  • uhm....am i the only one who thinks that kaoss pad just sounds bad? valiant effort. i havent seen anyone using it where i was like....wow...but eh i'll keep looking

  • Im getting really fucked off with everyone posting wrong comments on what kaoss pad jonny greenwood is using, look kp1 kaoss pad 1999, kp2 kaoss pad 2002 and kp3 kaoss pad around 2006 so by the date of this video its pretty obvious which model kaoss pad jonny's using. All kaoss pads are pretty destinctive so its not rocket science just google them all then you'll get your answer and by the way the pitch shifting is a didgitech whammy pedal plugged into the KP1. Jonny=vocals, ED=delay on Rhodes.

  • I love that thom goes to the crowd, and radioheads crowds are cool enough to just smile at him and not try to rape him.

  • by about 4 minutes in Thom wanted to punch Jonny

  • @TonyHarrisson you're a fucking retard. TY is shaking his head in disbelief that in this moment, with this crowd, this band and these drugs.......Jonny's the only one potent enough to break through his tolerance.

  • Sick performance.

  • wait. he's using the KP3, which came out in 2006....and this says its 2001 ?!

  • @egg1111115 its a kp1 it came out in 1999.

  • Dude! i fuckin love this!

  • ever heard so many bum vocal notes ?

  • Comment removed

  • That's the greatest Radiohead performance i've ever seen <3333333

  • This song clearly has the capability to take the listener into another universe - or perhaps several.

  • jonny's hair has like, never looked dated.

  • does anyone else see the other guy triggering the DL-4 Loop Sampler?

  • Lol - why are people arguing over which generation Kaoss Pad it is... this gig was done in 2001, so a slight give-away considering the KP2 & 3 release dates!!

  • its kp1..

  • 3:52 "I miss her"

  • @simvegshu

    "I miss her, please call"

  • best song on the album!

  • @saladlegs Second best is " The National Anthem "

  • no that is the kp2

  • No, sir. Look again, KP1.

  • lingerlonger82 is right,its the kp1

  • Shit. I hate this feeling when I think of something new and then I discover someone did it before. Some time ago I had an idea of adding the Kaoss Pad to a guitar. And yesterday I saw Bellamy's signature guitar with onboard Kaoss, and now I see Greenwood using it. Shit.

  • Yeah i thought i had thought of it a couple of weeks ago too hahahah thought it was incredibly creative

  • Same here, a few years ago I was thinking about adding kaoss pad to my guitar, and I discovered Bellamy did it before me.

    I know this feeling.

    Too late...

  • @alkatrans please, Bellamy didn´t think of it before you did. Jonny Greenwood did.

  • @kaligula11 dude dont feel bad just becasue someone else did it it doesnt mean its gonna sound the same. go ahead and try out the guitar with the kaoss pad it should be good =)

  • @kaligula11 There's no completely original ideas. People build off the past. Just do it the way you would do it, that's originality.

  • @kenziegunn wise thinking.

@eazzy93 dont speak like Muse is a Radiohead copycat, because their not. they had many original ideas and jonny didnt used it like matt, he used it like a DJ would use it, the purpose for what it was invented. matt used it in a guitar context.

  • @unclesamfatg Grande azia, meu puto.

  • @eazzy93 Faci comentarii cam imature. Vezi ca si eu pot sa scriu si tu sa nu intelegi o iota din ce spun!

  • @unclesamfatg Vê-se mesmo que não percebes de música; assim que tiveres 8 anos de teoria de músic como eu, vem falar ;)

  • @kaligula11 What is a Kaoss Pad ? Btw, Muse will use anything Radiohead has previously used

  • @kaligula11 he's using it on thom's vox, not le guitar. That's what jonny uses to retrigger the vox and fux with the pitch and direction and whatnot..

  • @kaligula11 But if you've had good ideas before, you can do it again.

  • thats because you're fucking deaf asshole :)

  • His voice doesn't suck live :P

Everything in it's right place is the last song of the night, he is tired and his voice gets a little harsh.

They haven't release stuff for five years until In Rainbows came out..Now we're all sick and tired of In Rainbows. It's been two years since it was released, and it doesn't look like they're releasing anything else anytime soon. That's why you're sick of them.

They are still some of the best musicians alive, though. Nobody comes close to them, musically.

  • I can't believe how much I loved them when this album came out, yet now they seem like one of the most annoying bands to me. Funny how things change over time. :-\

  • wanna die? ¬¬

  • What mode is he usin in the KP!?? Some could answer this xD?

