I am so glad DADT is now repealed. Its a stupid ban in the first place. There is no proof that allowing gays to serve openly will damage the military. Israel allows gays to serve openly in their military and you don't want to mess with them and other nations that do allow gays to serve openly reported that it does not effect their defence force at all. @quarterexchange Just b/c a few militaries of certain countries don't allow women to fight in combat b/c of negative effects doesn't mean that gays will completely destroy unit cohesion in the US army. There are other countries (like Canada/Sweden) who allow women to serve & not lose functionality.

DADT isn't fair? Last time I checked, make that, oh, today, life isn't fair and the military is less so. Military service isn't a right, it's a privilege. DADT basically says that homosexual can serve unless and until they become a problem. The homosexuals that treat sex like 99% of people do wont have a problem, because for them, it's a choice, not a banner.
There is no evidence that suggests gays diminish the functionality of the military. The British had a similar policy & repealed it. Guess what happened to their military... they function EXACTLY the SAME. Gays already come out to close friends in their units & these friends usually protect them. So why protect the bigots if there is an overwhelming number of soldiers PROTECTING gays from these policies? What makes the bigots so goddamn special that they can have a policy based on 0 evidence?

Let soldiers decide who they want living, showering and fighting with, it shouldnt be for people who are unwilling to fight for their country to decide. And if dadt is repealed then they should also have unisex bathrooms, shared male/female bathrooms and sleeping quaters. If a gay male can shower and sleep with the sex of his choice then so should a straight male

Personally, I'm a gay teenager, and can handle walking my school hallways hearing derogatory words or phrases directed at me due to other peoples' ignorance, but when our own government acknowledges and accepts it, that is when I am truly bothered.
This is so messed up. It's infurriating that so many men and women are discharged for who they are. The government/ Military should not force them to hide their true identities and force them to say "I am not gay".
I don't think ending DADT is a good idea. I predict that if they do, they will still have some sort of restrictions on open behaviour of the homosexual persuasion. The military will probably make restrictions on public displays of affection more stringent on everyone. I think a good compromise would be to keep DADT, BUT eliminate any ability to penalize a military person for being gay. The changes probably will not be fully what the homosexual activists are looking for.
Seeing this makes me ANGRY! DADT is unfair. Soldiers should be more concerned about getting a bullet in their @ss then worrying about someone's sexuality. As long as an individual is willing to serve for their country, why should this even matter?
If you think "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" happens in any millitary unit, try an average Latino Family home. The DADT policy applies there as well for religious reason, but mainly and mostly about machismo with also the risk of being kicked out of the house just for being gay.

I started hating gays and wishing they would all die because i was assaulted by one who came on to me, i was also an Atheist during this. then i started to study science and god and my best friend for years came out to me, i stopped hating gays and then went through a whole "i think i'm gay phase" i decided i wasnt and realized many go through this, some may choose to accept it others may not. Sad that you were assaulted by a gay man. It happens in prisons and in other similar situations yet the vast majority in these cases are heterosexual men. There are some men who question their orientation. Not all that uncommon. There are far more who are gay from birth onward. In other words (just like heterosexual orientation) an orientation toward the same sex is more often than not, a lifelong and solid orientation.

Good: The military will make effeminate gay men more masculine, which is a good thing. Hate crimes would plummet if gay men acted more Rock Hudson then Perez Hilton.
Bad: ironic that it was repealed by a bunch of libs who hate the military and wouldn't serve in a million years no matter if we had ten 9/11 attacks.

Check out "Lance Corporal James Wharton," "James Wharton" and "James Wharton at Devizes School." He is a good example of the type of soldier that we, too, will have serving openly in our forces with the repeal of DADT.

Guess what happened to their military... they function EXACTLY the SAME. Gays already come out to close friends in their units & these friends usually protect them. I don't know why the military separates the sexes other than the potential of a woman serving their country being rendered unable to serve due to pregnancy. For obvious reasons, such potential liability wouldn't exists between two homosexual persons. However, I don't care how the military separates by sex, or sexual orientation, so long as every able individual can serve.

