This song is a kind of a "beginning of the end" for the MM series' story.

Zero, after separation from purpose, wanders the wartorn planet for years. We see a cloaked figure trudge through a desert. One can tell it's Zero, you can see only his head. W/ sad music, we're told what has happened in the past few years-

Bad stuff.

Footsteps. He throws off his cloak, reveals his frail body ravaged by war and struggle. He's dying, and flees for his life across a desperate land.

Wrong, if you played the Megaman X series flashbacks show that Zero was indeed a sadistic and extremely evil robot hellbent on destruction.

He was latter defeated by Sigma and taken to Dr. Cain to reprogram him as a good Reploid, however...because of Sigma's encounter with Zero, he came infected with the Virus inside Zero's body (see Megaman 8 and "Dark Energy") and became a Maverik himself.

Mega Man 9 was supposed to be a throwback to the NES era but it ended up irritating fans when they remove vertain moves from rock's arsenal. Mega Man Zero 2 was indeed the most well conceived of the Zero series despite the retconning of the Dark Elf.

@OmegaMaxter Mega Man 9 removed the sliding and you had to earn it back considering the fact that Mega Man had been sliding since Mega Man 3 and the chargable Mega Buster also removed in 9. Why did Cacpom do this? I will never know. Mega Man 10 fixed that along with other problems. On the topic of Mega Man zero series, I was refering to how they changed the plot of the games.

@Guergy Well, from 1-8 and x-x8, the main plot remained pretty static, and even stayed within eachother to an extent (if you ever played the oldschool fighting games, you know Zero was originaly made by dr. wily, and dr light made X, not Dr.Cain).

I don't know how well 10 ties in, and i cant remember 9 too well, but i know the .exe series just made me want to cut myself may times over.
