It's a shame Finnish death metal didn't catch on like Swedish did. Sooo much good heavy-as-fuck death metal which sadly remain too obscure and unappreciated.
Yeah. It really is a shame. I think it was due to most of the Finnish bands had a very innovative or just different touch in their music and therefore they did scare most of the record labels.
And the damn Seraphic Decay, ruined two of the most talented Finnish bands : Abhorrence and Demilich.
Well, what you gonna do
I think it's 1-0 for Sweden in this case aswell =)
I guess in a way it's fortunate Demilich didn't release anything after Nesphite, because that would have destroyed a lot of it's cult status. They wouldn't be known as one of the most unique and original bands in the old school scene but rather just desperately trying to top the debut. How do you top that album without being repetitive?
@wolvie90 unlike swedish metal, Finnish death metal happens to not be 60% shit, though. Finnish death is about always crafted with such fine quality:] Finnish death metal will always be ftw:D
Now, now. I think both Finland and Sweden have produced some awesome metal music already from the beginning of 80s. Both have crafted their's with fine quality.
@XysmicExecration I agree, but Finish death metal often seems to have a more unique sound. There's generic crap and true genius in every scene, but stuff like Demilich, Amorphis, Beherit, Demigod, etc seems more creative and brilliant than something like Entombed... maybe not At the Gates, though!
Yeah, but now 80% of the Finnish only care about that Melodic crap. Maybe if they were bad ass Melodic I wouldn't mind, but no they aren't like Sentenced because they rely too much on that god damn melodic sound.
@FeastedUpon yeah that's true:/ a lot of the more raw death metal became very scarce after the 90's in finland, which is a shame considering I think it was the best place for death metal at that time, If only they could actually be better with melody.. honestly the melody with the guitar chords is very off>.> I mean if they could have some parts where they harmonize key board to go with the guitars a bit more they'd be fine but from what I've heard it just kinda does it's own thing, damn shame
brutal \m/! could you post more stuff from nerlich since i cant find a download of this cd in the internet. of course there are plenty in net stores but im low on money so :)

That is a good point.
Demilich probably wouldn't have kept playing death metal in that fashion, atleast not longer than album or two.
What a pitty, Antti Boman hasn't participated in any new projects since.
