i was thinking 'poor boy in blue t shirt, he will be gone to hospital after this demo' ..... but..... OMFG he's Ron Balicky!!! i'm extremely sorry sifu. now i'm going to do my 200 push up for punishment
shooto is awesome, i learned all ten combos back in early 90;s, the system is great and was ahead of its time with the great stand up. I love bjj as well, but shooto guys like rumina sato are awesoem to watch fight. I love the old combat wrestling tourneys as well. Thx for sharing the vid, we never did the triangle to juji and takedown part at the end in our combo 1. Its great to watch, thx
Ah, the early days of grappling, when no one knew what the hell the guard was, SHOOTO has pillows for gloves, and it seemed JKD/SHOOTO was going to be a big combat sport before MMA was born.
@Ronbalicki Hmmmm I would never say that wor Ron, if you stopped talking to me who could I rely on for a 'lift' out the club lol You're looking well..... good hehe ;) x
It's a demo, I deliver an attack and then he shows a counter. I know for a fact that if you were to stand in front of Yori that you would do as I did, prepare to tap. He is simply that good.
yeah you probably wouldn't enjoy fighting him lol.
but I'm a lot better than you think. I fight people close to this guy's skill. I loose to them, but I sure as hell love the fight. I live to fight good fighters.

Surely there is a hypocracy here from Nakamura who also professes to teach JKD. If he was to enter with the kicking techniques he's useing on this clip surely a good JKD player would have broke his leg obstructing him.
What's your problem? How come are you so sure about a good JKD player would've broke his leg? Here, Nakamura merely demonstrates a portion of techniques for shooto competition. There's no hypocracy at all.
@verner99 Metal detector, incarceration, Airport, courtroom, hospital, random search in certain areas...in these situations, there will be no .45 I'd rather have some extra options and mastery over my body.
JKD is not a style it's a philosophy, so it can not be measured in the same way as Shoot, which is a style. One can not apply Shoot to JKD, but rather one may apply JKD to Shoot.

I think I'd LEARN from him for about 10 years, THEN maybe see if he wants to fight. MAYBE.

I like that most of this is him playing with his student. You can see things pretty clearly, and I'm not even a ground fighter.

Oh ok, just be sure not to get him get you in that neck crank with his legs like at 6:35 that seems fucked up

lol hellz ya, if he got me in that, I would tap as fast as i could, and pray that he would feel sorry for me and let me go :P

yeah that is a clock head scissors, a great move for when you cannot get the chicken wing, then you go to the clock head scissors.

Bruce would've been happy about this I think. No range of fighting is ignored and the techniques are practical. Very nice.
