  • i'd like to have 1/10th of his ability....and knowledge of rhythm

  • time check at 6:28

  • I can feel the music from him, even, when he says something. Man with a feeling. :)

  • i wonder if those are 12" hats he's using with the jungle kit ?..

  • Genius, he expands the tabla rythm, they should have filmed the tabla player.

  • what the crap happened to him. wheres the fire and the sparkle in his eye? he shouldnt be teaching to these cunts he should be jamming out like he use to.

  • bet you didn't know he was the drummer of Journey

  • @poshjarker and i bet you didn't know he plays drums on the Brian Adams power balad "HEAVEN" ?..lol ! it's true though...!

  • this man is huge... idk if he isnt the n1

  • steve smith is a genius, and incredible drummer!!!

  • oh my god! i got his autograph i didnt even kno he was sooo important and i talked to him.. =) awesome!

  • LMAO...

My first pair of sticks were JOJO's back in 1976.

If I remember correctly they were Regal Tip 2B Seconds!!!!

  • I find VF sticks last about 2 minutes in my hands. Like most drum products, hideously over-priced.

  • how about vater??

  • Thats a different story, i've found them to be reliable, well made and hard-wearing.

    After that i should get a sponsor-ship!!

  • vater is nice stuff

  • If by saying this you mean they break after 2 minutes, you must have horrendous technique!

  • what a tinny bombo...

    XD Bonzo

  • Checking his watch there at 6:29...

  • me too bro....started off using american classic rock and now use 8d LOL

  • Vic Firth are the sticks I use most of playing life. I have used a lot of sticks in my life but VF just feels the best for what ever style you play. Plus I think Steve Smiths Talwa wands are just amazing to.

  • My first ever pair of sticks were JOJO's

    Anyone remember these?

  • I still use them, best sticks I have ever used.

  • Shit you actually have some JOJO's.

I have not seen those in years

My first pair of sticks was JOJO's

  • You are taking about Jojo Mayer signatures right?

  • I beleive so....it was 22 years ago that I got them.

  • Wow! I had no idea the have been around that long.

  • I use them, too. i prefer the 7A series.

  • If I was HALF as good as this man I would be a gainfully employed musician for the rest of my life (and loving it).

  • tu chiaccheri troppo,cmq mitico!!AMAZING

  • I thought Steve Smith usually plays Sonor drums?

  • they are sonor. they are called Sonor Jungle

  • Vic Firth is making the sticks..

  • oh yeah, what was i thinking..

  • what a wonderful professor of the beat.

  • this guy is one of my favorite drummers i wanna drum like him but it comes to a point where its just like wtf i wanna give up lol same with Neil pert those guys make you wanna quit but at the same time keep going to get better lol

  • At 6:29 he looks at his watch!! For cryin' out loud. Saw him with Journey back in the day. What a talent.

  • He probably just looked at it to keep track of how long he was on stage.

  • We understand why he looked at his watch. melodyshoney's point is that he's able to do that while playing something most of us can't do while giving it 100% of our attention.

  • on the eighth day God created steve smith's left hand.

  • @raelelectricrazor :D you r an idiot

  • jedi master style

  • and buy the way, that was sweet kickin'

  • este video é bm de mais

  • I don't know how Simon Phillips is better than this guy. He's phenomenal! Obviously, Journey had some great musicians at one time.

  • oh..man..simon phillips is fuckin'gay..he is decadent!!do not compare him with steve smith!!:P

  • I hope you mean Steve Smith is better...

  • of course steve smith is better!

  • You a Journey fan as well? Who are your personal Top 5 drummers of all time? Mine are, in alphabetical order, John Bonham, Carl Palmer, Jeff Porcaro, Ian Paich, and Steve Smith.

  • hellhammer is my favorite drummer..bobby jarzombek..steve smith...frost and eric singer..

  • Steve Smith is a very nice man. He will take the time to teach you if you're having a hard time getting it. Cool Guy! :-)

  • nice. I met him in person. He came to my percussion concert. He's a cool guy? he was teaching us, played solos, and talked he was cool!

  • very nice. Its simple and original way to simplify what seem complicated. That's the way I managed to make a 7/8 (but i recorded it as soon as I imagined it, so I fucked up sometimes)vid but thats before I see this.

  • he makes the simplest stuff sound so good.

i guess cause its not simple how he does it

  • it's all about phrasing on the drums

  • Check out late 80's Steve Smith in the video here on UT: The Zildjian Secret part 2 of 2 @ 3:20 Smith is sitting 'below' his knees, cymbals way over his head, matched grip, sounding and looking like a 16 year old. Smith wins 'Most improved drummer' award.

  • haha, thats awsome... he plays awsome!

  • he signed my left testicle

  • o who gives a shit...........

  • i have a snare that was played by him.,

  • -TAkidudu--TAkidudu--Takidu

    -TAkidudu--TAkidudu--Takidu

    -Takidudu...

