  • Jazaki Allahu Khairan for another great music recommendation, C. H. :)

  • Day 7: Its been a week now since I found this song. Im running low on food, and the song has yet to dissapear from my ears. Will I ever find peace?

  • The more I listen to it the more i think it's about abortion despite the concept of Hospice. Too bad there's no right answer.

  • is this song about abortion

  • @1992420256152118

That's what I think it is. or atleast partly.

Shits intense but I enjoy it.

  • @1992420256152118 Yes and no. You can interpret that way, as a metaphor for aborting something from your body that's harming you. As this is a concept album about terminally ill patient and a hospice worker, I look at it as if the bear is a tumor and the appointments are to get rid of what's ultimately ending her. However the entire album is a metaphor for the singer's past abusive relationship so I see the bear as literally being the emotional turmoil and his attempts to help her get rid of it.

  • i really cant express how much i love the album cover. It's such a sweet sadness... I love it

  • Jeff Magnum is a genius.

  • @Kamikazeesouled Every indie rock video on Youtube, somebody mentions Mangum. Like, Neutral Milk Hotel was AMAZING. But that's what there fucking videos are for.

  • Is this song about him and his girlfriend getting an abortion? sorry im not the sharpest spoon in the drawer

  • @MantisTobagganMD spoons aren't supposed to be sharp!

  • @MantisTobagganMD

Most of the concept album is about her having cancer. The metaphor here is that they rushed into a commitment neither can handle due to how young they are, sort of like having an unplanned pregnancy. They say "we're too old, we're not old at all" because while they're young (21), they feel old because of the strains of the relationship. They're likening ending their relationship to having an abortion, and all of the awkwardness and life-altering changes that these things bring.

  • reminds me of my son(rest in peace) and my ex. when he died things got bad for us.

  • Reminds me of friends lost and the anxiety during the time the love of my life was expecting our beautiful daughter Corrina :-) wonderful stuff cant wait to see them on my birthday this friday in cypress avenue in Cork City!!

  • The Album Hospice Could turn chuck Norris into an emotion reck. It is Truly beautiful ;_;

  • I am in love with this song...♥

  • The second chorus, where you're just waiting for those high harmonies to come in then all of a sudden BAM!

this song moves me soo much. time to listen to all of hospice and look at my ceiling and be really content.

  • this song moves me too much. i saw them live a few months ago and jesus i thought i was going to die, it was all so beautiful and ughhh i cant even descirbe it

  • The first time i heard this song was the first time i heard this song, i dont remember where i was, but basically i know the antlers now, sometimes i meet other people who know the antlers, what a treat. at the end of the day i still listen to them though.

  • bear and oddfuture analog

  • you hear that little saliva pop in his vocals? anyone know how i can get rid of that? i like the album but that sound is just unbearable, no pun intended

  • @gsboss buy a pop filter

  • "We're not scared of making Caves or finding food for him to eat, we're terrified of one another and terrified of what that means"

    dude..;_;

  • god i love this but i can't listen to any antlers without having the rest of my day being os alskdmf.

    aslkdfmalksdmfalskdmf

  • i love this song so much, his voice is so sweet and pure, i always get shivers up my spine when i hear "there's a bear inside your stomach"

  • ...and all the while we'll know we're fucked and not getting unfucked soon

  • doesnt this have the kinda same tune as epilogue?

  • sweet jesus what a beautiful song and what a fantastic album. i even had to spell check the word 'fantastic' because my excitement has rendered me incapable of spelling.

  • Best song on the album!

  • WE'RE TOO OLD, WE'RE NOT OLD, OLD AT ALL. JUST TOO OLD. That falsetto mixed with the lower range gets me every time.

  • Burst Apart was great, but it's no Hospice

  • OHHHHHHH she's pregnant I get it :3

  • @Northernsolstice WAS pregnant.

  • @Northernsolstice She had to get it aborted, because she had a condition that would kill the baby and her. Then shortly after, she died of cancer. Very moving album..

  • @AquaDiscoMan wow...aptly named album......a collection of moving songs.

  • Such a good fucking song. It makes me sad because me and my ex-girlfriend used to fall asleep listening to this.

  • @NationalEXE get over it, fag.

  • This song, and this album, are incredibly beautiful.

  • Everyone experiences music in their own way, but here is some personal advice: when clouds are gathering outside just before dusk, but you are not sure if it is going to rain, take your iPod, phone, mp3player or whatever else and take a walk while listening to this album and taking in your surroundings.

I can't tell how it will work for you, but for me it was breath taking. That the sky was going to crush me felt like a real threat.

