  • I heard this guy for this first time just a few minutes ago (Dreams to Remember) and I was FLOORED. I had to check him out on Youtube, and I was surprised he was a white guy (no offense, I'm a white blues-based singer, too!). HOW DID I MISS THIS TIL NOW? What an amazing talent. Anyway, thanks for posting.

  • I rarely get any braggin rights but here's one for real...Back in Okc, Don and I worked for a husband and wife team...the band was called ---"Leen 2 Plus 2"...Don and I were the "Plus 2" and John and Tammy Leen were the "Leen 2". We had a great time playing and Don was easy goin, a master of his instrument and just a lot of fun to work with. We were all thrilled when he got the call to join up with Delbert. You Rock the House Don...Warren said this~

  • @djp96 We can't help it... Delbert is AWESOME

  • You gotta love Delbert, he's a unique talent and ultra cool. I just came from watching videos of another of my favorites, Eric Clapton. Can you imagine a jam session with these two?

  • Delbert McClinton is coming to Snoqualmie Casino,WA on July 23,2010!! For a safe reliable transportation call Green Cab Company with an all hybrid fleet.

    Call (206)575-4040

  • He's the most amazing singer ever, IMO. I named my cat after him, I'm serious.

  • I LOVE Delbert Mc Clinton's music. I saw him in person; I was so happy I cried. Most of his fans are a different demographic and are shocked that someone 29-ish and female could like his music, but I prove them wrong.

  • I definitely need more cowbell!!!

  • More cowbell!

  • I saw Delbert and his band three weeks ago at Mohegan Sun and he is as good as ever.............Thanks to Imus for introducing him to me years ago with his appearances on WFAN

  • You got that right!!

  • fabulous delbert. one of the funkiest souls around.

  • Love the great band, Delbert's awesome voice, and that funky groove!

  • I'm an ol' man....way past 60....grew up listening to and going to see Delbert...and yes I feel sorry for people who didn't get to see the evolution of music, like people of my age have........from the 40's through today.........but..."The Beat" does go on....and on..and......

  • thanks for the pity eydie57, thankfully I'm into this style of music and I say to hell with "rap" too

  • @jrox007 sorry. i should have said i feel sorry for kids today who did not grow up in this era. thank god there are young people like you with good taste. you're rare, though.

  • you know what is awesome about 70's music? the top 40 charts might have a bluesy song like this great one, a stevie wonder song, a donny osmond song, a country crossover, a novelty song... in other words, the charts were one big melting pot, so as a youngster i was introduced to many genres just by listening to the radio. nowadays it's the same cookie cutter stuff and most of it is crap. i really feel sorry for young people of today.

  • i said evathang!

  • More cowbell!!!!

  • awesome

  • My man, You da shiznit dawg!

  • Thanks for sharing my twisted humor..I was afraid no one would get it. If u like Delbert, check out the groove council's cover of "Shaky Ground" awesome.

  • Does anyone else notice he looks just like Jim Jones?? Awesome performance but do NOT drink the Kool-Aid,

  • LOL

  • he does indeed!

  • I think he kinda looks like roddy piper from WWe wrassling.

  • Love Delbert! Love his music!

  • is that the marshall tucker band with him there?

  • and ur one dumb fuck

  • mooore cowbell!

  • I became a Delbert fan in the late 70s when a friend in high school introduced me to his music. I've seen him live 3 or 4 times and it is always a great show. The man is an institution. This is one of my favorite songs of his too...needs more cowbell though. ;-)

  • saw delbert at cape cod tent..best i've been to..like being in a texas bar..goatman

  • Delbert taught John Lennon how to play the harmonica.

  • influenced him but didnt actually teach him

  • this guy's been around, i've seen pictures of him with the beatles as early as 1963..probably toured england... peace

  • Definitely! It would be great if the studio version of this song were posted.

  • Well I can under stand wanting to hear the studio version but..... anyone who has seen Delbert live I think will tell you live beats studio on every song you will find here. In fact an 8 minute version of this song is one here somewhere and Don Wise does some sax work that is amazing. He lays it down durring the song and the blows a solo for about 2 minutes. Delbert is signing things at that point. If you look in my favorites it is there.