    TNX!!

  • Yeah, it's the old KP, not the one with lights and that.

  • it is a kp1

and it does have orange backlights

  • crucialhunter,

i forget what the actual program name is, but he uses the one where the y axis plays the sample forwards to bacwards and the x axis controls the delay.

at least thats the program my guitarist uses when we cover this song. theres a point where when play "there are two colours" bacwards it sounds like "i miss her".

    jonny is a witch.

  • can you please find out the name of that programme,i just orderd my kp3 today,im sure it could come in handy, lol

  • on the kp2 it's program 95

  • on the KP3 it looks like the most similar effect is called SMP.5, "Sample forward/reverse & Delay"

  • every 1 who says that radiohead are shit can fuk off!!!!!........there the best band ever!

  • lol at ed with the shaker...

  • haha i mean phill... call myself a radiohead fan?!

talking of ed... what is he controlling with his guitar pedals??

  • It's a Korg Kaoss Pad... Sound synthesizer.

  • oh!

i fucking love Kaoss pads.. wish I had one :D

  • I'm getting a Kaossilator for Christmas woot.

  • I want the Kaoss Pad Kaossilator combo. That would complete my life.

  • i feel smart when i listen to radiohead - thats why dumb shits don't understand them, because theyre different. Thom has a difficult voice, that can be fustrating, but, ultimately, it's godlike!

P.s. i'm gonna get a kaoss pad and try and do this!

  • O Well Yeah Matthew Bellamy put it in his manson, great idea yeah but sometimes its just random shit compared to this video buddy I guess you watched SupermassiveBlack Hole at Wembley Stadium, I just want to inform you that Radiohead were using the Kaoss before Muse and I think what Johnny is doing with is much more complex and calculated, Im still a Museradiohead fan though...

  • hijueputa!!! lo mas increible que he visto en mi vida... radiohead is the shit!!!

  • is this song in Vanilla Sky at the beginning of the film??

  • yes it is

  • Legendaria presentación!

  • Comment removed

  • lol big words.

  • Comment removed

  • здорово! Но всё равно radiohead хороши именно в студийных условиях, но эта запись приближена к этим условиям

  • I WISH I COULD BE IN THE AUDIENCE

  • :]!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • kickass song, this is the first radiohead song i have ever heard that isnt like "a single" ya know. the first song i heard was karma police, but this song kicks ass. im starting to get into radiohead now.

  • Colin is gettin' down with that lemon, lol.

  • Radiohead ad Roskilde festivael 2008 :D

  • It's pretty cool how, at the very end, Jonny uses the whammy pedal with the loop of Thom's voice, quickly flicking between the different pitches. I love radiohead.

  • can anybody tell me what this pad is all about. I've only seen radiohead using it and it does some great things!

  • Apparently it's an finger-controlled effect generator. Initially created for DJ's nut used by some musicians too (just kiddin' :o)

  • Has amazing effects and as you can see paired with ingenuity of radiohead who used it on their vocals it can render some cool effects. If you listen to the album version of this song. The vocals that sound like gibberish at the beginning are rendered by using the kaoss pad.

  • Is Thom playing a Fender Rhodes? I'm 100% sure he is. God damn Radiohead is rich, they can get whatever they want..kaoss pad and whatnot :)

    Love all 5 of them.

  • Purely coincidentally I got a Rhodes for $450 and a Kaoss Pad for $300. Doesn't make me sound one damn bit like radiohead tho' ;-)

  • Upload a video of you singing/playing Everything In It's Right Place, and try to get a friend to use the kaoss pad! That would be so cool.

  • lol. If by 'cool' you mean 'agonizingly painful to witness', sure!

  • Kaos Pad + whiney Yorke voice = cool sounds

  • Awesome. Simply awesome.

  • "Art"

  • MARAVILHOSO!

  • Logically, as any human being with an IQ above 60, can figure out that Thom's mic is plugged into ed's pedals, then the kaoss pad is plugged into ed's pedals too. Near the end, Ed is mesing around with the p'ed'als and making Thom's vocals have a very high pitch. Isn't it bloody obvious? Like, okay I understand if you're not a musician and this shit would be more complicated for you to figure out, but come on, you could have figured part of it out.

  • Actually, Thom's mic is not plugged into Ed's pedals, its been plugged into Jonny's effect pedals and Kaos Pad. Ed keeps track of the rhodes piano which he manipulates, though I think Jonny's sound might go through some of Ed's effects aswell, before leaving out of the amps. And its Jonny who uses his Whammy to pitch Thom's voice, not Ed.

