  • All that vocal warning for a mere 30 seconds or so of actual test.

  • I know x3

  • @SpeakerPolice lol, kind of excessive!

  • :3

  • That would be scary if that siren becomes haunted and it turns into a Silent Hill siren

  • Yes,yes it would. x3

  • @stormchaser1000T a WPS 3016 IS a Whelen.

  • this is not a whelen its a WPS-3016

  • so what happens when it's not a test?

  • We all scream and run, that's what. x3

  • @SpeakerPolice Touche, but I'm talking in seriousness. Like, does it make a siren soound? Or is there a voice message?

  • I am actually not sure if there is a voice message during an actual test. I would say no, but that's only a guess. :3

  • sounds creepy O_O

  • Hey did you know that this is a test? LOL

  • No, I had no idea! xDDD

  • Comment removed

  • the damn thig spend more time telling everybody its a test then the acual test, them whelens suck

  • Answer me this: What if you DIDN'T know it was just a test? :B

  • @SpeakerPolice Then it would spend more time telling people its an emergency. all whelens are kool but the voice is just a wast of time

  • @nickman888 The siren just does as it's told. The people at the nuclear station tell it to spend most of its time talking ;)

  • Haha, yeah. x3

  • @SgtSavage166 yes i know that. wasent being insultive :)

  • @nickman888 :3

  • Why does it have a phone dialing sound After it says, "This is a test, This is only a test" ?

  • or play the dubstep santa tune lol !!!!

  • it would be funny if they go to talk and then it gets rick rolled lolz

  • A rickroll of this volume would be EPIC.

  • ThunderBolt's don't talk. They do what their supposed to do. Not talk and warn people.

  • Thunderbolts don't talk because they are incapable of doing so. :B

(Not discounting the TB--it's an amazing piece of hardware)

  • @SpeakerPolice your right, Thunderbolts dont talk because their also Mechanical sirens

  • This is correct.

  • This isn't a test

  • Now why would you say that? :B

  • "This Is Not A Test" "Repeat This Is Not A Test" "Run For Your Lives" D=

  • *runs*

  • Wait a sec, how come I count only 9 long horns... I thought 3016's had 16 short horns

  • There are 16 horns, you just can't see the other 7--they're behind the ones you CAN see. xD

  • jeez, it talked more than it wailed! lol. nice video tho

  • This is true xD Thanks ^^

  • those sirens are annoying as hell, just turn it on for 3 mintues and call it good

  • Haha xD

  • Mahoning County Ohio has these types of Sirens in some places

  • Awesome!

  • What is the dial tone every so often?

  • DTMF tone, used to activate other sirens in the area.

  • i wouldnt wanna wake up hearing "this is a test this is only a test" that wpuld annoy me cuz i enjoy sleeping in during the morning

  • Same. xD

  • it was bad and it is bad than pakistan necular power plant

  • I hate those sirens

  • Why? xD

  • The Sound Of death in the Air!..

  • Good thing it was only a test. xD

  • @SpeakerPolice Yes, They killed The Pacific And the Gulf Of Mexico..Lets Try to keep The Atlantic Somewhat Tamed.

  • @BarryPuppetSoetoro61 it it really scery

  • I hope not! O.o

  • it says this is a test like 20 times!

  • It's more like five times. xD

  • @SpeakerPolice i know but it sounded like it

  • Only dogs can hear it.

  • Ha. xD

  • Why does it make a phone noise?

  • That sound is called a DTMF tone, and is designed to activate other nearby sirens in the area.

  • Justin beier is in town!!! RUN!!!

  • *panics and runs* xD

  • You can hear the rotator whirring.

  • veiws = 9,999 lol

  • Haha, you're right! xD

  • now if theyd play the imperial march on it

  • That would be epic. 8D

  • Why does the siren rotate to one direction each time she says "this is a test, this is only a test"? Why dosen't it rotate fully the whole time she is saying it?

  • It stops at each test so that it can be heard from all directions.

  • @SpeakerPolice Now that there is a worn whelen.

  • Yes indeed. xD

  • Those are tones designed to activate the other sirens in the immediate area.