  • @obermegalutschoar You sir, are a genius.

  • @obermegalutschoar Try waking up in the middle of a night when it is cloudless and not raining, sit in your garden or on your windowsill, light candles and put this album on... I do my best thinking like this. It makes you feel like you're the only person in the world x

  • @obermegalutschoar You win. Wish there were more people like you

  • @obermegalutschoar Something that is simply there, but always ignored by everyone, every single day.

  • @obermegalutschoar You are amazing.

  • @obermegalutschoar it feels fucking pensive and deep with a little bit of threat which only intensifies the emotion of the music.

  • @obermegalutschoar I first stumbled across this very exact song during a road trip. As we drove by in the desert, I saw the long yellow plains that stretched to the golden aura mountains in the distance and at that moment, coupled with this song, it was so breathtaking and beautiful, something that transcended anything man can ever make (well...except this song :p)

  • I just listened to this for the second time, and realized how great of a song this is. :)

  • Not the best song to listen to at 3:00 in the morning... A - hurr ~ ♥

  • perfect !

  • Comment removed

  • my favorite song off the album :)

  • A M A Z I N G.

  • Why is this in the same tune as Epilogue?

  • @CIeopatra Because it's a concept record of sorts, symmetry and whatnot

  • @CIeopatra epilogue is the second part to this song, like the follow up ending aka an epilogue

  • ... the fact that an ad saying 'find gay bear men' frightens me. meet local bears? how about no!

  • come to paredes de coura please

  • the antlers are what music was meant to sound like!

  • I just saw these guys last night in san francisco. They are incredible live!

  • @MrIlikepie170 I wish I knew about them then x.x

  • i think its about a young couple who arent sure about how having a kid will change their lives, its not about the bear- its about their friends and their future. They are scared of the future,so are their friends- who think they are too old to hang out with anymore since they have this kid on the way. The couple eventually gets an abortion out of the fear of getting old and out of fear of permanently losing their friends. But in the end they know they are fucked and arent getting unfucked soon.

  • @breakfastdishes I think you should listen to the album, it's part of the story.

  • @breakfastdishes you have to listen to this song in the context of the rest of the album.

  • Unbelievably good. Amazing. Heart-wrenching. Must. Buy. Album.

  • Song cuts out at the end :(

  • its an achievement when a song makes you sad....it's a masterpiece when a whole album makes you sad

  • @karlos23023 and this is madly depressing

  • what a gorgeous song

  • wtf is this about

  • @checkside8 it's about a tumor. they say they give food and shelter to the "bear" or tumor, because that's how cancer works. cancer is a part of your body that mutates, and grows out of control, but it still is part of your body, and gets nutrients from what you eat, etc.

in the beginning of the song, they're optimistic about getting rid of the cancer, act stupid, but then it continues to grow and they say "if it isn't a dream they'll have to cut it out" then she has to leave to the hospital.

  • @checkside8 i'm pretty sure it's about a young couple having a child. e.g, they refer to it as a cub. babys are often reffered to as cubs. also they say that SHE shouldn't be drinking champagne, this is the case when one is pregnant. they say 'we'll make all the right appointments, no one will ever have to know' as if they are try to conceal the fact that she has been knocked up.

in the second verse as well as the first they say 'the cubs been kicking from within/you for weeks. sign of a child.

  • @checkside8 In my opinion is about of the abortion of a 10/ 11 Year old girl, which has cancer, the narrator is explaining the process with an Analogy "There's a bear inside your stomach........".

The gilr may suffered a violation by her dad, the lyrics of the song Two say "Daddy was an asshole we fucked you up".

  • @ECHOES2131 I heard this album was about the singer's wife who when she was a child, had cancer and had a very bad experiance at the hospital, apperently they did painful experiments on her, her dad either encouraged them or did nothing to stop it/ was an abusive father. the song is about his wife and he debating whether or not to get an abortion basically

  • @JoJobabylove12 Who does he bury in Epilogue? Who does he say he lays in bed and looks over to them but they're not there?

  • @raidendream i havent looked at that yet :o if i find out ill try t let you know XD

  • it's sad and emotional

  • wow i love this it's so cool

  • are people really saying aeroplane over the sea sucks??

  • we at first dated, lost our virginities to eachother. she dated another guy after i dumped her, she got pregnant by him, and had the abortion. and it changed her and it was my fault and i fucked up and we are moving on, but not getting unfucked soon

  • Just watched The Antlers - Bear ~~ Up Next - The Gummy Bear Song (Long English Version)

God damnit youtube what the fuck

  • @CanasNG Hahaha, I know right? That's what I thought!!

