what the crap happened to him. wheres the fire and the sparkle in his eye? he shouldnt be teaching to these cunts he should be jamming out like he use to.
Vic Firth are the sticks I use most of playing life. I have used a lot of sticks in my life but VF just feels the best for what ever style you play. Plus I think Steve Smiths Talwa wands are just amazing to.
this guy is one of my favorite drummers i wanna drum like him but it comes to a point where its just like wtf i wanna give up lol same with Neil pert those guys make you wanna quit but at the same time keep going to get better lol
We understand why he looked at his watch. melodyshoney's point is that he's able to do that while playing something most of us can't do while giving it 100% of our attention.
You a Journey fan as well? Who are your personal Top 5 drummers of all time? Mine are, in alphabetical order, John Bonham, Carl Palmer, Jeff Porcaro, Ian Paich, and Steve Smith.
very nice. Its simple and original way to simplify what seem complicated. That's the way I managed to make a 7/8 (but i recorded it as soon as I imagined it, so I fucked up sometimes)vid but thats before I see this.
Check out late 80's Steve Smith in the video here on UT: The Zildjian Secret part 2 of 2 @ 3:20 Smith is sitting 'below' his knees, cymbals way over his head, matched grip, sounding and looking like a 16 year old. Smith wins 'Most improved drummer' award.
Question: If I had a Sonor Jungle Kit that was played on for a whole night by Steve Smith, then the inside of the bass drum shell signed by him - what would a collector pay for something like that?.....not that i'm thinking of selling it, just wanted to know....
... anyone can fake a Steve Smith signature. 90% of the 'sighned' garbage out there is fake. I've got a signed John Bonham drumhead I'll sell anybody for $1000
I guess you're right....it's just too bad that he actually signed it in front of me, and that it's MY word against anyone elses. In that case i'm keepin' it until he's bit the dust. Thats when the suckers come out with wallets in hand. By the way $1000 bucks for a drumhead is ridiculous. I've got $20?
steve smith and neil peart, my 2 favorites; you could learn som much from smoth's videos alone; steve got so much better (so it seems) from his journey days; however, what the music called for required him to hold back/limit himself; i wonder when he started displaying how taleneted he really was; as far as neil vs steve, tough to say; let neil get into fusion for abit, only way to tell, who cares really, theyre both among the top 5 in my opinion
Check out Steve on Jean Luc Ponty's "Enigmatic Ocean" just before he joined Journey. Or check out Gregg Bissonette on the Maynard Ferguson live recording just before he joined David Lee Roth in the mid-80's. I think you'll agree that both these guys were WAY above the level required for the rock stuff they became famous for.
I have the Maynard Ferguson tape I bought almost 20 years ago. Gregg's my favorite. I also have Brandon Fields The Other Side Of The Story w/Gregg. Done before DLR.
Steve is incredible. I think he is one of the smoothest drummers while playing around the kit.
I was in front row at this! also in the concert on the saturday night, i was also front row for buddys Buddies. Steves manager sat next to me and gave me steves personal sticks that he used when he was practiceing =]
rollthebones1992, what a load of bollocks, if you knew what you were talking about you'd be dangerous. You clearly know jack shit about Smitty's incredible talent and ability.
Im a guitar player not a drummer, Ive seen steve smith many years ago here in NY at a Buddy Rich Tribute show. There was much talent there that day, Peart,Franco,Smitty,Chambers,Weckel, and I have to say Steve blew me away and have been hooked on his playing ever since.
Steve Smith SUCKS! Check out his "John Bonham Grooves" vid--Smith gets the beats completely wrong! He tries to demonstrate Bonham's "fantastic" style of drumming but can't even come close!
why don't you play it then. If you can't do it, dont hate the guy. At least he was paying homage to bonham, smith has his own style and it's amazing. He's not my fave but you gotta keep your ears open.
Dude, steve smtih is an institution of rhythmic knowledge. Smith is just as every bit as amazing as bonham was. you obviously just like loud fast playing and can't appreciate the finesse smith uses in his playing.
Do you realize that Neal Peart is probably Steve Smith's biggest fan? Grow up...music is NOT A COMPETITIVE SPORT! IT IS TO BE EMBRACED BY EACH INDIVIDUAL AND SHARED AMONG THE TALENTED, OF WHICH YOU PROBABLY WOULDN'T QUALIFY...
It's so great seeing these traditional indian Tihai phrases applied to the drumkit, and Steve does it with so much feeling. Truely inspirational. For me, this is the future of drumming. There are so many rhythm traditions on this planet, yet we still draw on western marching music. And that is changing now.
