She has dwarfism. It came up by chance, just like in humans. She wasn't intentionally bred this way, and her owners are not going to breed her.

It's a shame breeders are deliberately picking the dwarf gene in miniatures, it's an early death sentence :(

If you have read anything on this horse, the owners breed miniatures, this horse happened to get the dwarf gene, and while she can get pregnant they don't want complications, and oh yeah, they think it would be cruel to breed horses with the dwarf gene. So please don't assume something based on a short news blurb on youtube.

I completely Agree with you BornAttacker , even if she was out in the wild , at her size imagine what damages can be cause towards her .. she cant defend herself like the other horses , just because of her size ; atleast this way we know shes safe , well fed , and she gets all the attention she needs .

While dwarfism does create health problems, the longest lived horse on record was a miniature horse affected by dwarfism, so those problems are clearly not a guarantee for a short life.
