Ok, I just got through reading some of the previous comments and I'd like to say that when the live action film is made it will be based on the books not the animations. Hideyuki Kikuchi has said as much. The animations are very different from the books. Having said that it would be Count Mayerling not Meier Link. And remeber folks, nobles are perfect, tall, and beautiful so lets keep that in mind when choosing who plays who. I continue to stress, an "unkown" to play the part of "D". :)

Being that I am a HUGE fan of Vampire Hunter D I would prefer that the part of "D" be played by un "unkown". Picking a well known actor will immediately have high expectations by D's audience and may cause it to flop. Putting an unkown may give it a better chance. Any other role can be played be known actors that can bring in the fans. :)

Casting the right person to play D is an interesting problem. I'd pick Christian Bale for acting skills and facial expressions only - not because he looks like D (not tall enough and wrong bone structure). I personally think that Andrew Philpot's voice IS the voice of D (if you're wondering why I'm mentioning him, ask). Anyone who has read the first Vampire Hunter D manga (fairly new) would get an idea of how I think D should look. Find an actor who looks like that with Bale's acting skills.

For people who actually read the novels understand why you pick who you picked. Keanu would be a good choice. D is all about presence, he doesn't talk much. Disagree with Bale. Voice is too grungy. D is more eloquent and sophisticated in this area. Not sure is Keanu can even pull that off. But when it comes to demeanor, attitude and screen presence, I believe Keanu can pull that off. Good pick. I would undoubtly be forced to kill myself if any of the above listed even attempted to play D. I dont think anyone can play him and live up to the same reputation he has set....Gackt maybe?..Cat Casino from Deathstars?...maybe.
