The pendulum is a slow gyroscope, three stories tall. It knocks the pegs down as the earth rotates. Pure physics in action, and 5 people disliked this. Those 5 have never been to COSI.
ahahaha i went to this place as a field trip the laser light harp, and the pixels were awesome... My friend would dip his head ( the top one ) in that pool of water you make the pipes with and shake it head, and water would go EVERYWHERE rofl... good times.. good. times... :]
@Blaxxhawk ikr, we always go to cosi for school trips now and then..and ive always loved the harp, but isn't that water pool in that deep sea exhibit where you could do stuff like shoot the water into the statue?
i live in Sylvania and i have many happy memories there and i know that they are going to open it back up the city is not going to let cosi leave or let the building sit empty. i just hope they open it back up soon.
at the Toledo cosi i mean. People comlained that it was expensive, it was small, and that parking was far away, but there isnt much space to expand when you have water on one side and a clogged city on the other they dont have many otpions and it wouldnt cost so much if voters didnt beat down every levy they put up.
Cool vid! Man I miss the old COSI :( I still havent had the chance to visit the new one but the first one packed so many awesome childhood memories. I heard the new one is more expensive and not as fun? Anyone have any opinion comparing the two?
The new location has so much open space! I think the new building is just as interesting, and it is laid out better. It's not all in your face nor are you constantly bumping into people, everything has its own room or area. The admission is higher (by like a wimpy 2 bucks) but the memberships are worth it! I was able to play all day with my neice before desiding to get a membership, they applied my same day admission money to me membership fee. (had to be from the same day though)
I used to work there and overal I would say more than 75% of our guests liked the old COSI better. The new one is more deminstration oreanted as the old one was more hands on. Not to say the new one isn't hands on, but just not to the extent of the old COSI. Alot of people mentioned missing the old COSI. However, If you have children that are kindergarden age and under, its great. Senior citizens tend to like the new COSI more as well. Hope this helps.
I find that percentage to be way high. It would depend on the timeframe in which you worked here as well. That perception has drastically changed over the last 36-48 months...Which I must point out coincides with our new CEO.
Science is Fun! The pendulum at COSI is a visitor favorite. It demonstrates that the Earth rotates at 790 mph! Science shows that as the Earth moves, it carries COSI with it, and COSI carries the pendulum, giving the illusion that the pendulum is moving in a circle.
after who knows how many years of science classes, I never understood how pendulums worked until I just read your comment....and I think I had some grammatical errors in this comment, man I feel dumb, lol.
easier explination, is that the pendulum is constantly going in a straight line but as the earth rotates below it , it creates the illusion to us that its rotating. so like imagine a ruler thats hovering in a fixed position in the air as the earth moves under it ,to us it would appear to rotate because we follow with the earth but in reality its the ruler thats stationary. its also to do with the coriolus effect. but i wont get into that lol.

every 15 minutes the pendulum knocks down two balls and it demonstrates that the earth is rotating below it.
