@DrummingAddict88 my guess would be since it is at so much of an angle, you can get more response and a more full sound when it can fluctuate more. Hitting it at the bottom would cut the sound off very quick. You can hear the difference when he plays it at the bottom or at the side.

i love chad because when recording albums, he is a smart drummer.. he doesnt play like a full out beast (even though he can), he plays exactly what is needed for the song, and what he plays is absolutely PERFECT for the tune. unless youre listening to him from a strictly techinical drumming standpoint, his talent doesnt show as much as it should. but then you watch a live video like this where he gives all hes got. he gives more..and is still perfect for the tune. his improvization is incredible