  • This is my go at how the vocals work in the song.

Thom's vocals are plugged into a loop station of some sort first --> digitech whammy --> DI box --> Kaoss Pad

haha the irony radiohead420dj "Logically, as any human being with an IQ above 60, can figure out that Thom's mic is plugged into ed's pedals, " brilliant :)

  • no. no.

his vocals are plugged into the kaoss pad as an effect send + return. which is why his vocals come through the PA unaffected in the background.

the kaoss samples his voice in real time and jonny alters it from there. towards the end of the song, he turns the whammy on, acting as an additional post effect chain AFTER the kaoss.

there is no DI involved, nor is there any other looping hardware being used.

    i use one.

  • What precisely is Ed doing then?

  • operating additional post-chains.

the signal that jonny makes sends to ed. ed has phasers, flangers, etc that continue to alter the backing vocals.

  • That makes sense.

  • right.

  • they are like a little team

all working on one part of the song

  • yeah, it's called a band

  • no 3 guys are working on the vocals

thats wat i meant smart ass

  • Yeah, it's called a band...

  • ok then smart ass

  • i was just saying how i thought it was cool that jonny and ed were both working on thoms voice

now dont respond saying "ya its called a band"

    cuz thats really gay

  • Playing with a Korg Kaoss pad. It captures samples coming in from a feed (in this case, vocals) and then manipulates and loops them on-the-fly.

  • How do you set that up?

I'm trying to learn how to do live vocal sampling but it just cuts out the live feed when trying to play back the samples.

  • this might be dumb, and unrelated.. but would a loop pedal solve this? you could do it live that way, im pretty sure

  • My IQ is still above 60. And your theory is wrong too. Brilliant :)

  • Wheres ed?

  • ed is messing with his p'ed'als, obviously. i read somewhere that on some songs everything, including thom's vocals runs through ed's pedals. so, um, yeah.

  • how is it obvious where ed is!

anyway, jonny is running his vocals though the kaoss pad...

  • "how is it obvious where ed is!"

    uhh...because they showed him?...

'anyway, jonny is running his vocals though the kaoss pad..."

it can run through both jonny's kaoss pad and ed's pedals at the same time, you know.

  • pocos saben cuan maestro es jonny greenwood

  • love that the maraca thing is a lemon

  • I would have loved to be in that first row he was so close to them.

  • that was wild. i am always blown away by selway - it would be hard to keep that pattern up for so long

  • Anybody else notice how Jonny got it to sound like Thom had said, "I miss her"?

  • Yes, I noticed it right away. A very nice touch. I think it's part of the phrase "there are two colours in my head" played backwards that sounds like "I miss her". Isn't it something?

  • It's amazing. It's really cool that he was able to do that. Really works well with the feeling of the song.

  • Yes tehpew, I realised that too xD.

  • lol I love how in every live performance of "everything in its right place", after the band starts to kinda jam, Thom walks around hyping up the croud.

  • now this is a band that cares about their music. their hard work payed off

  • Beautiful harmony at the end.

  • I am so getting one of those.

  • its all opinion, i think its brilliant because not only does he use the kp on a voice as opposed to an instrument, he does it in a way thats actually in rhythm with the song, using a delay/sampler effect, and as the lead instrument in the song. other people can go crazy with it just fine, and its filter effects are ace, but this is truly creative.

  • I would probably be calling this video crap too...

if I was a 13 year old who listened to Nickleback

"If the songs were well written...". What a load of bollocks

    ahahah

  • hahaha, if somebody said that to my i'd laugh in their face, ridiculous

  • Brillante

  • radiohead can blow muse out of the water dude

  • lmfao @ Radiohead420DJ ... dude ... i think you need a few sedatives otherwise i don't think you'll live to see 20

  • wow that last guy is a fucking moron, what the fuck are you watching this video for then you dumb fuck? to bad your unable to enjoy this band, i actually feel bad for you. radiohead is fantastic maybe you should work on getting better taste in music.

  • I was looking fdor videos of kaoss pad usage and this came up so i was interested to see if they could actually do something decent with it and i'm afraid they couldn't

  • Muse fan? fuck off.

  • They couldn't? Are you fucking joking me? Are you some sort of fucking mentally deficient person? Is there something wrong with your brain? If there is, don't cease taking your medication. Talk to your doctor, tell him to give you a higher dosage. Maybe you should consider suicide?

