  • Nice fish. I just caught my best on lake Wylie S.C. 02/07/12. 50lbs.+ also released.

  • do you use bobbers or tight line?

  • Great job! That was a tank.indeed. I wish your message of catch and release rang more clear to some people. I've seen people take a huge flathead to get it mounted and after they find out the price, they just toss it in a ditch after it died.

  • Great fish. I'm glad you turned it back.

  • when do u stop hopping for a bigger one... the answer is never.... occasionnaly ive accepted that the fish im putting back in the river might be the biggest ill ever catch... but the river proves me wrong eventually. my biggest cat was in the dark ...footage didnt come out...THE biggest cat ive seen in the saintlawrence river(montreal reigon) even in pictures and videos i havent seen bigger yet....I NEED TO beat this record for some goood footage. lights where about 5mins away.couldnt risk it

  • I would kill to be able to slap a fish that size on the belly. You don't let them go so someone else can catch them, you let them go so they can breed, and there will still be monster cats in 20 years.

  • @InKa4484 im lovin your style my man

  • oh year. verry good

  • thanks for the release mate! nice to see a real angler out there still!

  • @Crackmonkey213 although i enjoy cat fishing, i wouldn't consider it angling because u just drop a line and sit. Also flatheads are legally no supposed to be released after catching them, they are killing off all the game fish dramatically. Which in turns ruins real anglers fun when it comes to bass, trout, etc...

  • @fiendboy i don't know where you fish but i have never heard of it being illegal to release a flathead. and here in kentucky cat fish are just as much of a sports fish as a bass

  • @KENTUCKYOUTDOORSMAN1 I'm from Pennsylvania. That's our state regulation for flatheads.

  • @KENTUCKYOUTDOORSMAN1 They are in Iowa too.

  • @KENTUCKYOUTDOORSMAN1 He's an idiot that doesn't even realize that flatheads are native to Kentucky, I live in PA where they are only native to the western part of the state. When they started turning up in some of the eastern rivers the fish commission was telling people to kill for fear that they would negatively impact other non-native game fish like smallmouths and walleyes, but now that they are well-established, the fish commission has rescinded that recommendation.

  • @fiendboy Land yourself a 50lb flathead or Blue, and tell me it's not angling.

  • wow, got a big o'belly. nice,

  • Nice catch!!! Thanks for turning that beautiful fish go guys. Ya'll are good people!

  • what type of reel is that ?

  • and that's a surge rod right?

  • NICE CAT! what river you catch that from?

  • great release! i only have kept one flat in my life a little 4lber worst mistake ever, have not caught one since!

  • I would have eaten that one guys! Around here there are plenty of flathead, and bluecat! Come on down to Arkansas to catch some monsters!

  • nice fish

  • I HAVE SEEN THEM BIGGER THAN THAT IN GUNTERSVILLE ALABAMA

  • When I was only 8 I caught a 25 pound 40 incher we kept it then put it in a pond were he still lives today

  • i dont know what these guys are sayin about keeping these big flatheads im from kentucky and have caught my share of flatheads. they are no good to eat at all if you want tough meat, then be my guest

  • WTF!!! Where I come from if u catch a flathead like that u have a fish fry and invite the neighbors

  • what rod is that?

  • the best bait for any kind of ctafish is chicken intestines

  • @alia6818383 Nah, not flatheads....or parieba....they are agrresive...im not saying u couldnt catch em on it... but bluegills and bullhead work best for the predatory cats.

  • very nice flathead!! my pb is 47in. 60lbs i caught out of the pee dee river in north carolina! awsome video, gotta love them flatheads!! nice to see others CPR also!! i catch most of mine on large live bluegills! mine was caught 5-9-09 at 5:20am talkn bout waking your ass up!! that did it!! and far as them being an invasive species goes, the other fish just need to learn how to swim faster!! :-)

  • best part is at 4:12 so just skip to there nice fish guys

  • This is an invasive species and is doing a lot of harm to the native fish in the United States. You should have "fried 'em up," as others were saying.

  • @rackball9 Flatheads are native in almost the entire Mississippi River drainage. They have become an invasive species in the Atlantic drainage and parts of the west, but they're native to Minnesota.

  • @aewolf420

Ahh, thanks for the correction, I had no idea. I am from the Susquehanna river region, so that is why I always hear of these being invasive.