  • Question: If I had a Sonor Jungle Kit that was played on for a whole night by Steve Smith, then the inside of the bass drum shell signed by him - what would a collector pay for something like that?.....not that i'm thinking of selling it, just wanted to know....

  • $150

  • Really? Awesome!!!!!!

    Easy Street, here I come!

  • ... anyone can fake a Steve Smith signature. 90% of the 'sighned' garbage out there is fake. I've got a signed John Bonham drumhead I'll sell anybody for $1000

  • I guess you're right....it's just too bad that he actually signed it in front of me, and that it's MY word against anyone elses. In that case i'm keepin' it until he's bit the dust. Thats when the suckers come out with wallets in hand. By the way $1000 bucks for a drumhead is ridiculous. I've got $20?

  • Next time get a picture with you and person at the moment of signing.

  • Lol.

I have a signed Steve Smith pair of 5A's + a picture of me and him.

    I win??

  • this man is god along with neil pert they rawk - I fucking love him - techinique like butter off a knife....

  • steve smith and neil peart, my 2 favorites; you could learn som much from smoth's videos alone; steve got so much better (so it seems) from his journey days; however, what the music called for required him to hold back/limit himself; i wonder when he started displaying how taleneted he really was; as far as neil vs steve, tough to say; let neil get into fusion for abit, only way to tell, who cares really, theyre both among the top 5 in my opinion

  • Check out Steve on Jean Luc Ponty's "Enigmatic Ocean" just before he joined Journey. Or check out Gregg Bissonette on the Maynard Ferguson live recording just before he joined David Lee Roth in the mid-80's. I think you'll agree that both these guys were WAY above the level required for the rock stuff they became famous for.

  • I have the Maynard Ferguson tape I bought almost 20 years ago. Gregg's my favorite. I also have Brandon Fields The Other Side Of The Story w/Gregg. Done before DLR.

Steve is incredible. I think he is one of the smoothest drummers while playing around the kit.

  • ur a freak issacfilth666

  • Ha,ha ,ha !!!

  • i met him back when he had hair. drum clinic at Zafps music in jersey(80's)

  • I was in front row at this! also in the concert on the saturday night, i was also front row for buddys Buddies. Steves manager sat next to me and gave me steves personal sticks that he used when he was practiceing =]

  • I have sticks signed by him :)

  • check virtualdrummerschool, com and learn with the best, the biggest amount of resources about drums & percussion.

  • yay

  • rollthebones1992, what a load of bollocks, if you knew what you were talking about you'd be dangerous. You clearly know jack shit about Smitty's incredible talent and ability.

  • truly a master on drums

  • thanks for teaching

  • its firth not firt

  • Im a guitar player not a drummer, Ive seen steve smith many years ago here in NY at a Buddy Rich Tribute show. There was much talent there that day, Peart,Franco,Smitty,Chambers,Weckel, and I have to say Steve blew me away and have been hooked on his playing ever since.

  • five stars,at this level music becomes culture.

  • Steve Smith SUCKS! Check out his "John Bonham Grooves" vid--Smith gets the beats completely wrong! He tries to demonstrate Bonham's "fantastic" style of drumming but can't even come close!

Smith is as over-rated as you can get.

  • idiot!

  • What would your mommy say if she knew you were talking shit on the computer little boy?

  • why don't you play it then. If you can't do it, dont hate the guy. At least he was paying homage to bonham, smith has his own style and it's amazing. He's not my fave but you gotta keep your ears open.

  • Dude, steve smtih is an institution of rhythmic knowledge. Smith is just as every bit as amazing as bonham was. you obviously just like loud fast playing and can't appreciate the finesse smith uses in his playing.

  • Do you realize that Neal Peart is probably Steve Smith's biggest fan? Grow up...music is NOT A COMPETITIVE SPORT! IT IS TO BE EMBRACED BY EACH INDIVIDUAL AND SHARED AMONG THE TALENTED, OF WHICH YOU PROBABLY WOULDN'T QUALIFY...

  • by the way, my last comment is irected to rollthebones...

  • Well said except for the discouraging part.

  • rollthebones you are 15 and very very stupid

  • Master , Supreme

  • Steve is a legend, cheers for the vid

  • I don't see how this is boring. I personally found it very interesting and educational!!!

  • What is the Bio on Steve???????S

  • boring!

  • all groove... all great.

  • no groove, no great.

  • Is this the same Steve Smith that drummed for Journey?

  • Yes! He's since moved on to a band called Vital Information as well as several additional projects.

  • It's so great seeing these traditional indian Tihai phrases applied to the drumkit, and Steve does it with so much feeling. Truely inspirational. For me, this is the future of drumming. There are so many rhythm traditions on this planet, yet we still draw on western marching music. And that is changing now.

  • i think it's cool that steve followed his passion/curiosity for indian drumming and can use his influence/fame to hip us to it.

    thanks!

  • steve smith is drumming, he knows so much.

  • What a great drummer and educator.... simply awesome.

  • sos un groso pelado

  • steve smith rules, he is simply the best!