  • @CanasNG That comment just made my night!

  • anyone who likes the antlers and remains unaware of a'ngus and julia stone' is sadly deluded

  • @MrCommenter2000 Step one: Find a dictionary. Step 2: Look up the definitions of the following words: "likes", "unaware", "deluded". Step 3: Realise how silly your words were.

  • @kasroa god dammit dude shut the fuck. nice work with your fullstop also, it shows how your extremely clever and intellectually superior!

  • @MrCommenter2000 Damn son you mad as hell

  • @MrCommenter2000 god dammit dude shut the fuck. dammit shut the fuck. shut the fuck.

  • I love the way this sounds like Epilogue!

  • this album saved my life. respect.

  • This song makes me wanna cry.

  • @SeanAbesto

The next track on the album is Thirteen. If you don't pay attention to the music changing, the two songs flow together really well and you can't even tell the songs switched. It's leading into the chaos in Sylvia's mind since Thirteen is her song.

  • It's amazing what music can do to people.

  • If I could fly, I'd take a trip to some little wooden shack atop a mountain in mid-spring and listen to this while the sun sets. Cause that's just how it makes me feel~

What's with the sudden ending though? Does the song flow into another one on the album, or is it just that way? Cause my trip just made a crash landing xD

  • something i would listen to completely stoned...

  • @extrasupervery7 i agree, i got the exact same feeling. i started bawling cause i don't know what i'm doing with my life. what a cry baby, i am. :b

  • no.

    fucking no.

  • Beautiful song.

  • We need a new ITAOTS because that album sucks DICK.

  • Hospice is the new ITAOTS. Thumbs up if you agree.

  • @celestialsnail It's amazing but not the new ITAOTS.

  • @GlenMuse795 You're right, it would be insulting to call this album something as terrible as ITAOTS. These lyrics aren't pretentious and boring, they make sense, the music is actually interesting and the vocals don't sound fucking terrible.

    Deal with it.

  • @FlyingFuckstorm >implying the lyrics in ITAOTS didn't make perfect sense

    2deep4u buddy.

  • why does the quality of this video suck? Did the reord company mess up or something?

  • trolling trolling trolling everywhere..

  • br00tal death metal

  • Everyone, just listen to the music and lyrics. It doesnt need any bitching or moaning. It deserves respect.

  • bawwchan [dot] org

  • Awh god. Can i have a hug please? :|

  • @AngelaRawrsOmNom no your ugly

  • @TrajaD514 Touche. ;D

  • @AngelaRawrsOmNom you know, some people in life are ugly, but they can have plastic surgery if theyre rich and dress well to become hot. but still not pretty. I guess you can do that if ur rich

  • @TrajaD514 Look dude. what does it matter wether im ugly or not? Just stfu and enjoy the music KTHX.

  • @AngelaRawrsOmNom i just lol'd at you guys' convo xDD

  • Absolutely perfect.

  • holy shit.

    this, is quite lame.

    god damn hipsters.

  • @shogott Us goddamn hipsters hated you before you even made this comment.

  • i love this song and thats about all i can say

  • oh my, this is sad but good...

i wanna hear the whole album now.

do the songs go in a specific order to tell the story?

  • @ratlover35 Yes they do. The ending song is very sad.

  • @ratlover35 Yep. Bear happens to be a recollection of a past abortion.

  • mood before this song = ok after = lieing on the couch

  • I'm a smoldering heap of emotions right now.

  • Okay, let's get this straight.

They didn't just go "Ohhey, let's make a song about abortion", this album is a concept album. It tells a story in first and sometimes second person about a hospital worker meeting a cancer patient (Sylvia) on her death bed, and their interactions (including her getting pregnant, hence this song).

You can't put the songs in isolation, they mean so much more

  • *insert pretentious comment hidden behind (supposedly intellectual yet truly nothing more than) passive aggressive language*

  • This is my first time hearing this song or band for that matter..

I mus say, amazing. Beautiful voice. Beautiful sounds, their song "Two" is pretty amazing too. I jus listened to it before this one.

  • Hospice is one of the most wonderful things to happen in modern music...

  • I prefer The Gambler or I Wanna Be The One to Benson Hedges, but the whole album (Ain and Ignite) is incredible, highly recommended

  • I've never found an album that tells a story like this. It really pulled me in.

Aaaand I definitely cried. It's sort of depressing, yet, really beautiful.

New favorite band? I think so.

  • johnny flynn,

  • saw them in concert about a week ago at the black cat...these guys are brilliant. I cried.

