  • @BansheeMilk ..somehow it's happening on everyday base in my life ..:)

  • Thumbs up if you think of MATT JOHNSON, not Michael Jackson when someone says MJ.

  • Turn it up to 11.

  • ..."Something always goes wrong when things are going right You swallowed your pride To quell the pain inside Someone captured your heart Like a thief in the night And squeezed all the juice out until it ran dry You've been read like an open book Page by page You'll never tell anyone your inner thoughts again You were taken in By a heart of fools gold Now you're drifting in circles In the depths of your soul"...
  • @TBellaDotka A perfect song, right?

  • Może i najważniejszy/najmądrzejszy tekst jaki znam. Powinieneś słuchać swego instynktu, bo on nie mówi ci kłamstw.

On WIE co mówi. Posłuchaj go. Instynktu.

  • matt johnson, not well known but fantastic :-)

  • great song great talent

  • Always loved this album....no official video ever made for Soul Mining?

  • this is probably my favourite the the song. my favourite lyrics of any song and it sounds so subdued..

  • Something always goes wrong when things are going right

  • Breakbeat and E's came and took it all away, ..and then the world changed..no seriously, I wonder, was this music just too clever and intense, cause when the Stone Roses, with their dumbed out chic acidy Happy Mondays and ..that was it for wordsmiths and clever wordy pop like Elvis Costello and this dude. They just got wiped out in a year (88-89). Bands like Primal Scream just went with the trend, hired a technician.

love THE THE FOR 25 JRS

  • As músicas dles são muito boas, mas o nome...THE THE? É estranho mesmo.

  • this guy is utter genius, maestro

  • @msg2urudy - were you as amazed as I was when this was used in the M & M's commercial? I was like "OH NO....."

  • @msg2urudy it's like a reverse kind of alchemy, they take gold and turn it into dirt

I hate advertising companies, I have not seen that ad, but not much surprises me now days lol

  • 1 person should of trusted his/her instincts because he/her is telling a big lie =)

  • @MrBOBBY858 .. yes, it is definitely not raven simone... :)

  • Is the painting of Nina Simone?

  • @Evren1Pasa it's actually raven simone

  • My Youth, Underground movement, Same you'll find, along with other groups. Goto where I first started with Vitamin Z

  • Love this song..Thank God the radio did not over play it and kill it!

  • @Candytender there loss is our gain

  • Genius is right - he did everything on the original release of Soul Mining. I played the LP to death and it is still just a fesh and incredibly produced and mixed as Day 1

  • listen, all your troubles go away, listen and chill :)

  • always loved this , no waste ; )

  • great....just fantastic!

  • The story of my life...chillingly honest and haunting music,Still a fucking brilliant album unto this day. It's totally unique filled with Matt's personality and artistic vision.

  • Beautiful music, with meaning. Lets resurrect The The.

  • Matt Johnson and the geniality of his precious heart.

  • reminds me of a mis-spent youth in Hull - classic

  • good old memories !! tijdloos jeugdsentiment .

  • Wow, I listened to this song probably a million times and had not heard it for maybe 20 years. Reconnects with roots of pain... I am still floating in this little wooden box

  • @LimeyfruitNo3

Something always goes wrong when things are going right!

  • nice one for this. Well written. Matt met god

  • this is as good as it gets - remember this from the time when i got drunk for the first time - 1985?

  • J'ADORE!!!!!!!!!

    GENIAL Matt Johnson Quelle voix!!!!!

  • Awesome, good memories...

  • Gravitate To Me was so emotionally erotic . . . can anyone post it?

  • Like the sun came up and the world had dissapeared!

  • I managed a bar in London a few years ago and had the pleasure of meeting Matt Johnson. I bought him a couple of beers and he was a perfect gentleman, a really nice guy.

  • Yes they do!

  • thanks for posting this...still sounds amazing. I'd forgotten just how great this band/matt johnson was.

  • This takes me back. And wow doesn't it still sound good. BTW, I'd put it on at partys, right at the end when everyones sitting around winding down. Perfect. Thanks for the post.

