  • I AM DANCING IN THE KATHAK POTION & I FEEL SO PROUD !

  • What is the song name of the bharatanatyam piece?

  • What about Sattriya and Kathakali?

  • @MZLTMBCJMN Kathakali is a Classical form of theatre not Dance to be exact. :)

  • @ranaparwandra I also feel the same way, but the fact that Sangeet Natak Akademy has always conferred the ' Classical Dance' status to the art form is what leaves me baffled. Kindly check the Wikipedia article on 'Indian Classical Dance' and on 'Sangeet Natak Akademy', though I would still agree with you that it is classical theatre and not dance.

  • @ranaparwandra I'm still very much confused...Kathakali,though being a sort of theatre...yet it is different from other theatres like yakshgaana..etc.It has been regarded as a Dance-Drama.......but shares a lot to be called as a dance......hope to hear from u guys.....(Kindly guide me if I'm wrong)

  • @MZLTMBCJMN I feel that too...but I think that "Sattriya"(Assam) and "Gaudiya Nritya"(Bang Desha)...have not gained that much popularity.....that's why they were ignored(Which is not proper)....

  • @swomi u surely must me tamil or malayalam cuz u sluts hav habit of prasing only ur southindian things !!! there was none bout maharashtra ?? Y ??

  • @TheBhaumik87 Ur response is quite bad....every state of india has got its own colours...but only 8-10 states have their classical dances...the act was on classical dances of india.....not all dances of india....to be very frank, maharashtra has got no classical dance...but yet has its own beautiful dances like "Laavani"...so any other dances like "bihu"(assam);"Laavaani"(maharashtra),etc. were not included...

  • I'm Mexican, but from now on I'm from India, what a wonderful opening of these games, I really wish I go to India!

  • dear @MrJair321 your most welcome in india .we indians narrate guests as god for us . come and have a look on icredible india

  • That was Truly beautiful & thoroughly enjoyable !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Wash DC, USA

  • Lovely to see all the great dances together <3

  • we colonized them with our might, but they colonized us with their wisdom

  • too all viewers, is there any chances for me to get the music of this dance in mp3 form from any websites ?

im dying to get it for a performance ...

  • very beautiful

I'd say Indians have done the best to preserve your valuable traditions. I wish my country (China) could learn from this. As another great culture in Asia, China has lost lots of traditions.

  • one kind of budda after another, and endless of them, are there something else from the ancient indian's culture?

  • Greece,Egypt, Rome have arisen and fallen,

But there is something, even wisest know not,

Which make India immortal and timeless,

Even though it bears the assaults from all corners of the world.

  • @anu123km I cannot agree more, this is a land (india) like no other. Mark Twain on india - "everything that can ever be done by man or nature has been done in this land"..... What happened here and what continues to happen here will be immortal and timeless, accessible to all eternally!

  • @anu123km Well said. Saare jahaan se achchha Hindostaan hamaraa!!!!

  • Very good concept...thank God India pulled it off.

  • I'm so proud 2 be an Indian..!

  • that was really beautiful...!

  • Before the ceremony, I was a little...afraid of what India was going to do.

But after watching the whole show, I was completely stunned. India has pulled its act together and dazzled the world with such a beautiful display of both dance and music.

    Hats off, no doubt.

I am Indian, and I am proud!

  • THE OPENING CEREMONY HAS SHUT D MOUTH OF D PEOPLE WHO VER PICTURISING NEGATIVE PHOTO OUR INDIA

    HATS OFF...... 2 INDIA

  • I HATE the sound of that commentator's voice harping on and on! It disturbs the flow!

BTW- Anybody else over here who felt 'electric jolts' running through their spine while watching the dance performances?! Love this! This is one of those videos I'll show my grandkids 50 years from now and say 'Dekho bachche, kya shandar khel host kiye the India ne! Wo bhi us purane zmane mein jab India gareeb desh hua karta tha!'. :P

  • @thephilosopherkartik There's other versions available on YouTube without audio commentary from Australian broadcasters!. I watched the BBC version which has minimal commentary- just do another search.

  • @thephilosopherkartik Hehehehe!

  • tremendous work , best opening ceremony ever!

  • tremendous work , best opening ceremony ever! you made us proud.

  • Despite all the complaints from the West, delays due to floods, dengue and security fears - Delhi Venues are beautiful - Athletes Villages is best ever, better than that in Beijing - Games went without a any problem - Indian Security has become a model for the whole world

Stop double standards and Indi bashing.

  • only one word......................WOW!!!!!!!!!

  • every one should be proud of india after watching the ceremony

  • This is just the thing we need to keep the cynical media's mouths shut. Great Show India!

@ sowmi16390 although Bharathnatyam is an important dance in India, it is not the national dance of India

  • You can actually 'see' Kerala's landscape in Mohiniyattam. Their graceful swaying body movements really remind me of palm trees swaying in the wind and waves lapping at the shore!
