What most people don't know was that the Corvette was George Kirk's car and his Jim's asshole of a stepfather claimed it. Kirk said fuck that and ran it off a cliff.
star trek is based in the 23 century, if it is that makes that car a couple hundred years old and he drove it off a cliff, he's definitely a badass but why a classic vette
I am not a huge Star Trek fan. And I am not a Beastie Boys fan at all.
But this might be one of the best scenes in any movie I've ever seen (No pun intended.)
This whole little segment said "This is a new Star Trek movie. This is not going to be what you are expecting. But not only are we going to change it, we're going to make those changes completely and totally AWESOME."
The Corvette & the flying Cop are both going in the same direction. The Corvette turns 90 degrees to the right. The cop overshoots. The cop doesn't turn 90 degrees right, he turns 270 degrees to the left. WTF ?!?! And don't tell me it only hovers 3' off the ground. At 0:54 seconds the vehicle is about 10' off the ground. So why didn't he just veer off to the right. He wouldn't hit anything. Not even a 6' fence.
"No heart or soul"? Dude, I've been watching star trek since I was 4, and I loved the movie. I thought it was well-done, and I liked the new concepts Abrams brought to the series. Or maybe you'd have preferred another rehash with all the old actors and jokes?

I was embarrassed during this scene. Especially with the music. Come on...the Beastie Boys? It was childish and it showed young Kirk NOT as a likable rogue but as a real asshole. A 14 year old boy destroying a vintage Corvette instead of treasuring it....no matter to whom it belonged to. And the Nokia add drop was a bit to much, too.
That was the point. Without a father to guide him Kirk grew up an asshole under an asshole step dad. (and when they filmed that scene it was originally supposed to be an abusive uncle). So yeah I was fine with it because it showed how he grew up poorly and how he had to mature to become captain if things were to fall into place.
Oh, you mean how things naturally fall into place...like a mutinous, cantankerous, bar fly, womanizer, can go from being a cadet one minute to getting a commission of Captain and the command of the most advanced Star Ship in Starfleet the next minute. Is that how it works in that universe? That would be like graduating the Naval Academy, doing your job, & then becoming capt of an aircraft carrier.
Not to mention...it was Spock who saved the day, NOT Kirk, by blowing up the Narada.
Well this is Star Trek after all. 3 years went by and Kirk proved in the Nero incident that he made a good captain and he saved everybody. It was Kirk's plan. Spock just joined in. Now I'll grant you, maybe him jumping to Lt. Commander would have been more plausible but I'm happy enough with how they redid the story
when i saw the trailer first time i had no idea that it was star trek before i saw the guy with big ears :D spok or someone. because there's old car and robot cop with floating motorbike or something.. O_o
the timing for the song was off he jumped out of the car when the beastie boys went. ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
kirk's motorcycle didn't float because he didn't have money for that :D but if i remember right his tires weren't hitting on the bike so there were some magnet between that

Driving a then vintage Corvette off a cliff doesn't make him a "badass" but it does make him an asshole.

I found another flaw in the movie, boys and girls.
Watch from 0:50 to 0:57.

Well, your going to get mine.
It wasn't a true Trek movie. It was Star Trek In Name Only {or STINO}.
No heart or soul. Bad story. Lame villain. And those stupid F'ing lens flares.