  • fillet that bitch up, flatheads are good no matter how big

  • Aww, it's so awesome how u let him go! <3 I respect u guys,

  • Is that still your PB?

  • @thizzrdie4200

    It sure is....but I'm trying :)

  • Wow, really great Catfish have you caught there

  • Really big !

  • these big ones are tasty

  • let him go!!!?i would have fried his ass!!!

  • Great Catch! Nice of you to let it Go. :)

  • did u say that u sued a bullhead as bait?

  • @jmialma09

    Yes

  • @jmialma09 whats the best way to catch bullheads?

  • dont u guyz work at marineland in onalaska?

  • what did u catch it with?

  • That is a large fish and the last time I saw some that large was taken on Trout Lines and were cooked at the lake in a Cast Iron Pot. There were delicious too. I couldn't fish at night in the summer time due to the Snakes we have here. Moon Shoot Lake near Lake Village, Arkansas has so many Catfish that size and larger, but there are Snakes there larger than a door is tall.

  • 94coupe v6 man i would be eatin that sucker

  • @flippintheweeds ud put it in ur mouh and spit it out

  • go to warsaw missouri theres are catfish that get up to 750 pounds you should go there catch one a put it on youtube :)

    PWEEASE :D

  • dats a nice cat, CPR:)

  • I wish more people watched how you guys handle fish. It makes me sick seeing people keep trophy sized fish. They aren't good to eat, the people are just being greedy and selfish. Good work guys!

I've heard rumors of people catching nice sized flathead on the Clarion River in Pennsylvania but I'm not sure. I've never caught one, but we catch a ton of channel cats. Good fishing

  • I'm going fishing sometime soon on the Minnesota near Fort Snelling. Does anyone have any recommendations for bait and "Hot Spots"?

  • dang nice fish

  • nice catfish! me & my dad catch them like that all the time here in michigan @ lower st joseph river & lower kalamazoo river

  • this guy should of kept it these are really good eatin

  • @longschlong666 big ones taste nasty

  • Nice job boys!

  • sweet good job

  • Thats a beautiful fish, what kind of rig did you use?

  • your total care of that yellow cat was great, you are a great demonstration on how to protect mega yellowcats

  • i like your guys style! CPR! beautiful fish

  • Nothing better then catching the big one on the line and on video so you can relive it over and over knowing someone will get to enjoy that same feeling! great vid guys!

  • That things HUGE! I just caught a 10lbs Bullhead and I thought that was big.

  • @MRYesack lol when i was 10 i cought a 3 lb bull head and i thought that was big! lmao

  • naw wouldnt have let it go. that was a lot of filets!

  • thanks for the response. Can't wait for Cat fishin time. Ready for the 100 pounder. Should have the videos of our fish on soon. need a cable to download onto computer.

  • Nice Cat! Good approach with catch and release. I've caught the same cats multiple times in the same spot so let'm go to grow and catch them again. Right on with the size. my biggest was:

    50"x34" 65-70 lbs. It's on youtube:Enter

    The Fat Cat club

    it's 4 min 33 sec

Wisconsin Mississippi Fish Almost had the record

  • yum. that would of made great steaks for me and my family. i love eating the bigger ones. better tasting and more meat for my big family and we don't waste fish either.

  • Really good sportsmanship on the catch/revive/release there. Never heard of using bullhead for bait. Down here in Texas a good 3 or 4 inch sunfish is the hot ticket. Fish with worms off the dock during the day and drop them in a custom made livewell (plastic trash can with holes drilled in it down low) . Wait till dark and then go get em.

  • nice catch, biggest ive caught is only 25... but i can sure catch big channel cats

  • I wonder how old that fish is

  • COOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • which river?

  • Very nice Flathead..my uncle caught a 88 pounder like 4 years ago..it was bigger than my 10 year old sister lol..took him like an hour and a half to reel in cuz it kept pulling like lol...nice catch though..keep em comin =)

  • thats hilarious its also quite bigger than my 7 year old brother

  • Awsome fish man, how big was the hook you used.

  • i love these guys videos. my biggest fish to date is a 35 lb flathead out of a paylake

  • i caught that same fish lol, well obviously not the same but it was a 57 pound flathead that i cought out of the neosho river in kansas on a 1 pound bluegill it was huge!!! great catch

  • The Neosho's a heckuva river for flatheads, ever fish the Wakurusa? That's where I've had the best luck for flatties, besides the Kaw. Marais De Cygne is AWESOME too.