  • I did check, and found it. About you telling me understanding wanting to hear the studio version, some other people feel the same way, as well.

  • this is the first time ive ever seen this guy...holy shit what a great song, A++++

  • The first time I ever heard of Delbert was in about 1995 when I won tickets to his concert. I have been hooked on his music ever since! If you have never seen him live you have to go when he plays in your area.

  • none better

  • Del rocks....my toes were tappin.....I have seen him 3 times.....he is great

  • this concert was what turned me on to Delbert - can't count the times i've seen him - he's GREAT. To NilNada - Donnie Wise is on sax

  • Would make sense when she was in her 30's Delbert was playing Texas road houses regularly with all types of bands. That is what he attributes his wide range of styles to, his early age 15 playing with everything from Suuny Boy williams to Bob Wills style bands.

  • Love Delbert McClinton's music!!!

    Excellent video!!!

  • i waz ther

  • I saw this cat at The Grand Emporium in Kansas City. Man he can rock and sing the blues too. It was awesome. I don't think anyone in the whole place sat down during the entire show. WOW!

  • It needs more cowbell.............

  • this video, and song, is great. i have come back to it often over a year. .....btw, anyone else think delbert looks a little like Adam West here (TV's Batman)?

  • Comment removed

  • DAMN what a throw down!! GREAT!!

  • more cowbell.

  • Is that Larry Lange on bass and Ed Vizard on sax??

  • I love Delbert's music. BTW, does anyone think that he resembles Charleston Heston (if Chuck had a different hair style and when he was younger, obviously). I think it's the eyes and bone structure in the face.

  • Always love to hear Delbert!!

    Fantastic.

thank you. the video is excellent.

    10 stars

  • What a great song!! Delbert looks so young, WOW!!!!

He then took the time after a very long set to meet and sign autographs for his fans!! My granddaughter got a great photo with him!! Thanks for posting ...wonderful song! Peace!

  • I first saw Delbert at the "old Soap Creek"

It was Great1 Dancing to his music on the slanted floor in the late 70's. He's still one of my favorites!

I have him on LP's and LOVE getting them out.

Michael Martin Murphy is another of my favorites.

Keep playing and making the people dance!!!

  • I wonder when this song came out? I had it on a K-Tel 8-Track tape when i was a kid in the late 70s/early 80s and my Gramma used to let me play it in her big silver 78 Lincoln Town Coupe. She liked this song so that why she let me play my tape in her car. I can still hear the tape player click when it changed tracks.

  • It came out in 1980 and was a #1 on the Hot 100 Billboard chart for 6 weeks. Hi only #1 but he deserves many more!

  • Hi - my mother was born in 1920 outside of Shreveport, La - she liked Delbert, said he reminded her of Texas roadhouse music she enjoyed as a girl

  • more cowbell!!!!! just discovered two albums the rhythm and the blues and honky tonk and blues that have him doing old r and b tunes like lipstick powder and paint, just a little bit and a kickin version of please please that put james brown to shame. this is the stuff i love, not so much the country flavored but heck he can do anything. met him in the 80's and have been on the delbert train every since.

  • Great song! Saw Delbert last night in New Orleans House of Blues. Great show!

  • Good post rspaceball.

  • an American oiginal !! one of a kind he makes his living from fans like me...

    keep rockin delbert!!!

  • NICE!

  • Thanks for posting this. I obviously missed this on Austin City Limits. I watch it when I can but not religiously. Does anyone have Delbert and Bonnie Raitt singing Good Man/Good Woman?

  • I love Delbert's stuff & he is as good as Eric Burdon on that cow bell.....

  • he lives in nashville.

his daughter goes to my school.

  • Where does Delbert live ? Thanks for sharing.

  • we love delbert in the carolinas wahooooo

  • Love Delbert's version of Jealous Kind by Bobby Charles. Used to play this song at my weekly BBQs -- over and over again. Great stuff and great days.

