Without Les Paul Bt couldn't do ANYTHING that he does now. Every musician on the planet owes their livelihood to Les Paul and if purport to know anything at all about music then you owe it to yourself to know who that man is and worship him. Do a little research and prepare to have your mind blown away by the genius of Les Paul.
Ok, checked him out and true he probably inspired MANY artists, and in turn im sure MANY artists couldnt do what they do now if it were not for Les Paul. But I dont think sampling out a song that inspires to show off a piece of software really makes bt un-original or relying on the talent of others. Bt has made his own music and innovations, maybe YOU should research BT?
Hes demonstrating the capabilities of Ableton, using a track thats in the wrong key and changing it to match the song you are mixing is something you cant do with turntables without changing the tempo of the song.
Gotta do what ya gotta do, ive done similar when a track hits a point where I am not familiar with it, ill just stutter and add one some effects to totally F it up, then jump to something i do know that sounds good lol!
I remember the first time watching this, such a delightful explosion of sonic science! I really appreciate how it gets effected and all warped, yet not to the point of being unlistenable (as often is a fault when trying to share "glitch" music with the uninitiated).
Something about us Maryland boys ... outcasts in public school because we would rather spend our time circuit bending our speak n' spells than become super jock tards. Then to think we make music with electrons and protons after years of growing up in bumfuk nowhere listening to the tree frogs in the summertime and saying hey ... theres a symphonic movement in that.
Brian is the man ... we musta drank the same water.
It seems like the stutter edit actually controlled the pace of the song too, since it seemed off a little for just a moment and then he re-adjusted to match the main drum beat.
nope, just the stutters, he's remixing on the fly. It controls note values anywhere from say 8th notes down to unreal 256th. You can see the entire video here --> http://www.btmusic.com/board/viewtopic.php?t=181&highlight=eyeris and read what I've copied from somethings written about it.
The actual stutter edit plugin he said he developed himself, and possibly the light control too. Would seem like it kinda works like a thereman device, distance of your hand from the base changes how fast sample repeats, how fast you move your hand might control how many repeats.... i dont know, i wanna pick his brain lol!
@Frozencellmate Are you referring to the equipment he's using? I tried looking it up but couldn't find anything. I'd love to see what it is and how it works. Do you think he built it himself?
the IR controller is a XYZ axis controller that looks like it is setup through a quad loop port through midi and is being recognized by either a granulizer or a chopper plugin. It is prolly preset to each axis to give a specific callibration to the bpm or is simply synced.
To be honest, I didn't see anything even remotely impressive about this... I've seen better stuff from other ableton users. The stuttering and glitchy sounds were all done by a plugin -- DestroFX's Buffer Override can do EXACTLY what he's doing there... and the rest was pretty boring imo... nothing that really took any more skill than just knowing the basics about your software and equipment
Yeah, i use Ableton also, and can definitely pick apart HOW he did it. But its still a pretty slick little set, plus im not the one standing up and demonstrating the program at the audio festival. So yeah, i guess i just have respect for the artist, whatever.

Les Paul beat him to it over 50 years ago and had the ability to make his own music to mix rather than rely on the talents of others.

I dont know who Les Paul is, so i dont really care. Bt makes plenty of his own music as well.