  • This song gives me butterflies, no matter the context of it<3

  • @dragonlilly hell yeah, the thrill of the hunt, the rewards of the exploration.

That's what makes life good, as well as music for me (:

  • music is music, it's all spectacular in some shape or form:) whether indie, pop, rock, or classic, it's all good, this song in particular!!

  • this song is so sad yet so awesome. it makes me wanna sing it on the top of my lungs ha (:

  • Personally I can't stand Kesha, but people aren't pathetic if they like her.

    Anyways, this is excellent.

  • @BloodPump

I wish there were more people like you.

  • How awesome is it that I found this band by googling the poster "Anatomy of a Heavy Weapons Guy"? >w<

  • first time hearing this song aand band ,

I think they made a very amazing first inpression . i love this song now .

    <3

  • the abortion parallels interesting but i'm not sure how it fits into this album... :/

  • this song makes my stomach feel all goo goo gaga and shit

  • @Jaffar32 Dude, same here!

  • My brother told me off for singing to this. It's painful not to...

  • Bear = Baby.

"There's a bear in side your stomach, cubs been kicking you for weeks. (ABout the right time for an abortion) We'll put an end to him." That pretty much sums up what the song is about. The rest is why they did it and it's affects on the parents.

  • I played this song at my aborted babies funeral.

  • I'm not gonna lie I hate when the guitar comes in at 2:10, it sounds like crap. the whole part before that is great.. and then it's just like.. bad

  • @Jkru352 agree

  • @Jkru352 agree.. except i don't exactly hate it i just would've liked it more if they didn't add the guitar

  • @Jkru352 dude what songs or albums have you put out lately? i'd love to hear it.

  • @JustynzoBeyondo

I haven't put out any actually. I like this band and album a ton, just think that the guitar ruins the song. Just an opinion, if you disagree then good. Opinions are what make the world go round. Perhaps my comment was a bit too blunt, I don't hate the guitar I just don't like the sound of it. Sorry.

  • @Jkru352 please don't be sorry, I respect your opinion, but i understand a bit more now that you explained it to me :3

  • @JustynzoBeyondo

    Yeah I was a pretty harsh in that last reply, I'm glad you didn't attack me. We straight. :-}

  • @Jkru352 Oh no biggy, We're solid.

  • I love The Antlers! Amazing :D

  • beautibeautibeautiful. this whole album is.

  • Lol. This song's about abortion. :3

  • this wows me lyrically

this whole album is just a giant emtional roller coaster

  • this has inspired me to try to make it into the music industry - didnt realize it was that easy...

  • @shiznitshnitzel It really is not easy. It may sound easy, but it is NOT.

  • I love how it's the same tune as Epilogue :3 Kinda makes the album more together :)

  • arcadefire5 is an idiot, you can't claim to have a good music taste when you're so narrow minded

  • what's with the troll war on every goddamn good indie and 'underground" music i listen on youtube. I mean can't you people just enjoy the music without refering to the most popular musician at the moment ?

You should recommand other awesome bands instead.

  • @Kabalyst i will just do that then. EVERYONE go check out fun. thats how you spell it-- fun. they are really good live and recorded look up fun.-benson hedges to get you started with your fun search for fun.

  • @thekingofnaruto I back you up! Fun. is AWESOME.

  • @Kabalyst do you know of any? I'm a fan of Coldplay's stuff but I'm not too much into the mainstream

  • @Kabalyst i know this song is so pretty and sad :-( i will fight for it

  • @Kabalyst

Here some bands I think are underated:

I Am Kloot are a really good band, everyone should hear them

Specificly the songs "Proof" on the "Sky At Night" album. Or "Morning Rain" on "Natural History". They're an acoustic 3piece, with great lyrics.

And for rock fans should like Fingersmith, look up the video for "Pogo". They're a grunge feel to them. So do "Kerbdog" ,and "The Chakras" should please Pink Flyod and Snow Patrol fans. The last 3 bands I've mentioned are all Irish ;)

  • @Kabalyst Cymbals Eat Guitars.

  • how is lady gaga even close to the worse of music today? her piano stuff is pretty decent and she can sing.

btw this is the first time i've heard this and it's amazing!

  • what is wrong with lady gaga the beats are different, the music is well composed and original! , the singing is fantastic, the lyrics are consistently well written and even poetic...so what is it that is so terrible about her? there is unquestionable depth to her music....just because it is appealing to the masses doesn't mean it has to be shallow, anyone who questions the genius of Lady Gaga is a fool, you don't have to like her music, but at least recognize her talent

  • Go search The End by The Doors and click on the first link and try to even compare your precious Lady Gaga to that. Lol, idiots.