  • just great music

  • The best venue on God's green earth, some of the best performances ever.

  • Delbert...we had a really good time!

  • John Lennon was indeed influenced by Delbert's harmonica playing on Bruce Channel's hit "Hey Baby",and although a popular misconception did not teach him to play.

  • still my fav delbert ditty. love his accent when he sings"come back here come here real quick". not here but HE-AH. saw him many times back in the day and just recently. still as hot as ever.

  • Delberts voice is like fine wine. He just sounds better every year. This is pretty old, but he's still awesome. I've seen him about 30 times, and went on the Blues Cruise about 13 years ago. That was the best time I ever had. Five days of Delbert, Asleep at the Wheel, Marcia Ball, Jimmy Hall, and many others.

  • this is kick ass, thanks so much!, i could listen to him over and over, would love to see him live.

  • I saw Delbert at the Bayfront Blues Fest in Duluth MN back in '94 and he was awesome! I really love what he does...

  • crazy shit i have same friggin name lol

  • Del!

Lettting it go, baby; fucking grooving on the highest order!

  • Delbert has such a great voice--does anyone have video of him on harmonica? If so, please post. I discovered him on Austin City Limits about 15 (or more) years ago and have introduced his music to many friends and family.

  • Interesting bit of trivia: It was Delbert McClinton who taught John Lennon to play the harmonica :)

I'll see if I can find it for u :-)

  • Delbert is Awesome. More Cowbell!

In regards to browningpgc request for the song with lipstick in it, its called "Lipstick Traces" and it was the first song I ever heard by Delbert too and got me hooked years ago!

  • Good one! Thanks! I'm still looking for a song he recorded about 25 years ago -- and all I can remember is "Lipstick." First time I ever heard Delbert McClinton.

    Pat B.

    Yukon, OK

  • lipstick, powder and paint the song?

  • That's the one! Thanks!

    PatB.

  • that is a big joe turner song and delbert does it real justice. it is on several albums and you can just hear the joy in his voice. the song that really knocked me out was his rendition of "please, please, please". he has a very different vibe with all respect to james brown.his version was every bit as good in his own way, lots of soul. his own spin on it. it is on "honky tonk and blues" and other albums. check it out. just proves the point that delbert can do anything.

  • McClinton has one of the great voices in American music and possesses a 'cool' which few performers naturally have.

  • Makes me want to dance !!!

    lol feels good. Great song.

  • Yeah this is really good

  • Gotta love Delbert... great vid... thanks for posting!!

  • I am amazed that nobody has posted "I'm with you". There must be someone that has it. If nothing else, please put up the audio.

  • This is great! Mike Clark is on a blues cruise drumming with Delbert McClinton right now!

  • He is the best there is. His shows are terrific. He can sing so just anything I am a huge fan.

  • I'm a fan :)))))))

  • He's one of the headliner entertainments at the 2008 Jazz Fest in Denton, Tx.!

  • Love Delbert! This is a great clip, thx for posting!

  • i agree with you 100%. that's a very nice song and distinctly differnt from the mainstay of his work. love it

  • I want to Marry this man!!! Unfortunatly he's my Fathers age...Love him anyway!

  • Delbert puts on one of the best live shows you'll ever see. Working man, he works that crowd.

  • Delbert is great, but you should hear the guy(Jerry Lynn Williams)who wrote this song do it!I have played bass with Delbert and with Jerry, being from Ft.Worth,Tx.I was very lucky to have been around such great talents.

  • Woo-hoo! That Texas boy can "sang"!

  • Delbert, Hey Bend Oregon would love to have you play here. Your the greatest! Howard

  • wow, what a good performance

  • Saw Delbert in about 1981 in Athens GA. He was knee-walking drunk, could barely stand up. But he never missed a note. Before the first song he looked at the audience and said, "Y'all don't think I can do it, do you?" He did.

  • The sax player is Robert Harwell...I looked on the back of the dvd cover from this show Austin City limits for this information