  • "You've been read like an open book, page by page. You'll never tell anyone your inner thoughts again. You were taken in, by a heart of fools-gold, and now you're drifting in circles in the depth of your soul. Something always goes wrong when things are going right ..."

  • best album the the ever put out. 'this is the day' still my all time favorite song.

  • ive never heard of these guys, i love their name :)

  • snips42 is bang on. Fantastic introspective album, but not a party album (buzzkill) great late night listening. Makes you think about everything. Matt is a genius. His best album bar none.

  • the most under rated album really

  • damn i forgot how good this album is ,dont put it on at parties though

  • Hiroshige20-

I've always felt the same thing when i listen to The The albums. It's kind of timeless really. This could have come out at any point recently and people would have loved it! I'm so glad I got the chance to see him here in Denver a few years ago.

  • shit, now i'm gonna have to go out and look for The The albums, can't believe I let them pass me by when I was growing up. Of course I'd heard of them but hadn't really listened to anything intently, there was just so much goin on back then. Well better later than never, so unbelieveably cool and ahead of his time

  • We use to play this in the locker room during two a day practices for football during my high school years...nice memories..too go back and know what we know now...lol.

  • very kind under the radar, but >>>kme i think that anybody from j.div down to the latest pretender's(including)oasis have had to bow down no matter how secrectly!!!!!!?????

  • One of the most underated artists from the 80's

  • marvelous

  • Never a bad song on any of his albums.

  • Way ahead of his time.

    Artist muscian poet.

Not very many in the CHARTS today. 5 stars

  • he is a bloody genius but wasted on most people. that's the way it goes :(

  • The start of this song sounds very similar to the start of Dazzle Ships by OMD to me.

  • Pedazo de tema. Cuanto tiempo sin escucharlo. Gracias

  • Perhaps the most underated song of 80s. My brother played this one summer and I was hooked. The sound is so pure,

  • I love it.

  • ..bei tempi!!

  • This song makes me want to smoke crack.

    I lub it.

  • hahaha thats one hell of a song

  • yes blast from the past . love it!

  • What else can I say? It can hardly get any better than this. Matt Johnson is a genius!

  • Any idea what he is at now?

  • He just finished a soundtrack for a movie called

"Tony." I keep checking his website, but so far, no news of an actual album coming out. Not surprising, since it's usually several years between each album. They're hard to wait for, but always worth it.

  • mhmmm ilovehim!

  • Comment removed

  • took the words fom my own..ive been waiting for tomorrow all of my life!

  • A trulty great track from one of the best albums ever made. I´ve been listening to this record frequently since 1983 and never get tired of it. In fact its the soundtrack to my god damned life!!

  • Really, this is the best record of the 80s

  • fantastic, only fantastic!!

  • great, great, great - what a pleasure to find them here! Still listen to Dusk on a very old cassette sometimes! Floating down a tunnel....

  • I love this song and its 'chorus' - "Something always goes wrong/when things are going right". I think I know the feeling...

  • i love The The

    classic band, classic music

  • Tey know...

  • one of the best records EVER!

  • Un-fucking-real. Was there anything in the 80's (besides The Feelies) as enduring as this?

  • The cure,The chameleons, the sound, The Comsat Angels, sisters of mercy, the smiths, magazine..........the list goes on!!! The 80's were full of class bands!

  • oh god, was this 83? I suppose it must be, I had this vague and distant memory that it was 86 or 87 but I guess not....

  • I hear he has a smashing tiddler and some wizard balls

  • it´s neneh cherry on the cover illu...

i want to be burried with this record

  • I am a Fan of Matt Johnson, since I bought "Soul Mining" in 1983. Very good music with brilliant lyrics, especially the 12 Inchs were superb.

And it doesn´t sound oldfashioned these days. They don´t make music like these anymore.

If possible, try to listen to the 12 Inch-Version of Soul Mining, which is for me the best song of The The.

  • EXCELLENTE!!!

  • My education

  • one of my all time fav tunes

  • Brilliant absolutely BRILLIANT!

  • Honestly, The The and Matt have some of the