  • Its amazing how far sirens have come!

  • It really is!

  • reminds me to the teletubbies

  • LOL really? How so? xD

  • sometime after it starts you can here another siren windup in the back round

  • Yep, you are correct.

  • lol, it's all like, "this is a test, this is only a test.....And then after that we will bomb you" lol.

  • Haha, that would be EPIC if it said that. xD

  • @SpeakerPolice lol i know.......

  • do you work for port st lucie power plant, speaker?

  • No, I do not, I just keep a boat down there. xD But it would probably be a neat job!

  • What is a Nuklear Power Plant?

  • Any power generating facility that uses nuclear reactors as its primary source of power generation. ;)

  • @SpeakerPolice ? Dont get it!

  • If you do a Google Search for 'nuclear reactor', it will all be made clear. ;)

  • i knew that when i was two!

  • crappy siren, cant hear anything.

  • Did you listen to the whole video? Everyone else can hear it just fine.

  • @SpeakerPolice yah i did listen but was too late, i already posted the comment. I grew up in Romania and i was there in 1986 when chenobyl happend in Ukraine. was aweful, they gave us potasium iodine pills against radation.. was scary as hell.

  • i was in florida today for vacation and i passed 2 nuclear power plants

  • Nice, do you know if either of them was the St. Lucie FPL plant? That's where this is.

  • This is a test. This is only a test.

  • Thankfully. xD

  • Yes, nuclear fallout sirens tend to creep people out xD

  • 1:52 *plays jeopardy theme song* 3:34 = ".....?" And no, I don't think Whelens are replacing everything else. I'm not sure but I think it's Federal things. The one FED Thunderbolt I guess it's called OR those are the ones being forgotten forever.

  • The Federal Thunderbolt is an aging siren, and they are being taken down in many places. It's a real shame, I want to hear one and get it on video!

  • whelen 4004 windup at 3:45. if you listen closely, you can hear it (i said that because the 3016 was loud).

  • Thank you, I was wondering what that other siren was.

  • 0:13 GO PIKACHU!

  • You're the second person to notice that. xD

  • @SpeakerPolice oh...

  • This is a test! this is actually a test!

  • Haha. xD

  • I dunno, the DC is pretty damn loud. xD

  • i wonder which is louder this, or the dorran cunningham?

  • wow this would not alert me at all.

  • Now why is that? xD

  • not terrific. just a bunch of modem beeps and a woman saying "this is a test". Only to find the actual wail of the siren towards the very end. Incidentally, it sounds much more like a Thunderbolt than a Whelen.

  • Meant to be a full test video, not just the siren. I've never heard a T-Bolt in person, so I can't comment on that one. xD

  • I was sitting right next to one and it went off for a test made me jump like 3 feet lol they are LOUD

  • That would definitely make me jump. xD

  • I counted...about five of these when my dad drove near a power plant over the weekend. While I was educating him about the different sirens and he told me about having to learn the different sounds the sirens use to signal with while working in a nuclear power plant, he mentioned that it seems like our tornado siren is tested once a week now. Overcautious, maybe, but I don't blame them after the close calls we had with Hurricane Gustav lol

  • Yeah, you can never be too cautious. xD These ones go off every three months.

  • Ya, I wish! xD

  • these aren't made to save ur life, they're made to let u know ur about to vaporized lol

  • whe have a nuclear power plant and we have a whelen but its diffrent for this one its knda round what one is t

  • I wasn't aware that Whelen made a round siren. Are you sure it's not a Federal?

  • @SpeakerPolice idk ive seen a few videos of round whelens nut im not sure what is

  • Not sure what it would be! xD

  • @SpeakerPolice idk it my be a fedral

  • Maybe! A picture would help me, if you've got one.

  • @SpeakerPolice i ll get one next time i see one i go by them pretty often so

  • OK, cool. =)

  • Whats up with the weird keypad tones?

  • Those are DTMF tones; they cause other nearby sirens in the area to activate.

  • What a perfect background!

