmao

  • I think he's on Crack :D:D:D

  • at least lang lang makes me WANT to play piano.

  • @geographyihate Well then you haven't heard a real pianist.

  • @sahalexx i play piano.

  • I like his piano. He is not only playing fast........You can feel the happiness.

BTW, Kissin is more than ten years older than Langlang.

  • Comment removed

  • does he play anything from the radio too ? this is a bit booring xD

  • actually its a very good interpretation, he jsut made the mistake of starting playing befor he sat very good, that destroyed the beginning...he has brilliant ideas and a stunning technique, but he somehow kills the maintheme with his beginning, the rest is very good, and actuallynot to fast. And he has fun playing it, do u guys realy belive he would only play for virtuosity? why should he ? hes having fun over a very funny paraphrase...!

  • Evgeny Kissing is about playing it with emotion.

Lang Lang is about playing it as fast as humanly possibly, while smashing the keys and looking like a complete retard.

Dislike me if you want, but this is just how I see it.

  • kissin is far better

  • i love his music as much as i hate his face expression.

  • What a drama queen!! :-((

  • I don't like this interpretation. It is just self-satisfying.

  • Lang Lang sucks, thanks god for you tube so people can see what a fucking clown this fuck knuckle really is.

  • WOW IS GOOD

  • No control, no rhythm, fucking terrible

  • althought this is extremely impressive, this ISN'T being played as a waltz. This is just showing off and destroying a masterpiece. Lang Lang needs to watch Evgeny Kissin play this.

  • Yeah! wit' soul.

  • The man got what it takes to deliver!!!

For those of you who don’t like him because of “facial expressions”, my advices, put on the music and close your eyes and enjoy. Music is meant for the EARS not the eyes. If you want something for the eyes visit an Art gallery.

  • @skimask777 just closed my eyes and listened. Nothing special

  • @SpR4y510 dude. u can't really get anything special from playing. u get special from composing.

  • @Musicownz1997 what is that supposed to mean? No matter how many times I read your comment, it just seems like a biased generalization

  • @SpR4y510 what i meant is if the piece's plain, u can't get special out of it... like try

playing czerny's pieces in a special way... or hanon...

  • @skimask777 tell bang bang that

  • @skimask777 "The man has got what it takes to deliver!!!"

Too bad he hadn't become an obstetrician instead.

  • @skimask777

I agree. But my issue, as that of many other people, with Lang Lang has nothing to do with his facial expressions. It has to do with innate lack of musicality, of any real understanding what he's playing.

  • @Spiritakis

Precisely. However, it is useless to debate this with people who like Lang Lang's superficial technique that covers an empty shell where a musician should have been. Where he in my class, I would send him home to think about some music and stop practicing Hanon and scales.... An all too common story in the past, but no longer relevant these days to the world that seeks a new toy and a lowest common denominator in classical music. Just turn on your local NPR or classical radio..

  • @Spiritakis Your grammar is wrong! Correct English would be: "My issue ... with Lang Lang ... is _my_ innate lack of musicality ..." Lang Lang is the only pianist today to employ tempo rubato correctly and not play like a machine. You have to go back to Alfred Grünfeld (born in 1852, and Johann Strauß' favorite interpreter of his works) to hear similarly idiomatic playing. Neither Horowitz or Richter had this ability, they all sound like would-up metronomes in comparison.

  • @chrisz78

With all due respect, my grammar is entirely correct. That you disagree with my opinion, which you are of course at perfect liberty to do, is another story. Please do not mistake the two things. The rest of your obviously highly informed opinion I will leave without comment

  • @skimask777 Yes, music is for the ears. But music is not only something as a sound. It is emotions, it is subtleness. And if you find anything subtle and something called "music" (not only "technically well made sound") in Lang Lang playing, your right for your taste.

  • He gets a whole lot of jizz faces. But he plays fucking brilliantly :D

  • he doesn't put anyfeeling to it.

  • @musicioso: both technically and musically Kissin is better. Kissin is note perfect and has finger work of sheer brilliance. Lang Lang is actually a little sloppy and does not have the understanding nor the intellectual drive Kissin displays in all of his interpretations. Listen to Kissin playing the same piece-Strauss 'de fledermaus'- and you will see Kissin is perfection personified!

  • OK you armchair critics, can you do better? If you don't like it switch screens, it's just that easy. No need to be nasty.

  • Lang Lang , the expression is supposed to be in your playing, not in your face/extravagant arm flinging

  • Kissin is better because he does not overplay it, he is not playing it to show off, and he understands the music. None of these facets reside in the absurdy hysteical and posturing individual known as Lang Lang. Lang Lang is a circus act, a trained monkey, Kissin is a genius of the highest calibre! They should not even be mentioned in the same breath.

  • kissin and lang lang technically equal but lang lang give more emotion to the piece and takes us to the heaven with his expressions

  • @vbatuhan

lol...extact the oposite is the case. Technically lang lang is better. But Kissin is musically more interesting.

  • kissin is better

  • Kissin is better

  • Kissin's much better than him

  • Circus version!

  • @bloodymary61 you made me laugh man..lol

  • Lang Lang orgasm: 3:42 He must've been thinking about his boyfriend.

