One of the first songs i ever tried to play and sing an absolute cracker of a song ,John sadly missed and really underated. Only managed to see him play once and was hooked for life.
What does it matter where he was from? Is it just because everyone want's to claim the beloved John Martyn as 'one of their own'? One things for sure...the late, great, John Martyn is now in the place where we'll all heading.....RIP J.M.
Wasn't aware of this guy. Reminds me of a peppy Tim Buckley. I hope he's the kind that gets better with time . Like a lot already.Peace, Farm out and Gravy.
Not to be picky either but, John Martyn, OBE (11 September 1948 – 29 January 2009), born Iain David McGeachy(Hardly an English name), was a British singer-songwriter and guitarist.
listened to this on my way to glastonbury in 1988 and over x over til i forgot for a while that my sister used to listen to it whilst i was away to remind her of me the crazee traveler,,, love it and the rest,, R.I.P i didnt even know he was gone until today when i was feelin nostalgic xx
The man could sing and play at such a level as to literally transport me out of whatever moment into a better state mentally and physically and spiritually. Sure appreciate all the John Martyn that has been provided here on YT.
@MrJonDole It doesn't matter, John was is and always will be a legend, too big for any one country, too big for the world. God bless him (I preferred him talking in his 'more' native Scots than in his Danny Thompson-esque estuary though)
its the mans music that counts not wether he was english or scottish for fuck sake. johns mentor was hamish imlach a mad mental scottish musician where mr martyn learnt and honed his skills but john had to move to london where it all was happenin and to further his career, if you watch a few of jms interviews he would change his accent to whatever place he was in,scottish english irish ,all accents ive heard jm using...he was a master at that. so it disnae matter where he was born .just enjoy
@g720pzspinrek1 no he wasnt cause i read his boom and it said he was born in glasgow but his mother moved to london and so he would eventually develop an english accent and a glaswegian one and he could interchange them
Not to be picky, but John Martyn's Scottish not English. But I understand what you mean, Nick Drake, Billy Bragg, Richard Thompson, Cat Stevens and Donovan... oops no he's Scottish too!! But the list is long.
@DrSnook my friend, very good guitarist, i´m in a band with, is from that town, and gave me cd´s of his life idols ... john martyn and nick drake ... those cd´s are layin´on my desk right now ... and it´s beyond the words. ... i´m a jazz drummer but this is totally much more better than any american music like dave matthews and all american bluegrass and country ... it has something what american musicans with their supertechnique are missing ...
This song is about the west hill! I walk up it all the time.