  • Thank you! I do think it came out nicely =)

  • i like how it keeps reminding people not to run screaming going THE PLANTS GOING TO EXPLODE RUN

  • I got a kick out of that as well. XD

  • 0:11 lol was that a pokemon?

The rotation on it looks weird. is that who it's supposed to work?

  • XD! 11 seconds in are the DTMF tones that are designed to activate the other sirens in the area. And yes, during the test sequence, the siren rotates a set distance before each test. During actual operation, it cycles continuously.

  • HAHAHA IT WAS!

  • That's one of the early 3016s. Not to mention it's dirty.

  • It's been out there for awhile. XD

  • at 0:06 it farts lol the worlds loudest fart

  • I know, I LOL'd so hard when I heard it XD

  • I think I heard 4004 after this siren wound up.

  • I think you are right!

  • whats the purpose of these sirens? is it like a hurracane warning or something? im from ireland and the only one of these we have is to call the local fire department reserves to the station in an emergency btw the sound always scared the hell out of me as a kid i remember hiding under the covers when i heard it lol

  • These are for an emergency evacuation in the unlikely event that the St. Lucie Nuclear Power Plant nearby experiences a significant failure (e.g. something that would cause irradiation of the nearby communities). And LOL, I would probably freak out too if I heard that and didn't know what it was for!

  • couldn't you have changed the picture, its so eerie

  • What do you mean by changing the picture?

  • well, I meant video, it seems like somethings gonna pop up ans start screaming during the first 3 minutes

  • These are MOV (QuickTime) files, so they are incompatible with Windows Movie Maker. I couldn't change the picture, even if I wanted to. DX

  • 3:34 "The Last Sound you'll ever hear."

  • It's true. =O

  • Sweet sky, idk about the siren

  • Hehe thanks

  • I live off of Floresta we don't have one near us but can hear the ones across the river from on US1 and Prima Vista.

  • I bet! These suckers are loud! XD

  • These never happen in Washington U.S.A.

  • Do you have a siren system there?

  • Probably not

If we do it is an alarm for Mt. Rainier.

  • I live in Fort Pierce and that siren is only two houses down from me. It's kinda spooky when it goes off, especially when your not expecting it.

  • I can imagine!

  • you cant easily just bomb a nuclear power plant end expect it to just blow up..... the core is actually about a 100+ feet below the ground so the most a reactor can to to be fatal is over heat and have a meltdown. that is why they have these sirens, so that when they start having problems on a major scae they activate them so everyone can evacuate before it leaks out enough radiation

  • That sounds about right, except for the reactor being that far underground. I'm pretty sure St. Lucie's reactors are inside the two giant reinforced concrete silos on the property.

  • If it's below the ground it's nothing near 100 feet.

  • Woah Nice.. I live an hour and 30 minutes away from a nuclear power plant.. I wonder what would happen if some one dropped a bomb on a nuclear power plant.. Scary thoughts.

  • That would...not be good. Many WTF Bombs come to mind. XD

  • at the end when the close one stops the ones at the background that you can hear very well sounds like crying wolves xD

  • I was waiting for someone to notice that. I thought the exact same thing! Cool! XD

  • Really Scary!!!!!

  • Nah, I like wolves. =D

  • i like scary alert things!!!

    they never happen in holland

only on the first monday of the month at 12.00 am

atomic things i am interested even more

  • Ha, so do I! I want to go see an original Thunderbolt siren =D

  • why does it say first like over 10 times "this is a test, this is only a test" instead of only one or two times

    useless

    where do you live?

  • scary if it was no test

  • What's with the DTMF tones? You can hear those on practically every Whelen siren test video.

  • I don't know what those are for, either! I was hoping someone would explain it to me. My guess is that the other sirens somehow pick up on it and activate. Dunno.

  • Most sirens use DTMF tones to activate. Whelens seem to output them over the speaker, it's weird.

They are for activation, and cancellation. Also they can be used to check a siren's condition where the siren is polled and it will send back a DTMF code if there's a fault.

  • Thanks for that info, I appreciate it. =) I haven't heard many sirens, but so far, these Whelens are the only ones I've heard produce the tones as well.