  • They couldn't because why? He didn't do anything insane with it? The fact that he could use it subtly and not overuse it in the song is outstanding considering when most people get their hands on effects they go ape-shit with them.

  • if this is crap, tell me what is good an I will listen to it.

  • Brilliant performance...

Thom hasnt had an easy life, thats for sure.

And they really aint a smash hit pop group.

I always wondered how they became popular.

  • Do not spam Radiohead videos, man.

    WHAT ARE YOU THINKING?

Thom makes the rules around here, bastard.

  • lol you loser

  • What an FX rig! Love the KP as well. I wish I could find a video of the performance on the I Might Be Wrong CD. Even more weird noises

  • There is a video here from the same concert for ''I Might Be Wrong''. Nice FX usage. Go through my favorites till you find it or look for I Might Be Wrong (perfect audio)

  • jeez not a bad gig in general from what i've seen of it, how to disappear was class.

  • Fokin brilliant!!!

  • STOP CLAPPING DAMNIT!

theres clapping on half of the songs on youtube

  • out of all the radiohead songs this one still stands out to me the most.

  • haha doesnt it just...yeah seen it!! Matt Bellamy has 2 and plays them all the time now. theres some vids on here of them at reading with him playin it, and also some Abbey Road sessions. check them out.

  • i havnt got either myself, but been looking at getting one. KP3 is red and black for a start. just google them. KP3 has more effects supposedly, and the display has red squares but im still after a KP2 to mount in a guitar lol gna be awsumo. looks cooler with all the colours rather than all the red malarky. aesthetic qualities are the focal point for me u see. lol.

  • dont know if u saw it but the company of Manson guitars has a new model with a kp2 in it...

My friend own the kp2. I've been tweakin it for bout 3 hours with the vocoder presets, synth, delay, whatever.. all the features u know! and that's a lovely treasure! I tested all the effects with a roland sp-404. You'd like it I think. i havent tested the kp3 though.. it kinda look like the chest of darth vader.

  • does any one know what model of kaoss pad he's using? also does anyone know what effects theyre using? any info would be appreciated greatly.

  • kp3 and i dont know the effect he's using... sorry

  • well... after looking at it... i dont know! hahah

  • nah mate it's the KP2 and its a synth preset

  • then a sample is taken, as u can notice, and the old delay is bein used

  • synth preset???

    you sure?

  • nope i wrote that before listening!! he's sampled the singing at the start. my bad.

  • haha it's okay! i did an error too, earlier so..

what differences is there betwen the kp2 and kp3...?

  • kp3

  • He uses the KP2. The previous version of the Korg's Kaoss Pad.

  • Actually that's the original Kaoss Pad. The KP2 Kaoss Pad was introduced at the NAMM Show in July, 2002. This was shot in 2001.

  • It's when the main character knows there's a problem, but there are people out there (government) that want you to think everything is in its right place by covering it up. The main character wakes up with a lemon in his mouth, making him scowl, in a dark room with only a light on. The main character cannot talk cuz of the lemon, hence ''what is that you try to say''. The main character is killed, hence ''what was that you tried to say''.

  • i go back and forth between a character sort of like that (being erased) and a scenario in which things are delivered as an announcement and then repeated over and over creating some sort of rhetoric being engrained in ones head

the first line is just soo fucking hilarious though. it puts a smile on my face everytime. its the biggest joke of all.

  • you're totally overanalysing it, man.

i think.. no, i'm pretty darn positive the song's about OK Computer frenzy when Yorke almost went coo-coo, and also about his catatonic moment in Birmingham in 1997 when he couldn't talk and couldn't hear what people were saying although he knew they were speaking to him. then one day he started to feel better. everything in its right place.

  • but in a wider sense of course it can be applied to any situation in your life when things go wrong and you feel like you're loosing it. but after a while things do get better.

  • i'd just like to add, it's one of the more depressing and uplifting songs by radiohead at the same time. this song is what being crazy (or on the verge of "crazy") feels like, when the same thought keeps running through your head over and over and you can't switch off. well, of course there's worse than that. but this is the first stage of "crazy", maybe...i don't know, never been past this stage yet (thankfully)

  • u know its really intersting to hear radiohead's lyrics being deciphered. i think its fucking genius how open ended it can be and to find out where they come from is just as interesting. KID A is a type of record that changes with one i think and grows or shrinks with one. sounds and lyrics both take on different meanings for different ppl

  • Everything In Its Right Place has the most confusing lyrics of any RH song. I give it a somewhat demented meaning...

  • i would love to pick thoms brain about insperations for his songs, whats going through his head