Let soldiers decide who they want living, showering and fighting with, it shouldnt be for people who are unwilling to fight for their country to decide. And if dadt is repealed then they should also have unisex bathrooms, shared male/female bathrooms and sleeping quaters. If a gay male can shower and sleep with the sex of his choice then so should a straight male

Don't ask Don't tell should continue because if it ends, a troop will say he is gay and will cause discrimination, which will be bad for the person who is gay and bad for the other troops that will "keep a distance" from the gay person, It's not about job or anything, its about discrimination.

Not to mention, homosexuals entering the military already face such adversity in civilian society, and I'm guessing would be willing to continue facing that adversity within the ranks for the opportunity to give back to a country that would fight for their rights.

Personally, I'm a gay teenager, and can handle walking my school hallways hearing derogatory words or phrases directed at me due to other peoples' ignorance, but when our own government acknowledges and accepts it, that is when I am truly bothered.

I don't think ending DADT is a good idea. I predict that if they do, they will still have some sort of restrictions on open behaviour of the homosexual persuasion. The military will probably make restrictions on public displays of affection more stringent on everyone. I think a good compromise would be to keep DADT, BUT eliminate any ability to penalize a military person for being gay. The changes probably will not be fully what the homosexual activists are looking for.

Seeing this makes me ANGRY! DADT is unfair. Soldiers should be more concerned about getting a bullet in their @ss then worrying about someone's sexuality. As long as an individual is willing to serve for their country, why should this even matter?

If you think "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" happens in any millitary unit, try an average Latino Family home. The DADT policy applies there as well for religious reason, but mainly and mostly about machismo with also the risk of being kicked out of the house just for being gay.

Also you've read it in some modern translations of the Bible as homophobic theologians have taken the words of Paul and incorrectly translated the words "arsenokoitai" & "malakoi" as homosexuality & homosexual. ...and there you have it, what it always boils down to. You believe homosexuality is a choice - not only that, you think of it as a sexual act. Any sane gay person or psychologist will tell you, however, that it has all the same characteristics of heterosexuality, just with one person being of a different gender. I'm not sure I can describe to you how messed up it is to try and change or manipulate perfectly healthy feelings of love and attraction...or to try and conceal your emotions.

Homosexuality is not a choice, its a preference brought on by a string of environmental upbringing, it is a sexual act, this is why the why they call it your SEXUAL orientation.
And yes it is bad to change someone sexual orientation is can caught psychological damage but it is very possible. And you can easily conceal your emotions, though its not good to do so for long periods of time but it can be possible.

i'll give yall a little insight.
I started hating gays and wishing they would all die because i was assaulted by one who came on to me, i was also an Atheist during this. then i started to study science and god and my best friend for years came out to me, i stopped hating gays and then went through a whole "i think i'm gay phase" i decided i wasnt and realized many go through this, some may choose to accept it others may not. Now i'm a Christian who tries not to hate any group.

Sad that you were assaulted by a gay man. It happens in prisons and in other similar situations yet the vast majority in these cases are heterosexual men. There are some men who question their orientation. Not all that uncommon. There are far more who are gay from birth onward. In other words (just like heterosexual orientation) an orientation toward the same sex is more often than not, a lifelong and solid orientation.

Even if there are environmental factors, that doesn't mean that gay people choose to be gay.
Furthermore, there is nothing wrong with being gay. The assumption that gay = bad has sprung up from a human fear of the different, a fear easy to trace in religion in general for hundreds and hundreds of years.
Just because it's different from normal doesn't make it wrong. Please don't discriminate.

Dont try to use religion as a scapegoat, i get tired when people try to use scapegoats, this isnt religions fault, religion teaches love and kindness, this is people who just don't like what they see.

Bearrick you need to think very seriously about how you would respond if society and religion taught you that your heterosexuality was a sin and that you didn't choose to be straight but you can choose to stay that way or to change. Gays have been oppressed and murdered throughout history simply for the fact that they were gay. We're talking thousands of years. Do you know how many generations of people that is? In some places, they still kill you for being gay, and it is illegal, like the Middle East. Millions of homosexuals are in heterosexual marriages, lying to everyone, because of what society tells them. People often go through ex-gay therapy and statistics show that it is not very effective. The hate needs to stop.
