  • does ur dog ever puke because of this? my rottie does somethin similar and the vet cannot find anything wrong with him at all. done test after test...

  • And she can't stop. Water won't help. Sometimes I will blow in the inside of his/her nose...it sounds disgusting but if you truly love your pet you will do anything.

  • My dog (parti pomeranian) had this last night...does this mean he has asthma he is only 4

  • you have to rube his throte when he does that my dog does that too but he hasnt goten it in a long time

  • This dog is definitely experiencing 'reverse sneezing'. I know that many of you are flipping out over Momma splashing water on the dogs face but she's not too far off base! One tip offered by vets IS to offer food or water to your pet to help shorten the episodes. You should not splash the water in his face though because he can aspirate and cause aspiration pneumonia which can be fatal. I'm so happy to know that the dog was okay.......thanks for the video!

  • @djc0dy--->you are an asshole! And an ignorant one at that! Nobody wants to read hate comments so learn some self control and keep them to your stupid, STUPID self!!!!

  • this used to happen to my dog ALL THE TIME. we never knew what the hell was going on.

  • asthma is not the same as reverse sneezing. RS is harmless and normal, while asthma is.... asthma.

  • OMG Thank you for posting this! My dog has this problem and it totally freaked me out. I'm glad to know it isn't anything dangerous.

  • Also, even if it was asthma, stressing the dog by carrying her around telling her to breathe isn't helping. I have asthma, you could tell me all day to breathe when I'm having an attack and it isn't going to get me to breathe. And I understand English, the dog doesn't. What to do? Stay calm, let it resolve itself and, if it doesn't quickly, you could gently massage the throat or very briefly hold your hand over her nose to redirect the breathing pattern to the mouth. Works with my Beagles!

  • This is NOT an asthma attack! It's called a reverse sneeze and it is harmless, just looks scary. But DO NOT put anything in your dog's mouth when it's happening - not ice, not water, nothing. It's a strong inhalation and she could aspirate. (Get the substance in her lungs, which would be a real problem!) Also, the lady said someone was "causing" her to do it. NOT possible, so don't blame others for it. It's a common occurrence in many breeds, particularly brachycephalic dogs and beagles.

  • Inspiratory paroxysmal respiration (reverse sneezing) is a phenomenon observed in dogs, particularly in those with brachycephalic skulls. i.e. Boston Terriers. Please leave the dog alone if this happens. If you feel the need to intervene, calm it by gently petting it or plug its nostrils and this will force the dog to breathe through the mouth, hopefully ending the episode.

  • Dumb nigger bitch. Nobody shoves water and ice down your throat when you sneeze. Though that might not be a bed idea...

  • This is reverse sneezing. It can be an extremely frightening experience. I suggest a trip to the vet. In the literature, it is explained as not harmful but i would imagine it to be terrifying for the dog. The feeling of not being able to breath is scary. My 5 year old lab has it. I would agree that offering water or ice should probably wait until the dog can "catch it's breath."

  • Really glad you posted this my dog is a yorkie, I just got her and I read an article that said sometimes it may help to cover their nostrils which forces them to take deep breaths through their mouths, and sometimes taking them outside for fresh air helps to, maybe see if that helps, but it is really so scary, good luck.

  • When a dog is having an asthma attack you are not supposed to force them water or ice they obviously cannot even breathe let alone swallowing anything. Also let the poor dog be. During an attack you need to leave them alone without carrying them and "telling" him to breathe. They panic more if you make them nervous.

  • ******TRY DOING THIS!!*****

*Someone had suggested placing your index finger across both nostrils. I have done it a few times and it seems to stop the fit.

*Its not cruel they will just breath through thier mouth.

*They should call it something else, this is NOT an asthma attack.

    *cheers

  • An asthma dog sufferer is relatively rare, but asthma does occur in some dogs. Asthma, also known as allergic bronchitis, is an allergic reaction in which the bronchi (the air passages that go into the lungs) fill with mucous and go into spasms, making it hard to breathe. My pup got this kind of disease. Try don't force him to drink water in this situation since he is hard to breath. Try to massage his back behind his neck or neck and he'll feel better.

  • Thank you so much for posting this. My dog does the same thing and I always figured it'd be asthma but I wasn't really sure But now I know, seeing your dog do the exact same thing my dog does, it brang tears to my eyes, Thank you for making me aware of this.

  • my boston has asthma too. poor things. do you give her anything for it?

  • These people are so useless they don't even take their pet to the Vet. If he/she has asthma it can be very dangerous and need to be diagnosed and treated. Instead you have a bunch of ignorant animal abusers. People like this should not be allowed to have pets. Then this people shoves water in a dogs face when he cnt breath well!?! WTF I'd like to find her and shove her head in the toilet and see how well she breayths. I've met Boston terriers. This is not normal... Your Mom is a useless POS.

  • First of all, i would like to let all of you know that this is reverse sneezing, and has nothing to do with asthma. It also really isn't ENTIRELY about allergies, although allergies can cause post nasal drip...which can cause reverse sneezing attacks. It also does not mean that the dog has a collapsing trachea...the reverse sneeze and cough associated with a collapsing trachea are similar, but to differentiate between the two a radiograph(xray) is necessary.

  • My pug does that too almost every day...

when she is playing with me...

when that happen she just ran around, round and round after that she is okay...

  • when your dog is doing this, it is much better to block their nasal with your fingers, as you sooth and rub their throat. it helps force them to breath through their mouth. I have seen it work.

  • I know what the dog is thinking "stop shoving your hand in my face with water i'm having a damn asthma attack".

  • You are going to kill your dog trying to get him to drink when he is having a reversed sneeze attack. This is caused my a spasm in their throat!!

  • Small dogs do this because they have a calasped trachea. It's common in dogs that wears collars and pulls on them when they go on walks. This can be fatal, so please notify your vet people!

  • It,s called a reverse sneeze.

It's an allergy disorder that many dogs have.

    Experts say that it's harmless.

My Pomeranian does it and she's fine.

They had to give her children's benadryl to ease the allergy.

In case you needed to know.

  • this person is crazy. rubbing water in the dogs face while its having an asthma attack

  • Dude thats my cuz and my aunt you talking bout quit it!

  • ha ha ha thats not funny...specailly when ya post that shit on you tube!!! shame shame on you

  • haha shut up tete

  • @monkeybabe719 This video is helpful to me because the vet told me to video when my dog has these attacks and I can't ever seem to get the video at those times. I can she the vet this video and tell her this is what it looks like.

  • Did you go to the doctor and have this diagnosed? My puppy does the same thing. Hes boxer dalmatian and just by instinct I rubbed his throat and it stopped but now he gets attacks about 5 times a day...

  • No we didnt, my mom thinks because of her "short snout" its normal. she has them on and off, sometimes once or twice a month. but i heard if you plug there nose for a few seconds it goes away

  • its reverse sneezing my dog does the same its very common water will not help it will go straight up the nose they do it when they get excited or drink or anticipate something

  • @tanneal187 thats exactly what i do to mine and it stops