  • I think that,if strauss was at this concert he would throw his shoe on his face,

I mean wtf,he fucking don`t understand the music.Kissin ten times better.Kissin is artist, and this creature is hacker who have fetishes for tehnical complexity,And stupid face expressision is retarded.Like he was in asylum. The best pianist is who don`t show any exxpresion ,even in his fingers, but in tone or music.U guys just close ur eyes n u will understand what was i talking.,,,,,,,,sry for bad English

  • I think that,if strauss was at this concert he would throw his shoe on his face,

  • Dear Lang Lang,

We all stare open-mouthed at your brilliant technique and virtuosity, but please mind the music and stop squeezing in unnecessary and superficial rubatos, tempo changes, and gestures. If we all closed our eyes, it would pretty much sound like crap. Thank you.

    Sincerely,

    Your Concerned Classical Music Enthusiasts

  • schafft das erstmal! ... und dann gebt schlechte kritiken ab.. -_-"

  • Horrific. No dynamic control, all over the place.

  • he plays so fast.i like it so much.

  • You know whats sad is that every nagative comment said here is like the same treatment liszt got between him and thalberg. during the 1830's and 40's liszt was a virtuoso showman and lang lang is a virtuoso showman. and kissin is a note perfect perectionist ( not that thats bad) and liszt acted crazy on stange just like lang lang in a way. So mabye lang lang is like a Liszt and kissin more like a thalberg ! just my opinion. Though liszt probably had a more cleaner technique.

  • @AmericanCars101 We're not criticizing his virtuosity, technique, or even his showman qualities, although Kissin did play this much clearer. What we are criticizing is, however, how he plays through this piece without a morsel of musicality. It's absolutely horrendous. If he considered the music more seriously and was a musical showman, then we would shut up and wonder at his greatness.

  • wow. he sounds like crap compared to kissin. and the weird thing is, they were both child prodigies.

  • There are certain things in life it's ok to be the "minute man." This, unfortunately, isn't one of them. Sorry dude, Kissin reigns supreme.

  • ass hole

  • hes kinda crazy.

  • this guy is a clown but there is not much about music

  • @Makelelex99

how can you say this lang lang is the master of the piano and his soul is very beatiful he feels the piece

  • guys guys, u just need a very unique mind to understand him.

just because ur taste is average doesn't mean this is bad...

    foolish elementary music students.

no but seriously kissin's would appear more tasteful for most people, this is just speical, if art was sso structured to good and bad, ur missing the point.

  • @kettellive i think lang lang just overdoes everything in general to the point where it's distastefully incomprehensible and i don't understand the purpose or context of the piece.

  • @kettellive Right. Special to the point where it's not even music anymore, it's noise.

  • @kettellive i'm glad your comment exists

  • i can't feel the music in his show, just feel dizzy from his playing

  • This is shit

  • eeeeh, very ugly

  • for those of you think he's not good in your opinion, well....do you think you can play like thim?

music shouldn't be like...who's better....it is all about how much that individual enjoys the music, cuz if he or she enjoys, the audience will too, get out of your box, lang lang knows exactly what he's doing, he loves it with a passion, and he plays the music the way he wants it done

  • @93basketball

Right, and Kissin can play it infinitely better.

  • I fail to see any remnants of Strauss in this piece. He has turned into a crass shadow of the fledermaus. He has spent too much time trying to emulate a pop-music style performance, than studying the music. "Best pianist alive" according to the BBC and the Week - I think they should revise their opinions - he has no virtuoso talent; in fact virtuoso is a gross misrepresentation.

  • lang lang bang banging away...

  • what was the use of going so fast and missing half of the first octave scale???

  • Is this a parody of the original?

  • @doofledorkus OMG your comment is hilarious.

  • kissin is better

  • @johnpogs96

Kissin is different, not better. If you say he is better, explaim us, how is kissin better?

  • @musicioso There are numerous examples. But try comparing Lang Lang's right hand single note scales with Kissin's. Check 0:41 1:34 2:52 3:05 in this video and then listen to Kissin..

Kissin plays them much more pianisticly in the sense that he's interested in playing ALL the notes precisely and evenly. It's plain lack of respect how Lang changes some of the runs to glissandi

  • 4:42

    he has not expected that

  • geniale!! !! ! suonan non per fa figura. sa fare! geniale. e' mozart e' basta. SI kkkk

  • It is quite an exciting performance, I don;t know why people argue about his expressions. It's eccentric, but most people who are gifted are, so who cares is he pulls faces - more for us to enjoy!

  • 1:21 郎朗向全世界粉絲放電

  • better to listen to Lang Lang and NOT watch video. his histrionic mannerisms are nauseating.

  • @junglejim66 Oh,yes...)))You are right! 'NOT watch video"...Sometimes I guess that lang lang remind me ...sorry...monkey with his apelike.Excuse me encore une fois!I like him, especially his freedom and bravery !

  • Kissin is better,of course! I advice to take the notes of this piece and look and listen with attention.Definitely, russian pianist play with nobility and techically more perfect than lang lang.Piano technique is not velocity of fingers, you know...))) ,I hope.
