  • that's what a REAL race car sounds like !

  • buick motor,,,right

  • @xpfuzz Buick heads on a SBC.

  • Ha! Ha! One more BANG! Forgot.

  • Right foot to the floor boards. Then...BANG! BANG! BANG!

    Sweeeet!

  • if you listen closely, you'll notice he shifts to 2nd while his front end is still in the air!

  • Just like moparbeech put it thats a real mans car 4 speed!!!

  • This is funny, I saw this video awhile ago. I saw Ernie and his son mike a couple of weekends ago at Norwalk and told them about this video and they had no idea they're on youtube. 99K views! lol

  • @Ayerzee2006 thats my dad

  • I've never heard a Buick with so much modification. Sweet.

  • I forgot to mention: "and add a couple of dry hops after the burnout and it'll be just like the good ol' daze."

  • Get rid of that damn annoying-sounding two-step rev limiter (which f*cks up the cool sound of a manual shift car on launch) and it'll sound just like the good ol' daze!

  • @440John He doesn't run a rev limiter.

  • sweet miike

  • like this kind of racing , s/ stock up thru the 80`s , m/ production , gas classes , altereds, pro stock . now 10.5 tire class . best dracing around !

  • Search "IHRA Modified Eliminator" for a bunch of high winding

dry hoppin' modified cars. Not trying to hijack your video, but this stuff is hard to come by. Enjoy.

  • Listen to the guys comments at the end, no truer words

  • Bobby Cross showed me the program from the 1971 US Nationals and there were 392 entries in Modified Eliminator alone. I think they ran a 128 car field. Unfortunately, the NHRA killed the best class in drag racing and gave us Super Gas.

  • Getting pumped for the Classic Gear Jammers at Wilkesboro this weekend!

  • Hi Mike. Great vid! I'm one of the publishers of Drag Illustrated and I will talk about this kind of drag racing until the day I die. Thanks again for a great post.

  • If you like this, search Maliburacr and click on Houston 2. Best racing clip on YouTube!

  • Hey QR3550, looked and both 1 and 2 of the Houston clips. That is the most modified drag racing I've been able to find on youtube. Fantastic stuff. Thanks.

  • I watch those 2 clips every day. I get goose bumps every time. Glad you enjoyed it.

  • that is one mean 272!

  • reminded me of modified production days of NHRA. should have shown win light.

  • Who won?

  • damn... that one wild 272... Pretty cool for a very small smallblock, when everybody is running big cubes ;)

    Thumbs up

  • Holy Shit! That baby is screamin it's heads off. Sound Awesome!

  • jeez. that thing was screaming. 10,400 rpm. great sounding motor.

  • That is the best sounding engine I have ever heard!! Super cool.

  • Nascar doesnt run 11,500 or 12k rpm, make is 9,100 on the limiter :P thats just backfire what you see coming from their exhause, excess fuel that runs into the pipes when they get off the gas then get back on and it burns off

  • a 272?! damn

  • That's looks like a hell of a lot of fun!!

  • Besides a top fuel engine on 98% nitro there isn't anything better sounding than a high-winding small block Chevy.

  • Those high revving small blocks with a clutch pedal is why i miss those NHRA pro stock trucks!

  • That's why my family misses Modified Eliminator.

  • If you like this, search Salvo Racing and Jim Warter Racing. Some in-car video w/monster RPM!

  • The best video I have watched all day!!! Hell of a Driver in that one!!!

  • Thats a real mans car , with three pedals on the floor. Nothing gay about that!

  • To shift a car in that position, you have to be the master of the machine with no mercy & not afraid of pain. I race a stick shift car myself & it only drives my fear away when I reach for the sky! Drive em hard & no mercy for the machine folks. Good luck.......

  • you need incredible talent to be able to keep shifting in a postition like that

  • WOW! What RPM did you launch at? Had to be close to 9k or so. Amazing.

  • Oops, just read the full description. 10,400RPM launch?!? That's nuts! It sounds awesome. Cool clutch sparks on launch.

  • Those sparks I beleive is from the rev limiter cutting cylinders, and thats the unburnt fuel igniting from the headers.

  • ya that wasnt clutch sparks but ive seen that too lol....its like on nascars you see the gas igniting a lot also when their up towards 11,500 to 12k rpms!!

  • Like Moparbeech said, that's header flames from the engine sitting on the rev limiter. It cancels the fire to random cylinders but there is still fuel flowing through those dead cylinders. Raw fuel mixes in the header collector and...... :)

Grump, agreed on the high-winding small block - MUSIC!

  • VFT....valve float territory, baby. No AutoZone in THAT engine! CSK? Don't even...

  • Damn I love this video, is that a V6?

  • nope, It's a 272ci small block chevy with Buick heads.

  • thats my dad right their , he dont play when it comes to drag racing , not to mention he builds some pretty sick motors for people

  • Have you guys heard of the High Winding Gear Jammers? They have some nice cars to.

  • Yeah, the High Winding Gear Jammers have been banging gears for a long time. Hope to get down to one of their races over the winter.

  • Fucking Beast!

  • nice video, thanks! nothing like a stick shift drag car.

  • We have alot more video clips on our "umtrnorth" website.

Click to enter chatroom forum and then click on media

you'll find great video clips there. The chat forum also has a huge amount of technical info about properly setting up stick shift cars for street, street/strip and strictly drag race applications. Enjoy !

  • umtr is the best thing to happen to drag racing in years

  • Not many like this anymore. Reminds me of Greg Tabler's "Killer" Camaro and Paul Mercure's "Checkmate" Camaro Modified Production cars from the mid 80's. Nice video, got goose bumps!

  • NIIIIIIIIIICE!!! :-D

  • Gawd dauum! Listen to that motor rev!

  • Got it now! Looks good. Hope to see youns next year. Still iffy. T-10 Regal

  • Great Video Mike! Weres the Duster?

  • type in: stick shift duster