  • no never fished any of them, u talkin bout the neosho that runs through kansas/

    ?

  • yep, the wakurusa feeds clinton lake, and runs out of it too, if you're ever up near lawrence/topeka I highly suggest givin' it a shot, LOTS of big cats in that river, the Clinton lake spillway is a really good spot to go too.

  • if i was still in ks i definately would but right now my mom is working a job in pheonix az, it sucks no water anywhere, cant wait to get back there. i used to live in yates center and emporia the cottonwood river runs through emporia that also is a good river for big cats

  • Can anyone guest what Reel he was using?I would really like to know.

  • I could be wrong, but it looks like a Cabelas reel, I have one that looks just like that, great reel by the way, especially the model with the bait runner feature.

  • The reel looked like a Phlueger, an the rod looked like a Shaekspear

  • i feel so bad, in nebraska i caught a 75 lbs blue cat and we brougth it home to check if it was a state record cuz it was so massive but the next day when we went to release her she died in the river :(

  • thanks for releasing that beauty! I hope more people start practicing c&r on the trophies like that, AWESOME flattie

  • Absolutely beautiful! Great Catch guys!!!

  • The best part of this whole video is when ya let her go! My Grandpa would be proud of you guys!!!

    Thanks for sharing

  • @dladeburg im sry i would eat it but thats just me

  • @dladeburg True that. Big Cats like that will go a long way towards keeping a water body populated. I usually throw back everything over 10 pounds.

  • nice catch and cool of you to catch and release!

  • hey nice catfish what did you use for bait, to catch it

  • read the description

  • dude awesome fish that thing is a pig! good job on the release its nice to see someone else who releases the big ones. Congrats!

  • what size fishing pole were you using ?

  • My biggest was 50

  • I think they can reach that large.

  • That's nice. 7lbs bigger than my biggest. They graw fairly fast. The world record is 123. Some accounts say they can get up to 150 or more, but I don't know.

  • thats one monster

  • Comment removed

  • Looks like 65 pound test power pro to me but thats just a guess.

  • 80lb Sufix

  • Well I was a bit off. I use 65lb power pro but is Sufix good?

  • i just caught a 42 lb flathead 2 weeks ago on a bass rod and 10lb test line. (i was fishing for some little channels and caught a beast. they are a great fish to catch. very nice one you had there.

  • That's awesome

  • Great job! Nice fish, nice release. That's what it's all about.

  • hey i live in belle plain MN i go cat fishing all the time ware do you fish

  • When he started thrashing, his tail came down sharply and he racked the hell out of me. I let him go after a bad nut smacking but I wish I had held on. However, at the time, I didn't have the nuts. My dad told me that was a real bruiser and he called me a puss for letting him go. Noodling doesn't scare me anymore, and when I look back, I don't regret the opportunity or the challenge because i'm better for it. Good catch and release, but try it with your hands.

  • I got my first tangle with a flathead in the Caney river in Oklahoma. I was noodling and it was something I had never done before. Some guys strung a 69 pound beast ten minutes before I got a hold of one and, i'm telling you, the fight was insane. I reached under a big rock and was wondering if a water moccassin would bite me but it was a huge flathead. It felt like I got hit in the knuckles with a hammer and I just held on. I came up on my back and he was caught between my legs thashing.

  • Darren I love hearing about your big fish because I know you are responsible and will release them and properly at that. Now you just need one like this to pass me in KOTC!

    -Jeff W

  • Thanks Bud :)

  • if more people was like this and would put the nice ones that will never be replaced in our lifetime back alot of water would be a whole lot better fishing like it was back when our fathers were kids... thats a nice ass shovelhead good job : ) not to minchin its mighty white of you to release it back so five stars for this vid everyone and im adding this to my favorites just for that reason

  • yeah unless its a record don't keep

  • it sounded like your rock was about to snap

  • that flathead will probably be in the same spot come time next year. Like the saying goes- it's not summer until somebody catches clyde.

  • awesome catfish! It's nice to see there are other people out there supporting catch and release!

  • cool man like 2 see u let that big daddy go good job man make more vids

  • Nice to see some ethical fishing!

  • where did u get the bull catfish?

  • Bullhead are very common, it's very easy to catch yourself, as I've never seen them in a bait shop. Likely more economical as well. You'll find them in small streams in the thick of log-jams and similar cover.

