the reason it is near impossible to prove is because the giant quid,kraken or whatever you want to call it has no bones it is held together bye water pressure so it would fall apart even before it hits the surface. that is why no one has seen it alive. but i do believe that it could exhist, there is still alot we don't know about earth and the oceans holds more mystery than even space.

I have actualy read about once a big squid attacked a smaller sail ship in the old times but as they tried to pull it onboard the squid fell into pieces an fell back into the water an in modern time it have happend again but the ship was made of metal :P

the kraken doesn't exist, but the monster quest team caught a 108 footer on camera. it's estimated that it's arms if that's what you call em were like 1-2 feet in diameter.

Width or length? It's on speculation that they can get bigger, because thus far all we've seen are squids around 30-40 feet in length (including tentacles) If you're referring to the Colossal squid, those can't grow as long as the Giant squid, however their body can reach huge sizes in width, rivaling an elephant. (again more speculation as these creatures are rarely ever recorded.)

Yeah, the Kraken does exist. However, with modern science and technology, we now know that they don't get to be ginormously huge, they're typically reclusive creatures, and we no longer call them "Kraken" we now call them the simple name IE Giant Squid, or its scientific name IE Archetieuthis. it could easily excist,it is estimated that giant squid can grow up to 10 meters but i guess that the kracken was a collosul squid or known as a Antarctic cranch squid which can grow up to 14 meters and that is the length of the shortest specimen,but the crews on the ships were just excaderating the size

I think that though the myth of the Kraken may have been based upon the giant squid, it would be impossible of any giant squid to attack a boat. A squid's body is so fragile that is held together by the immense water pressure that exists in the deep sea. Without this (for instance when fishing boats drag squids to the surface) the squid slowly but surely dies.

The squid don't die because the water pressure stops holding their bodies together, or whatever your trying to say. It has to do with the water pressure though. It's just like humans, if you go down so far, you have to come back up in intervals, or you get the bends, which can lead to death. The squid is the same way, they live so far down in the water, that bringing them up in trawls, kills them from the gas bubbles that form.

Of course there exist some big ass squids, but the stories of them dragging down ships into the deep, is bullshit.. And even a squid of 20 meters would not be able to drag down a sea-worthy boat with just it's tentacles.. Maybe when it was caught in a net of a small fisherboat, then maybe it's weight would drag it down... But not on purpose

The real squid photo shown in 1:30s was indeed from a film taken off the coast of Japan. While the squid was large, I think a lot of people would be disappointed if they knew its actual size. It was on a table, and its body was about the size of an adult human. Large, to be sure, but hardly storybook, awe-inspiring size. Many much-larger squids have been caught or found dead, washed up.

The Kraken really is the "exaggeration" of a giant squid. Don't confuse giant squids with colossal squids. Giant squids have longer tentacles. So in any case, the giant squid is real and it technically is a "kraken"
