the 300's only passed mk3s after 1990. but dont get me wrong. supras werent much of a drifter type car. drifters like 240s cause they are so light, being 2700lbs. supras on the other hand are 3400lbs. but then again im only talking about stock cars. anything really has potential to beat anything. its just a matter of what you can imagine and how much you want to put in.
mk3's are not that bad. they are just old. most of them may need a little bit of work but whats the fun of having a car like that without working on it. i think they are very durable cars. plus the have huge potential. i mean where else can you find a 20 year old car, as the newest mk3, and have it compete with newer sports car and keep up. no 240sx can keep up stock for stock. and 300zx's for the same year, stock turbo only has about 200hp not much more. thats the same as a mk3 non turbo.
@Hazikify But not just anyone can slide with an open diff. Takes quite a bit of practice to get that one right, and even then, switching to a locker of some sort (cLSD, vLSD, welded, etc) is going to be another learning experience. Rain brings the threshold of traction way down, and not just for the rear tires...you can get epic with some 4-wheel drifts if it's wet, and it's really good practice for attempting it in the dry.
It's all about practice. Keep it sideways, brotha.
i bet the guy at the end was trying to drift too but ended up spinning out and the other guy came around the corner before he could get out of the way.....
it limits the slip difference from your left to right wheel, basically a non-lsd differential will allow each wheel to spin relatively separate of one another, an lsd depending on the type and ratio will only allow a certain speed difference.
Not an easy car to slide, especially with stock wheels and suspension but nice job though. BTW: The N/A really did have the lsd option, my 87 had it and when I put in the turbo stuff I used both the lsd from the N/A car and the turbo car. Goes a little faster with the N/A one (0 to 60) but sucks going down the highway :)
awesome... i have a 91 twinturboR with a hks to4r and 2jzgte bottom end with 1jzgte head known as a 1.5jzgte microtech ltx12 etc etc etc 531rwhp on 20psi does mad drifts but scares me at times i must get a video cam so i can post!!!keep it up
I usually mountain drift, but I'll try a roundabout for fun. It is a little hard to get the right throttle control on a turbo model, thus causing the car to act all bitchy espcially in high RPMs. It took me a while to get the timing down. My engine is a 7M-GTE. Yours is a 7M-GE right?
That's right, 7M-GE. Supra's are so heavy that only on high RPM's you really feel this engine is leaping the car forward! LOL For now it is more than enough for me to have fun, I'd like to stiffen and lower it just a bit and fit an LSD but don't have the money for it.
Mountain Drifting completely terrfies me, I admire you for doing it, I can only do grip-driving on my local pass.
Just let me give you an advice when you go on a roundabout, (most likely useless advice since you probably already know this) if you feel that you're going to spin out, don't brake, at this point the nose of you car is still pointing to the inside of the roundabout and braking will cause it to move forward and go over it. Instead hammer the gas pedal and the car will continue the spin and do a 180º turn, when the nose clears the inside of the roundabout then you can brake freely to stop it.
I have never crashed my Supra because I use this "Technique".
Have fun, and it would be great if you taped it and post it up. Specially on the touge! If you do that, please send me the link, I'd really like to see it, thanks.
PS: Sorry for the triple-reply, stupid Youtube post limit...
Yep, the very first ones. It's a non-turbo and non-LSD model, if you have a turbo then it is more likely to have an LSD, thus it will be easier for you to control the slide. On the other hand people say that it's harder to give correct throttle on a turbo because power delivery isn't as smooth as N/A cars.
Sorry for the spam up top...for some reason, Youtube wont post anything right for me, but the posts were concering the Thunderbird or whatever, and then idiot braggin about his 240sx Hotwheel. Sorry for the spam
An A86 is a better drifter stock to stock with or without light mods. Now if you put a 4cyl into a supra from a car with trans that can't hold more then 250hp and don't weight anything, it might do a little better then the 640lb 7M-GTE with trans for drifting.
my 240 is completely stock, no lsd, no turbo and I've placed in the top 8 in Formula Drift events. Dont be proud of this at all. You need to learn 2 things, controll the car, make adjustments. Not kick it sideways and let the car do all the work.
Thanks, I'm just trying to have fun with my car, I'm not really interested in being the best or win drfit events. I'll learn more with time and practice.
It's all about having fun man, fuck these people bragging about their shitty 240's. He's just jealous cause mommy wouldn't shovel out the extra $2k to buy an Mk3.
hahaha thats cute... really that is. Maybe once you buy your own car like I've had to do. THEN maybe THEN you can try to pull that shit with me. Until then go ask your parents if they'll drive you to the mall.
Sure I didnt. 240sx is a piece of shit huh? Thats why over 80% of drifters use them... cuz they are pieces of shit right? If you can honestly give me a legit reason they are a piece of shit, then I might see where your opinion comes from. But if its some retarded claim "they aren't turbo" or "not fast from factory" then you dont deserve to be anywhere near a car because your just a toolbag who wants all the work done for you and not get your hands dirty.
I love how all i know is computer... can you tell me the proper caster, camber and toe setup for any S13 or S14 chassis with basic SR swap? Or do you even know what those are? Can you tell me the correct math as to how you figure out the correct brake balance on a car weighing 2683 lbs with a 50/50 weight bias?
dude you're kinda weird... you're braggin about an s13 in your comments on a video with a guy drifting his Mkiii. i drive a Mkiii, and this is damn good drifting. yours is a "stock mkiii turbo", right? yeah the car in this video looks stock too. i don't really think he was goin for the D1 GP, but instead just screwin around.

At least it's nice to see that people trust enough to place their cars there. =)