  • i went fishing the other day caught a fish half that size and i was happy

    nice fish

    make more vids

  • good job check my stuff up i gottta get more on there

  • i want to say gratz on the fish and thanks for letting the fish go that you catch it helps the population and let's other people have a chance to have the same rush and excitement as you did that night

  • what was u using as bait?

  • apparently a bull cat, probably live

  • Nice flathead Good job by both camera men. :) I just posted a video response with my biggest. Let'em go is right. I use small bream or warmouth

  • i went usin jugs today caught 2 15 pound 1 blue cat 1 white cat

  • Nice Cat

  • Nice fish man, my biggest and only flathead cat was 6 1/2 pounds and I thought that bugger was big haha. I can imagine that fight!

  • Nice bullhead. I have been fishing since I was 6 years old. I also practice catch and release. Good job Darren! More people need to practice catch and release.

  • lol i catch flatheads all the time... never seen one more than a pound

  • you aint never caught any flathead in florida then !!

  • Haha Man you are cool

  • We snagged 2 40lb'rs the other night.

  • hey what did you use to catch it?

  • WTF y n the hell would u let that fish go u could have had a nice fish fry from that

  • Nice fish and Great release! My personal best on rod and reel is 33 pounds. I was by myself so I didnt get the catch on film but my wife met me at the boat ramp to film the release. Putting those trophy fish back in the water is what its all about. Give someone else a chance to catch a trophy or maybe catch him again yourself when he has gained 10-20 pounds.

  • hey wat were you using for bait cuz i use bluegills and sometimes shad but only catch 30 pounders and i want to catch a big one like that so wat you using??

  • they use live bullhead catfish.

  • hey do blue gill work good?

  • just as good as any thing else, that or bullheads are some of the best.

  • don`t eat big fish, they have a ton of mercury!!!

  • That's not a catfish. It's a small shark!

    methodistgirl

  • NO!!!!!!!! That is a catfish DAMMIT!!!!!

  • I thought I would say that to be funny.

I used to like to fish until I had an

accident and my husband was on the

other side of the lake when I needed

    him. Kentucky has big catfish.

    methodistgirl

  • but big fish like that aren't good to eat, they have a muddy flavor,5 and 6 pounders taste the best.

  • i beg to differ, it must be the river you fish in. here in va i cant tell the diff. between a 40 pounder and a 4 pounder. they are all good.

  • techinally i ont know im operating on things ive read, and i read a lot.

  • 2-3 pounders are indeed the best, when it comes to a channel cat or a blue cat. A flathead is good at any weight in my opinion, or at least up to 32lb. (my best yet). flathead are very lean compared to channel and blue. All this talk of fishin got me ready to go lol.

  • Aren't Catfish Prehistoric?

  • Aww Damn thats what I get for Commenting before I see the whole video. That is okay to let him go, but I'm just saying. I'm a hungry feller and thats a lot of meat. I probably would clean, cook, and eat him up..

  • So did he swallow the hook? for some reason all of the big ones I catch seem to swallow the hook. only real way to get it out without killing them in to cut the line, even so you might as well clean them right there at the lake. so did you eat him. how did he taste? they are always better if you soak the meat in saltwater over night in the fridge, but I usually clean cook and eat mine right at the lake!

  • use circle hooks, they slide up and hook the fish in the mouth instead of the throat :)

  • Lol I usually use a sponged Treble Hook and Sonnys Catfish Dip Bait, That's where I've had the most luck with them not swallowing. The bait I mean.. LMFAO nevermind!

  • Just to think, I was fishing with these guys a week or so before! We where in BA's boat!

This video does not get old!!

  • That's a good fish. . congrats on your PB!

  • Darren I got the itch and was browsing some flathead videos trying to stem my addiction, and lo and behold I stumble upon one of your videos! What a beautiful fish! I was surprised to see you using a spinning reel, couldn't quite make out the model though ...

  • Nice Flathead! Congrats on releasing that beatiful fish.

  • Nice bro :)

  • Good Sportsmanship

  • dude you need to give me tips on catching them flattys. i never caught one im just now started my biggest so far is an 11lb blue. i just started fishing paylakes and i just got my first baitcasters so write me back if u can

  • well i can tell you one thing flatheads feed almost exclusively on live fish. :)

  • Nice catch and release. Awsome video.

  • my biggest flathead was a 60 pounder on stink bait in south dakota
