Excerpt from Francis Pastorius' survey of the people and land for the founding of "Germantown", "at a distance of a two hours walk from Philadelphia", in 1685. Regarding the "so-called savages" (his words and quotes), he reported:
"They are, furthermore, serious and of few words, and are amazed when they perceive so much unnecessary chatter, as well as other foolish behavior on the part of Christians."
@Luke82F there are more references as the dawn of the industrial age, which causes a big insecurity, also towards identity. you can get a glimpse of the change that is coming to the west by watching the train scene at the beginning.
@Luke82F blake also needs to understand that life and death are part of his identity, a neverending cycle. nobody has this deeper understanding, which blake has to learn throughout the movie.
@Luke82F i'm trying to collect some thoughts: somebody is called nobody, an indian that has been rejected by his own tribe. it's about indians and americans that are being reflected in each other. in this scene nobody slips into the role of a white man, just by using a piece of culture - the hat. another cultural token is tobacco. but i do believe that nobodys role is to bring blake closer to some kind of spiritual level, hence the name which rejects identity defined through a name.
this scene never fails to give me a content smile

It does not take many words to speak truth.
