  • Dammit I love this jam!

  • great song

  • The wolf has survived.

  • I had never heard of Los Lobos. I was a partner in a music store. We served many stars on a regular basis. One of my all time favorites is Billy Gibbons of ZZ Top. He came frequently. Once he came in excited and asked if I had heard the new song by Los Lobos. I said I had heard of them but was not familiar with their music. He played "Will the Wolf Survive." I can see him sitting on an amp doing it. I went out before the day was over and got the album. Great band. Viva East LA.

  • Great! Hey! Thanks for the posting! Muchos gracious! Love!

very few people have the talent this man has

  • Amazing sound and his voice is still top notch. Nice find.

    Thanks for posting.

  • "This is the big rock part" LOL

  • ! Sobrevivirse!

  • Sam..........wow!! So well said!

  • David Hidalgo is a true musical genius. We are very fortunate to have been able to enjoy his considerable song writing and performing skills. We will not likely see the likes of him again anytime soon. "Yo no habla Espanola, pero entendo un poco cito! Muchas Gracis, Senor!!"

  • David calls this guitar a Hidalguera. Quote by David from Vintage Guitar Magazine: "I gave Candelas an old Alvarez concert-size guitar I had, with the idea of putting mandolin tuners on it. I tried different tunings, but most of the time it's like the top four strings of a guitar, like Nashville tuning: the G strings are octaves; the D is an octave up; and the top two strings are unisons. It's like a double tenor guitar. I put one together with nylon strings, too." Candelas Guitars is in LA.

  • david, la guitarra y el acordeón

david, la voz y el corazón

    los lobos sobreviven nomás

    gracias!

  • no te moris nunca best guitar ever wolves will survive alltogether, thank u

  • trademark song. masterpeace. seems like open g tuning. at first this song reminded me of early traffic but los lobos is quite a fine band also. give thanks.

meanwhile ariel massacre of wolves is still happening. amazing how a few ass holes can ruin it for the rest of us palin paleface

  • David playing solo is something I'd love to see.

One of the greatest musicians of my generation.

  • Thanks so much for posting this.

    Indeed one of the greatest.

  • Thanks for putting this up. Thank you!

  • That looks like an eight (?) string guitar, perhaps with the bottom six in conventional tuning with two drone strings on top for David to use as he sees fit. Anyone else notice the eight tuning pegs on the stock?

  • I don't even speak Spanish, but I run the Spanish speaking stations through the channel changer just in case I might see David backing someone up, on guitar, bass, accordian, whatever... I've always been glad when I did.

  • great song

  • Whats the open tuning he is using on this song? anyone?

  • most multi faceted talented person on planet earth

  • such a wonderful voice..it really lends itself to the great music he plays..a ferocious player with the band as well..if you havent seen the Los Lobos performance at Claptons Guitar fest, its well worth seeing on the DVD..thanks for this clip..

  • This is one of my favorite songs of all time.

  • Super Guitarist...

  • Where is the rest of this video?

  • David Hildago is a briliant human being.

  • phenom soulful guitarist, and then there's the voice. always very moving.

  • So true, I've seen LL many times going back 25+years and always been very impressed by his mere presence not to mention his staggering talent.

  • I met david backstage i was 23 years old i made a fool of myself I was so awe==struck I can not beleive I was there, a family member invited me he was so tired ( la bamba tour) he got kinda pssed from my stupid questions I am just so happy that I can say I was there. god bless you all

  • David, you ARE the lobo.

  • First time I hear David on an acoustic. I love the way he uses the open strings. I gotta learn this song!!

  • A cenzontle is a mockingbird - the bird of 400 voices - Nahuatl word. Los Cenzontles is a group from Northern CA that plays Mexican folk music. We will be coming out with a CD collaboration with Dave Hidalgo very soon. Cool stuff.

  • Los Cenzontles was featured on Papa's Dream by LL and the late, great Lalo Guerrero. Thanks for posting these wonderful DH videos - I was fortunate to see him and Louie Perez at Yoshi's. WHAT A NIGHT!!! WHAT great musicians and people!

I look forward to anything DH does and especially to the next recording with Los Cenzontles.

  • Come check out Dave with our group Los Cenzontles at Yoshis on Nov. 12.

  • A beautiful version of a classic song. Going to see Los Lobos next week.

Like Dirk I'm really curious as to what the guitar tuning is on this song? Anyone know?

  • How to convey passion without overdoing it. He has such a dignified Mexican face too. Something exemplified in the song.

I wonder what guitar tuning he's using?

  • i understand waylon jennings covered this. i have the heart of a wolf, also.

  • 5 estrellas. Go David!

  • absolutetly beautiful sound

  • Brings a tear to my eye...awesome!

  • Me too.
