I miss the Hampton roads area...nice area by the ocean, the people there are nice too. Of course me going to Hampton University was the highlight of my time there....my "Home by the Sea" Dallas is my new home..go Cowboys?! Naah..Mavericks!!!! lol
@Blakmajik78 One of the east coasts greatest treasures is Hampton Roads. I know your school of course and have a lot of friends that are alumni. My daughter worked in NN at the shipyard this summer and liked the yard but hated the traffic. I'm sure you know the tunnel deal to VB. I prefer the Giants & Patriots myself.Move back here and get out of that frying pan.
I love that tunnel. :) As someone formerly of Norfolk (now near Winchester, VA), I remember going through the tunnel well and everything you say is true. Traffic controls the speed (when we were there, you were lucky to not be run over doing 75) and the cops wouldn't allow folks to pass in the tubes. Last time we were there, they had antennas in the tubes for broadcast radios to work in the tubes, guess they haven't gotten the XM antennas yet. Thanks for a drive down memory lane. :)
im from hampton and have to deal with the crappy traffic all the time espically when we come home from work about 2 o clock on a friday from norfolk..... it took 2hrs from granby st to get to the other side of the tunnel in hmpton
I agree, I don't like the HRBT and all....but this video with your written commentaries could be used AGAINST national security. HRBT is a very important tunnel and as you pointed out that people can see NOB from there also. This video concerns me, because it's open to the World to view, and frankly a terrorist **yes, i'm aware this sounds cliche, but is very possible** could use this video as a learning tool. Please take this into mind whomever posted this video.
oh please. Have you heard of GoogleEarth or Wikipedia? NOB isn't a big secret. I'm more afraid of the traffic than I am of terrorists. If they got stuck in this traffic, they would turn tail and run. I think you are running scared.
Well, if you're so afraid. Stay in your basement for the rest of your live. Don't go to malls, hospitals, bigger cities, stay of bridges and ferry's, don't use airplanes and don't go to church. And if that doesn't help you might considering killing yourself, one less thing to worry about.
now now, A valid point was made which was discussed in a sidebar and everything is cool. The is a lot of information out there floating around which anyone could use against us. I figure that we can't protect against everything so at some future point something is bound to happen. If I thought fo a moment that my video showed anything even romotely new, I would pull it. You can drive over it anytime you please, an it's free.
I hate that bridge tunnel. Theirs even skidmarks going up the walls going eastbound, cant remember if westbound too. Dunno what idiot went over the curb, and then enough to let the right tires go up the wall. But it takes a genuine dumb@ss to do that. The Monitor Merrimack is way faster. Normally traffic hits 70-75 in a 55 on that bridge-tunnel.
Everyone around here hates the HRBT. As you saw I pointed out the skidmarks where some moron lost it and spun out. I'm not sure how in the hell you get loose coming out of a tunnel though. I have to believe your call on that was right. I take the M&M sometimes but most of my trips I take 58 or the CBBT.
Kewl video!!!! I drive the HRBT 5 days a week. VB to Hampton in the mornings, and Hampton to VB in the evenings! Traffic is great in the mornings, but coming from Hampton always sucks! You got through at a great time! Thanks! & God Bless!!
The westbound tunnel is not as high as the eastbound tube so trucks come cruising through and when they head back, the can get stuck. I think I heard that overheigh trucks having to be turned around is one of the biggest causes of traffic jams. They have all kind of laser sensors to determine the heights of trucks and they are blocked before they can get stuck. Glad you enjoyed VB and the video
That happens all to often. Sometimes truckers ignore the height limits not knowing that the westbound tunnel is lower than the eastbound and then must be turned around. Then of course the morons who run out of gas in the tunnel added to those with Tunnel Phobia... man oh man!
HRBT was freaking CLOSED like three seconds after I got on I64 tonight. They turned us around and I had to go across the Monitor Merrimac just to get home from school.

@Jvergakis always terrible traffic usually caused by morons slowing down in the tunnels
vbdenny 1 year ago
@vbdenny exactly it seems as soon as they get in the tunnel the freak out and slow down to 20mph
Jvergakis 1 year ago
@Jvergakis tourists. Never seen a tunnel before. Same thing on the CBBT which I go over all the time.

im thinking about going to busch gardens, i live in chesapeake and when does the traffic hit?

traffic on the HRBT can be bad anytime. I always check the traffic cams before I head that way. From Chesapeake, I'd probably take the M&M instead.

Why is it that everybody around here slows down right before the tunnel? it's the same road without the shoulders.
