@katieducky23, I had about a teaspoonful of glue on during this demo. I sprnkled powder till it "cured" then did another layer. The second layer requires great care or it will get all lumpy. Spritzing on borax dissolved in water in a sprayer may be easier.

@katieducky23 :Depends on the mixture and how oily or sweaty your skin gets. Also, some areas of skin flex more than others so it comes off faster if you stretch it around more.

Actually it's white. The phrase "Black Powder", of course, is often used for gunpowder which could easily cause wounds if ignited on the skin. But they would be real!

You can use just glue but it takes longer to set up and it doesn't last as long cuz it hardens. Rub a spoonful of glue between your hands for about 3 to 5 minutes and it will begin to solidify into a gooey waxy sticky paste which can be applied to make warts or scars, etc. Like rolling play-dough into the shape of a snake! Then stick it on like a scar. Add staples or stitches to improve the effect,

Depends on size and thickness you want. Sometimes it helps to thin the glue with water, Smear some glue on in a thin layer then sprinkle some borax onto it. When the glue solidifies brush off the excess powder and add more layers as you like. Any glue that goes onto a powdered area will solidify immediately from the bottom up so it takes practice to put it on smoothly, You can add foundation makeup on top as a final layer. You can also use food coloring in the glue before applying,

Here's the weird part... although that was fake, I had a little mishap in the lab the other day and now IT REALLY HAPPENED TO ME!!!! The same hand had a piece of plexiglas shot into it during an explosion. My practice with fake injuries made the real experience much less traumatic.

My pleasure. To make the "skin" thicker remember to apply in layers (smear-glue,sprinkle-powder, repeat). It takes practice to keep it from gumming up as you apply it. Good luck with your movie.

True. But this was to show how to do it if you don't have latex. Elmers glue and Borax are available in more grocery stores or hardware stores than latex. This was one part of an hour-long program with tons of similar shortcuts. Each designed to help amateurs achieve professional results.

There's a brand called 20 Mule Team Borax Laundry Booster -- you can find it near the laundry soap or cleaning supplies in the grocery store.  Not only can you make fake skin with it, it is GREAT for cleaning sinks, tubs, and all kinds of household messes. I LOVE Borax, I swear by it. It rules!

Why didn't you make a step by step video so people see exactly what you are doing with the glue and foundation and everything? There's a guy on here who made a video where he puts makeup on himself to show a half-skull going on, and it was very informative. This one I couldn't understand and didn't pay attention to what was being said since all you did was move the plastic around constantly.
