i do agree, however, that smoking marijuana doesn't leave a person 'impaired' in the same way that alcohol does.

smoke too much pot, and usually the worst thing that happens is you eat a bunch of junk food and go to bed. as you say, most pot smokers KNOW their limits, especially when it's not a good idea to drive.

whereas a drunkard will just get into his car and drive under the influence, putting everyone at risk. and if you try to stop him, he'll probably get violent, because of the alcohol.

I admit it, I don't know how it works, that is part of the DISCUSSION. If someone grows 7 plants, from the same type of seed, used the same fertilizer, etc etc. Wouldn't all the THC through out the product be the same?

And they do have ways to measure potency! So if they sample a small portion of their yield, that would give them a idea..

If the system is faulty, we need to find a way to fix how to measure it!
